Zambrano is Officially A Mega Stud (1 Viewer)

Coming into the game he is averaging giving up 1 HR every 4 innings. So look on the bright side, after giving up the HR tonight in the 1st he should be clear until the 5th. :own3d:

As silly as it is to panic about position players in April, it's much much sillier to panic about pitchers this early on unless they have an injury.

So how many starts before I can start panicking? The guy has looked like one of the worst pitchers in the majors this year and the most disturbing thing is he isn't striking out anyone. Perhaps he is injured?

For a crazy guy like Zambrano, I'd wait another few starts. He's clearly overthrowing and letting his emotions get the best of him. He's prone to do that. I think he'll settle down soon. He always does.

Well I won't be starting him anymore until I see at least one respectable start. He's single-handedly costing me WHIP and ERA every single week now. I can't afford to keep hoping that he'll turn it around.

6 Ks through 6 innings tonight.

Yeah this is one of his better games of the year.

I can't wait for him to hit the waiver wire, I will be picking him up in all the leagues I can.
I can't imagine this would happen anytime soon.
1 more bad start and I think you will see some drops.
There is no chance in hell he gets dropped by anyone who has the slightest clue about baseball, be it fantasy or not.
I agree you won't see any drops but one more bad start would equal 4 bad starts. I think there would definitely be reason for concern at that point. Last year I held onto Buehrle waiting and waiting for him to turn things around and it just didn't happen. Maybe there's an injury...maybe it's mental...maybe he's still just shaking off the cobwebs? He is a notoriously slow starter so I hope we can attribute this to that.

Thanks for the information. So my plan to bench Zambrano in his next start is a good one? :goodposting:
Well, is it a regular benching or an official benching?
I will bench him for the month of April (as the data suggests). No in all seriousness, the link you provided does help pacify my concerns. I knew he did poorly in April last year but I didn't realize the difference between April and other months was quite that striking. I really can't justify benching him since I spent a very high draft pick on him. I just hope that this is not related to some injury that we don't know about.

Same thing happened to the boy last year. He'll come around and will be at the top of his game.

Just gave up 4 runs in the first inning. What a waste of a pick......
Looked a little better yesterday but still not great. It's been a disturbing trend where he cruises through 3 or 4 innings and then just butchers 1 or 2 innings. The good thing is they took him out after 5 innings which probably prevented another breakdown. Still waiting for that typical Zambrano start..... :goodposting:

Christ people, he has pitched in 3 games. 3!!!!!!!
:nerd:
Lifetime ERA in the 2's in the month of May for Big Z so what does he do:Gives up 4 earned in the 1st inning!! :hey:
Against the Juggernaut Pirates, he's started off by hitting the first batter and then giving up 2 consecutive doubles and a single. I suppose it's too early to panic though. Once again, the ##### single-handedly costs me whip and era for the week......

So Zambrano retooled his delivery and at this point it looks like he is throwing more over the top, but it seems like he has lost something on his fastball. And one thing he is not doing is closing out hitters when he has 2 strikes on them. :lmao:

Well I had to bench him going against the Mets today so look for a gem....

Looking good through 4 :bye:
Rub it in :lmao: . I start him against the Buccos and Nats and he gets rocked. I bench him against the Mets and he's lights out.

Yeah, he has been OK. He has worked out of a few jams but hasn't been the guy that you thought you drafted in the spring. He hasn't been lights out by any means.

He's been dropped in my league. Is he worth a pickup just in case he decides to start playing like he's worth a damn?

If you're in a league with at least one other player, I'd say yes.
 I can't believe anyone would ever drop him. WTF. :banned:
Call me naive since it's my first year playing, but if I picked him up he'd be my worst starter for ERA and WHIP. Only a marginal improvement in wins and strikeouts too.Current starters: Halladay (DL), Verlander, Lilly, and Capuano

I'm not saying that Zambrano should be dropped but I think we have to temper our expectations for the remainder of the year. One of the most disturbing trends is the number of homeruns he's given up (I believe at least one in ever start) and how few strikeouts he has relative to past years. I like to think that it's just a slow start but we're halfway into May now and he's had 2 solid starts.

 I figured he was worth the gamble and I had the room with Halladay on the DL. He works, he works. If not, ehh no big loss.
