Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (19 Viewers)

Not really. Could be trending because Microsoft completed their purchase of Bethesda.
Speaking of, I just got an email with the “Bethesda Collection” added to Game Pass. A lot of the big names were already there like the Fallout’s so I’m not sure what’s new vs what was already available.

Potentially good news. The last version - with Rory - really sucked.

Tiger Woods to Return to PGA Tour Video-Game Franchise Under Multiyear Deal

Legendary golfer Tiger Woods is stepping back on the virtual links.

Woods inked an exclusive, multiyear deal with Take-Two Interactive’s 2K to appear in the company’s PGA Tour golf video games and also serve as a consultant. It marks Woods’ return to the video game world after an eight-year absence.

News of the pact comes less than a month after Woods was seriously injured in a car accident in Los Angeles, raising questions about his return to the pro-golf circuit.

Woods, in a statement that Take-Two said he made in January 2021 prior to the crash, said: “I am looking forward to making my return to the video game landscape, and with 2K and HB Studios, I’ve found the right partners to make it happen. I’m honored to take part in this opportunity and look forward to sharing my expertise and insights as we build the future of golf video games together.”

In addition to the deal with Woods, 2K announced it reached an agreement to acquire privately held HB Studios Multimedia, developers of PGA Tour 2K21, as well as the Golf Club franchise. The acquisition is expected to close before the end of March. Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

2k21 golf is pretty freaking good. I hope they don't make it too arcadey.  It needs announcer upgrade and more courses.

Funny. I got mine from GameStop a week ago. A buddy that I routinely game with has struck out so far. I managed to actually snag a PS5 on Walmart for him this afternoon and had it one click away from confirming when I checked in with him and he decided to pass because the delivery date from Walmart isn’t until April 13th. We’ll see if that proves to be folly. Kinda crazy though to have a delivery date that far out though.
it came in this past Saturday.  its great

I finally beat Assassin's Creed Valhalla.  Very slow going at first, but loved it as I got deeper and deeper into the game.  Gonna take some down time from Valhalla to play Miles Morales and get ramped up for the Valhalla DLC.

Valhalla is great, but it's buggy as I don't know what.

My wife gave me a Immortals Fenyx rising for Christmas.  May look to get into that here soon.  Love Greek mythology.

I've also got Crash Bandicoot 4 that I've barely touched, and the Mario 3D All-stars game.

I know most of you aren’t first person shooter types, but the new COD zombies is actually quite fun. I quit playing COD a few years ago because the multiplayer became awful and the zombies mode was just impossible for a casual like me.

I loved how difficult zombies used to be and quit playing last COD after they started making it too easy.

Not sure if this belongs here but I am pretty excited about the opportunity to play my steam library on a mobile device. I hate dumping money for games into a mobile platform that will be replaced in a couple of years never to be played again. And "mobile" gaming on phones/tablets is still horrible when you take into account the constant advertising, loading from an online connection, requirements to share contacts/location/etc/etc for what is really a pretty shallow and lackluster version of what a real computer can run.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wINKqvWou5w

I am in no way associated with this product but would love to see it(or at least a competitor) become more mainstream and push the current mobile gaming platforms. I hate the giant bezels which would probably be the first gripe, and wish it had better battery life but at least that can be remedied with an external battery recharger. In any case here is the Indiegogo page if anyone else is as interested in a product like this as I am.....

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/aya-neo-world-s-first-7nm-handheld-gaming-device--2#/

Particularly when traveling for pleasure and I don't really need a laptop I would probably just take this device, a foldable travel keyboard/trackpad combo, and an HDMI cable to attack to the hotel TV. Not saying that this could play bleeding edge PC games but they made some pretty amazing games before 2019 that would run great on a device like this.

Think I FINALLY got a PS5! Comes as bundle through Gamestop ships March 23. Question, can I return the bundled games to Gamestop?
Did you get the Disc based System? If you did you can return the games. Might get better value with them not opened either. I'm sure more then a few people bought a bundle with games they didn't want just to get the system anyway. Not sure of the cats at my local GS now but the old ones if you did something like that the old manager would be like "smart move or sweat good for you man."

Makes me really sad Skyrim will be my last Elder Scrolls. I've been a PS guy as long as I've been gaming. One game will not be enough to persuade me to buy a whole other console.

Skyrim is one of only 2 games in my life I've loved enough to put in the time to Platinum. That and Rocket League.

I can get 3 or maybe 4 games included in a prize I won for a PS5. I’m not into shooter games. Like sports including golf, baseball and football as well as I want a family friendly game that young grandkids can play. Suggestions?

Games you could get Sports wise there's Madden, NHL, NBA 2k, Fifa and PES if they are into Soccer. MLB The Show doesn't come out for another few weeks. Golf and Tennis can be had too. Theres also a few racing games like F1 and NASCAR HEAT.

Was doing so well till I got to King Arthur's right hand man and knight. Need to level up more to beat him now. Was doing so well until then too.

Trying to figure out a good co-op game for my wife and I to play together on iPhone.  We played Clash Royale for a while, but I'm looking for something with slightly more depth (or similar level, but just something new), but if there's too much of a learning curve I don't see it happening.

Some other games she's gotten hooked on for a while: Ultimate Golf and Cooking Dash.

Games I've gotten hooked on in the past: Civilization, Age of Empires.

Trying to figure out something that meets in the middle.  Two upcoming games that seem potentially good: Diablo Immortal and Northgard (iOS version).

Anyone have any suggestions.

I managed to get both a ps5 and an xbox series s at retail price in the last 2 weeks.

I have not owned an xbox since the original, but there are a few games I want to play, but mainly witcher 2.

I agree with most of the other suggestions.  I'll add a few.

Spider Man and Miles Morales (Spider Man 2) are two games that are fun to play and rated Teen.  Violence is minimal in the games.

For the kids (and you) look at the new Ratchet and Clank game.  Also heard good things about Sackboy which is geared at kids but adults enjoy as well.

Any tips for those of us still striking out....
I assume you are using the restock sites that track such stuff?

https://www.techradar.com/news/ps5-restock-date

The Xbox I was only barely trying for, it was pretty easy, however the PS5 was much more difficult. I was in Denver over spring break on a ski trip and both of my brothers and my mom were trying to buy a ps5 on walmart's site last Thursday. We tried every 10 minutes for 2 hours, however I was the only one that managed to purchase one and that one came after trying for an hour and 20 minutes.

One thing I have read is that the bundles from gamestop are your best bet. Also, my brother in Denver discovered he could buy a PS5 in Casper relatively easy through Target's website when they restock early in the morning. However, then you are stuck driving up to get it.

If you have the Twitter app, follow PS5StockAlerts and enable notifications. It will give you the fastest heads up on PS5s in stock I’ve consistently found. Also, make sure you have accounts with all account details and credit card info already setup for the major sites and stay logged in. Not having to enter your data is huge.

And when you get to the site, for some of them it’s about spamming the buy button even if it’s greyed out. I got mine from GameStop because they tend to release in waves. So even if the buy button is greyed out, if they are releasing stock you can keep hammering the button and hit it as soon as it flicks back in stock. I think Best Buy and maybe Walmart are similar.

I’ve got zero desire to play anything. I’ve got game pass. Tried a bunch of games like Sea of Thieves, Dead by Daylight, No Man’s Sky, etc... but just get bored 15 mins in. I tried my old standby of Rainbow 6 Siege but there’s a ton of operators now I never played with so it’s kind of passed me by.

It reminds me of looking through blockbuster at a million different movies and not wanting to watch any of them.

I'm meandering too. I'm playing Dishonored 2 on NG+, which is fun. No rush to get a new gen console.

They need some new ideas / games. Or maybe I need to play different games. I used to like 4x strategy on the computer, but haven't played in 15 years - maybe I should look into that.

I DL’d dishonored, the new Western theme strategy game on there, and something else. I’ll give them a go tomorrow.

I don’t know, there’s more games that I want to play on game pass than I’ll ever have time to play. Especially with the Bethesda acquisition. I guess if you are into one specific area, you could go through the inventory that interests you pretty quickly.

Bought that on a whim during a used game sale at Gamestop. Loved it. Played though it several times. But I am with you on the whole "rut" thing. I have Last of Us II and Outer Planets sitting brand new in the case since Christmas and just can't find any motivation to start them. I just keep going back in to Assassin's Creed: Odyssey and looking for stuff to do. I guess I'm just to lazy to start anything new right now.

But back to Dishonored II, and even AC:O, those were both franchises I had never played before and just decided to try them out based on past reviews. The fact they were so new to me is why i really enjoyed them I think. I think it is easy to fall in to a "MOTS" rut when you keep playing things along the same genre path.

Last of Us II is really, really good.

I have heard a ton of great things about Last Epoch so I gave it a shot this weekend.

For a game that is still in pre-release, it is incredibly polished.  It is miles ahead of where Diablo 3 and POE were at the same pre-release stage.

I highly recommend it for any one who enjoys the ARPG genre.

did you ever play Hades?

Finally played through The Order 1886 after extreme discount a few weeks back. Can't believe they charged $60 for that game at one point lol.

I beat it in 4 nights.....legit only 2-3 hours each of those nights. And from what I've seen, that's longer than the average playthrough.

I enjoyed it though. Imaginative weaponry, incredible character and environment design. Just way too short.

So now I take a couple weeks break before my next journey (yet tbd), and fall back on my 2 old faithfuls: Rocket League and Fall Guys (season 4 with team modes is kick### btw).

We landed a PS5 Disc Version bundle on Costco two weeks ago. Love the console. Playing MLB 20 on it is like playing a new game. True 4K and a true consistent 60 FPS.....holy mother. Incredible.

NG Madden 21 is also a major upgrade in terms of player movement. I am really impressed.

Playing Ghost of Tsushima on the 5 is also a feast for the eyes and senses. Just wow.

I have no new PS5 games. No plans to buy any yet until I see the dev cycle really get going next year.

I want the Mass Effect trilogy remaster.

But simply just playing MLB The Show 20 on the PS5 is an amazing upgrade for me. I pour 1000’s of hours into my franchises on this series and this is simply the best baseball game ever made. The 5 really brings it out. Also MLB 17,18 and 19 play amazingly well on the PS5 in full 4K and 60 FPS.

If your looking for a shooter that's more casual, give Rogue Company a try. It's free and it has the classic CS/R6:S mode or a hybrid TDM/KotH. It has operators like Siege but still early stages with only a few extras in the mix. It is a good time and more casual I would say. Also, whoever does their sound should be hired by the big boys. It is spot on and makes many triple A shooters sound like trash.

Disco Elysium coming to Playstation at the end of the month.  I read someplace else that it's coming to Xbox later this year.

Getting called to supper, but I should write up my thoughts on this game later on.  I haven't gotten very far into yet, but it's certainly something.
I think I'm only about halfway through this game, and I'm not sure that I'll play it more than once, but this is definitely an interesting palate-cleanser when you're looking for something quirky and unusual.  In a nutshell, Disco Elysium is an RPG where you play as a cop who has to work with his partner to solve a murder linked to a labor dispute.  But that oversimplifies the plot to the point of being abjectly misleading.  Your character is a chronic drunk and drug addict who has just woken up from a three-day bender with drug-induced amnesia, and part of the game is figuring out who you are and how you got yourself into a fairly rotten situation.

While you're doing that, you talk to NPCs and explore a (very) small city that used to the capital of a communist superpower but is now governed by something vaguely resembling a cross between the EU and the WTO.  The game is extremely political without being too preachy (it's a little preachy admittedly), and you're free to role-play as a communist, free market enthusiast, liberal technocrat, fascist, racist, or whatever.

I don't believe there's any combat in the game, or at least none that I've encountered so far.  It's all dialog with lots of dice-based skill checks thrown in.  Failing a skill check is no big deal -- it just redirects the story a bit, often in fairly interesting ways, which makes it a nice, low-stress game that you can enjoy when you need a break from more mainstream genres.  This is probably best described as a "point and click" story-based title.

Not sure I would recommend this one for $60 because I'm skeptical of the replay value.  A huge part of the fun is unravelling the story, and while it might be cool to replay the game with a different build and different political choices, I kind of doubt it would be the same.  Still it's a nice title to file away if/when you catch it on sale.

Is there a secret to getting a PS5?  Son is busting a gut to get one, saved up money and everything.  I check Costco, Best Buy, Target, Walmart and Gamestop about 2-3 times a day.

I started playing Red Alert 2 again over the weekend. I can never get the CnCNET to work and would get my ### handed to me if I could.

I love coming back to this when I get bored of iRacing, and can't find a game to play.

This had caught my eye, but no combat at all?  So it’s basically a book, right?  That’s fine, but I find that books to a better job at being a book games generally do.

JB1020 -

The best way to get a PS5 is to join Twitter and follow the accounts that track the releases.  Some of the popular ones are @PS5StockUpdates and @Jake_Randall_YT.  The latter does videos on the tips and tricks for each site.  You have to be fast, so follow them and also have updates on your phone so you are getting immediate notifications.

Outside of that, restocks seems to happening more rapidly/regularly now and prices are slowly coming down from secondary resellers, so I expect by May/June they will be more readily available.

Good luck!

thanks @Turk

One other question I bet you guys can help with.  Same son has a bday coming up and have gotten his grandparents to get him an Occulus.  Should he get the occulus, or have them get the VR set for the ps5?

Unfortunately I know nothing about this stuff.

Good luck man.

About the VR, I don't know much about either but have heard good things about both.  I don't have them, but I do have a PS5.  We will likely get my 12 year old an Occulus for his birthday later this year and when the VR comes out for the PS5 I'll probably want to get it.  I think it is slated for Christmas 2021 maybe. I think Occulus is the industry leader at the moment if I'm not mistaken.

My work vpn blocks everything related to gaming, even small obscure sites, except Twitch. Not sure what the reasoning is there.
