NHL Season Thread: TB wins and Kucherov loves beer (1 Viewer)

Well, then show up in the big game darn it!!

Colorado is still a young team, but they need to add a few veteran players to cement them together.
The depth on defense needs improvement first and foremost. Graves should be a bottom pairing guy, not getting top 4 minutes. Nemeth was bad.

Girard needs to improve. He was playing like a bottom pairing guy. Made way too many mistakes. Was a minus 4 last night.

I feel like I watched the series on a loop. Over and over again, Colorado had control of the puck in their own zone, failed to get it out either due to sloppiness or the Vegas forecheck (or a combo of the two), and Vegas ends up scoring later in the sequence. Very frustrating.

Not having Kadri definitely didn't help. But after watching the abomination of the Rangers defense under AV, I was having bad flashbacks watching Colorado this past series. And Colorado's forwards didn't help the defense either. I don't want to have to rely on my goalie to make extra saves due to my awful play in the defensive zone. Saw it too many times with Lundqvist and the defense over the years. Easy way to turn a great goalie into just a good one and a good one into a mediocre one. And Grubauer isn't Lundqvist. And it can work in reverse as well. COL has the core. Just need the right tweaks.

Vegas has a really good forecheck and they figured out how to neutralize MacKinnon which was impressive. Pietrangelo and Theodore make for a nice one - two on the back end. Reminds me of 19 Blues with Parayko / Pietrangelo except Vegas has a better offense. How an NHL GM made the decision to swap an elite d-man for a small PP specialist to save a few million a year I will never understand. Just stupid.

Tampa is down a goal with a period to go, and they’re playing well, but it looks like they’ll have to go Super to win this game.

Caps haven't won a playoff series since letting Trotz go after winning the Cup three years ago.

Islanders had won like one playoff series in 25 years before Trott arrived, and now have five in the last three years and lead 2-0 on the road in Game 1 of the ECF.

Barry Trotz is the man.

Not thrilled with the result, the Bolts got goalie-d, and the penalties are never good against a good defense, but they’ve lost Game 1 before against Boston and Dallas last year, so I’m not worried. Yet.

They didn’t get goalied, Isles were way better. Bolts had very few dangerous chances.

Was the TB crowd at max capacity for Game 1 yesterday?

Could have sworn I heard a few fans sneeze throughout the broadcast.

Thursday night @ the Coli is gonna be a madhouse.
Cheap seat Tickets for Game 6 went from $600 to $1200 after the Game 1 W.

Lol haven’t won anything in 35 years, consistently in bottom-5 in attendance and now making fun of one quiet crowd. It’s a long series, keep your pants on. Sheesh.

@FriedgeHNIC: A sign the off-season is really revving up as the final four chase the Stanley Cup: Carolina has given Dougie Hamilton permission to talk to other NHL teams. Opens potential for a sign-and-trade.

@charlieo_conn: I do find the player evaluation symmetry when it comes to Dougie Hamilton & Seth Jones to be amusing.

stat people on Dougie: he's obviously elite, come on
hockey men on Dougie: well actually

Haha.  They are a spoiled fan base.  But that place is a church.

Montreal should have just forfeited I guess.
It’s not their fault, it’s nobody’s fault. It just sucks that division got gifted a final four spot. It’s not the end of the world, it’s just one of the last 3 series left and it’s not likely to be any good.

Non- Stanley Cup playoff random thought.

Went down a Link Gaetz rabbit-hole on YouTube this morning for some reason, and the next time the topic of all-time sports records that will never be broken comes up, I'm going with NHL career penalty minutes.

Tiger Williams had 3,971 PIMs.  Of the top 250 players all-time, there are just 2 active players.  Chara, at #56 with 2,000 PIMs, and Joe Thornton at 1,262.

With the way the game is played today, no one will ever come close to surpassing Tiger.  He was an animal.

If Toronto was there I don't think anyone would be complaining so much. Maybe they shouldn't have lost so everyone could enjoy a competitive semi series.

I thought Toronto was a huge fraud all year too but I admit I didn’t expect them to go out that way either.

Not an overreaction. Montreal isn’t on their level. F’n Vegas is -270 to win tomorrow. I mean come on.
of course they aren't.  but the gap isn't that wide, never is in the NHL.  Habs showed they can play with them in the 1st and also Price.  this should get to 6.

That would be cool if it goes 6 and there are some interesting games. Hope it does.
