I've been using FBG for a few years now and the content is second to none. There is just so much info and I'd say the majority is targeted to vets looking for an advantage.

My brother is a huge NFL fan and a degenerate gambler  so logically he wants to get into FFB. He'd be eaten alive in the leagues I play in but he really wants to get involved. He is looking for some type of guide, book, or course on fantasy football to get him ramped up on how it works and the basic strategies to get competitive fast.

Any suggestions?

If he lives in or near NJ I offer one-on-one Fantasy Football tutoring sessions, at $1200 per session, minimum three sessions. Let me know. :lmao:Alternately, why don't you just teach him, or buy him an FBG subscription?

I really don't have the time or patience to try to teach him myself. I've directed him to FBG but wanted to see if there was anything else out there which he may find helpful.

It's pretty simple really.

1. Know your scoring system. If it's you get points per reception, you should consider taking WRs starting in the late 1st/early 2nd round. If it's not, RBs are at a premium and you should get one fast.

2. Unless it's Peyton Manning in the 2nd, don't take a QB until the 5th round or later.

3. Don't take a defense until the 10th round or later.

4. Don't take a kicker until your last pick.

2 rbs before round 3 :goodposting:

Seriously. I'm trying to think of more but can't.Maybe some do's and don'ts:1. Don't come to the draft with a "fantasy football" magazine. Do have a printout from one of any million or so fantasy websites.2. Do know who has gotten injured in camp so you don't draft someone on IR.3. Don't get so drunk that you do break the above rules.4. Don't pick someone already picked. Do pay at least a little attention.

Honestly, just tell him to play in a league this year. He'll suck, but he'll learn quick, and he'll compete next year. He's not going to challenge for the championship this year no matter what you tell him or no matter what he reads, but if he's a big football fan, he'll learn quick, and he'll be set to go for next year.

One tip: After he learns the basics, have him participate in mock drafts online. If possible, have him save the results and spend a few minutes to give him pointers (or humiliate him). Drafting is a science that can only be improved on with practice.

Hi,I'm biased but I think the best beginner guide out there is our huge series on the basics of fantasy football. You can start here. http://footballguys.com/articles/07beginners1.htm

Good luck and have fun.

I must chime in. I'm still a rookie until August 25th. Before August 25,2006, I did not know anything about Fantasy Football, whatsoever. And luckily, I was turned on to this web site, and it is the best web site that I have ever been associated with. I was absolutely wet behind the ears and not knowing it, but after reading you sharks posts and threads day in and day out since I became a member, I have absolutely gained so much knowledge about this hobby/game that it is just unbelievable. I just want to say thank you for all the information that I have read from you sharks/staff. Having said this, I have become a much more knowledgeable fantasy football player. I didn't even know who Brandon Marshall was until Sigmond Bloom was pimping him so much, along with you other staff members. It's great for a newbie like me to enjoy the fruits of someone else's labor. I am not a subscriber, yet, but I will be because this is the best web site on the net about fantasy football. Bottom line, thank you. And for the OP, all I want to tell him is to take heed of my advice and to read, read, read, Footballguys.com, subscriber or not.

Again, I sure appreciate it.

I agree that this is the best approach. Nothing like putting up some real green to help the learning experience. He should join a couple different leagues to see it from more than one perspective. In fact I can recommend a few leagues that I'm in to help him out!!

 Yea, when putting up that greenback,... that'll make that competitive fire come out. I also have a league opening. :censored: Just kiddin'

While not on FBG's site, some fantasy info:

Fantasy University
While I think very highly of David Grey and like some others on there, the concept is Greg Kellogg's "baby" and I recommend using google to try and find that.
yep :D However you have to pay to see it now. The link above is free, so that or FBG's is likely a good place to start.
