Texas Roadhouse -Worse than Applebees? (1 Viewer)

I ate there tonite. I am not really impressed but hey, that's what I get for ordering the special - 11 oz. Sirloin.

I like both. You ordered the wrong thing. Sirloin is the worst cut ever in the history of ever. Texas road house has a nice ribeye.

Oven Roasted Chicken, seasoned rice, and the rolls with cinnamon butter are great! The season rice there might be one of my favorite sides ever.

I loved Roadhouse. Though sometimes they do overspice the ribeye, like they are trying to hide something. It's a ribeye, leave it the #### alone.

I like Roadhouse...used to have a great T-bone.

Applebee's is the most confusing thing to me. Every commercial makes it look and sound so good...then I find myself there at some point and it's the worst food I've ever had consistently. It's mind boggling how bad it is compared to how it looks.

They are both terrible where I live along with Olive Garden. It just depends on the chef. I've been to plenty of places where one place is awesome and the same place sucks the next town over. Same with the service.

The Elephant Bar is the best in that type of restaurant category in my area, but go down to Irvine, and it sucks so bad. I couldn't believe the difference.

It may sound ridiculous, but there is a Golden Correl in Bedford, IN that actually knows how to cook a good steak and has an excellent buffet, while Golden Correls in general suck but. Good management can make a huge difference. That place stays packed.

The best I can say about Applebee's is that it is clean and their salads are OK. I would rather eat at Olive Garden than to eat a steak at Applebee's

From a health standpoint (ie; sodium levels) Applebees is a killer...literally. My mom is on a low sodium diet and when I told her the wife and I were eating some Applebees-To-Go, she told me to check out the nutrition info, particularly their sodium levels... off the charts bad...

http://www.nutrition-charts.com/applebees-nutrition-info/

Appetizer Sampler and Grilled Fajitas are a combined 12000 mg of sodium (6 days worth for those on a restricted or low sodium diet @ 2000mg per day )... crazy. That was the last time I ever ate there and that was 3 years ago.

I tried to find a comparison chart for Texas Roadhouse, but apparently they do not offer nutritional information (http://www.texasroadhouse.com/contact-us#nutritional-information)

Texas Roadhouse is one of the best bargains you will find. It is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>than Applebees.

You can get a good filet, a salad and a potato for under $20. How can you beat that?

Applebees is awful.

.
I've had this same exact experience with national chain restaurants locally. Our local Texas Roadhouse is pretty solid and is a great kid place. Not all locations do the line dancing, apparently (although that might be name confusion -- Roadhouse Grill does/did line dancing, but never seen it at Texas Roadhouse).

I've even has jon_mx's experience of enjoying a decent Golden Corral (not common, though). Chain places and even buffet places don't have to suck out loud ... it's just easier (and probably a lot cheaper) to run them that way.

Applebees sucks. But I went to Texas Roadhouse once. It sucked too and since you pay more it gets a lower rating than the lowly Applebees.

:goodposting:

The food is not of great quality no matter what, but if ran well there are some adequate or better chains. More misses than hits though. Restaurants are only as good as their staffs. Difficult to build a motivated staff at a chain given the working conditions, hours, and pay. Impossible if it's run by poor management.

If you could not taste the saltiness of their food.... you may want to look at how much sodium you intake in a day because you may be desensitized cause the two times I went there and go whatever I got.... all I remember was that I was eating a salt lick and that is WITH the expectation of the food being over salted because it is a chain restaurant.

3 years, you'd be correct. But now that my mom is on a low sodium diet and I cook that way for her and my family, I am very cognizant of sodium and always read labels now...

Hell, my former favorite soda (Diet Dr. Pepper) now tastes salty to me on those rare occasions I drink soda.

I like both restaurants, but they closed the Applebee's near my house, and the nearest Texas roadhouse is at least an hour away. Granted, it helps that I don't go out to eat very often.

Off subject but I view sugar as far more of a "killer" than sodium. I think sodium gets a bad rap.

Eh/ Roadhouse is not expensive at all. I guess if you are grabbing a happy hour drink and cheap appetizer, Applebees might be cheaper, but their food still sucks.

I went to the TRH last night and got the 11 oz sirloin special for 9.99. It was perfectly cook MR and one of the better sirloins I've had (I'm a NY Strip guy). The steak was thick and the portion huge. The Cesar salad was also very good and for my other side I side the grilled Kabob vegetables. Helluva meal for $10.

When i go on nights other than Wed., I really enjoy their catfish, grilled sirloin tips,or their chopped steak. For low carb they have good choices and the prices are fair.

I'm a big fan, but I go to the one Willie Nelson owns and maybe his extensive experience with the munchies has sifted down to the food service.

I remember eating at Applebees with my ex-wife once. the server brought all my food and totally forgot about hers. Wanting to see how long it would take for them to catch the oversight, I ate my dinner while my wife watched. When the check finally arrived, they asked how everything was... mine was ok I told the server; my wife never got hers. Wound up getting my dinner for free and we left without paying a nickel. called Domino's for my wife when we got home.

Exhibit A in the divorce proceedings?

So no food at Crapplebees to a pizza from Domino's? She would have been better off with going hungry

No wonder she is your ex-wife

She's going hungry now that we're divorced and she isn't working.

I travel a lot, and in some cities maybe a Texas Roadhouse is the best you're going to do if you just want some protein. Go with low expectations and you may be pleasantly surprised. I saw the comment about The Elephant Bar. I really think they are the worst, and the fact that they are closing gobs of locations out West is proof how much they suck.

Applebees. So my son got real sick after eating there 15 years ago and I didn't go for 12+ years. I got to my hotel near my corp office one night a few years ago and they were the only place opened. Surprise how packed they were, not just in the bar but people eating full meals at 10:30pm. I've gone a few times since then. Half off wings late night - OK. They also had this sizzling Cajun steak that was not bad.

Bottom line - I avoid all of these places unless it's a last resort. With Yelp etc if you eat bad food these days it's typically because you're lazy. Took my daughter to her doctors appointment yesterday morning, did a quick Yelp lookup and found this phenomenal place a few miles away for breakfast. You can do that, or go to a Denny's or IHOP. They lazy or uniformed go to the poorly operated/conceived chains. Should be last resort.

Nothing is on the table

Her body is not working

She's going hungry (going hungry)

What's funny about that story is that a lot of people will come out of that situation blaming the large entity "Applebee's". Really, that all came down to one person's volition -- the ridiculously inattentive server who should've checked what came out of the kitchen on his ticket. Or else he/she didn't even enter your wife's meal into the order-entry computer ... in which case the server was still at fault.

Still in all, a lot of places like Applebee's see their reputations dies just like this ... slow deaths by a thousand cuts.

I've eaten at two separate TexRoadHouses , one bin Bowie, MD, the other in Delaware.

Both were phenomenal in both service and taste and im not often impressed at restaurants.

Roadhouse isn't bad - probably the best of those "family-priced" chains. The menu is limited as opposed to others, which is probably why it's better. The ribeye is acceptable, the salads are good, the butter is their signature novelty. Their beer selection is pretty poor, though (Sammy seasonal is the best you are getting.)

All in all, not a bad meal if you can stand the country music.

Applebees is the worst. My wife and I refuse to eat there. The food has not taste but salt. I do not know why people go there.

some people acting like the steaks/service/experience etc are supposed to blow your doors off like at a high end steak house.....some steak snobs up in here....

TRH is what it is.....and for what they try to do, I think they do a pretty good job....

luckily I made a great choice one night and went with the prok chops......they were fantastic, seasoned and jucy to perfection....I also think the ceasar salad is decent.....and the ribs....

probably not the place to go if expecting a steakhouse experience, but still decent food at a reasonable price....they aren't trying to do any more than that.....hit em up when they have a good happy hour/drink special going and it can be a decent dining experience....

Not only was the food was terrible at both these places near me but it was soooooo salty! I do not add any salt to anything I make. Tastes good to me and it's very healthy because what we eat naturally has some salt in it. Very few people actually need additional sodium in their body so if you can kick the salt shaker habit, you're doing yourself good.
