I'm curious about Kyle Farnsworth. I saw he's starting a rehab assignment and might get brought back up soon. Is he worth an add? I might have the room on my bench. Could it pay off?
i dont see rodney giving up the role, as he's been dominant
...and if he falters Peralta has been dealing since his early season hiccups.

Should saves-chasers like me drop Fuentes for Ryan Cook now?
Tough call, you would think they would give Fuentes every chance they can to increase his trade value. I think cook eventually gets the job and runs away with it
No idea how things will play out, but Sean Doolittle is the best arm in that bullpen. My gut says when the dust settles (whether that's 2012 or 2013, I'm not sure), I think Doolittle is the guy getting saves for Oakland.

Dolittle came on the 6th last night, followed by Balfour in the 7th and 8th with Cook pitching a perfect 9th for his 1st save. Not sure how to read this, since we didnt see Fuentes, but I think Cook has the inside track on the job, followed by either Balfour/Fuentes w/ Dolittle 4th in line.

It's supposed to be based on match-ups. I think it's Cook or Fuentes most nights, with Balfour used as the primary set-up guy. Balfour is just not a closer IMO, but that doesn't mean he isn't pretty good in the 7th and 8th.

If he's still available, you better pick up Cook. Fuentes didn't pitch on Tuesday, and they went back to Cook last night after gaining a late lead. Is Fuentes injured?

Last week they said Fuentes was out as THE closer - they'd be going to a closer by committee approach.

Valverde was just warming up to come in and somehow hurt his wrist or hand. He couldn't come in the game.

No update yet.

The play is Benoit in fantasy leagues, Coke got the save tonight because Valverde couldn't go. Benoit got the save op when Valverde couldn't go last week (night off), if Valverde is out for any period of time Benoit probably gets the most chances. I do think Coke will be used though at times.

Isnt Brett Myers on the trade block? I want to trade for him, but if he is traded that really hurts his value in a no holds league

Hard to say. He won't be cheap at $11mm for this year and he already is getting close to vesting a $10mm option for 2013. Astros are obviously sellers but will anyone buy into Myers thinking they may have to pay him $10mm next year?

Myers' vesting option is based on games finished. If his new team uses him in a setup role, they can buy him out for $3M next year. He's basically the 2012 version of K-Rod except Myers 45 games finished requirement is a lot more achievable than Rodriguez' 55 games. If I were Houston, I would be looking to dump him for new Drachmas rather than risk having to pay $10M for a mediocre pitcher next year.

:goodposting: I thought Lopez was a shoe-in for 2 months of saves and added accordingly, but the recent injury may tempt the team with Lyon if he doesn't get traded too.

Guys I have stashed as potential post trade deadline closers

Greg Holland - watching Aaron Crow

Wilton Lopez - if his elbow isn't right, Lyon, if he doesn't get dealt too

Jared Burton - doubt Capps gets traded but if he does...

Rex Brothers - southpaw and Betancourt may not get dealt, but this team is bad enough that he should

I just added Clippard. Is he now the closer? Could be a stud
Possible but unlikely. All three of the other guys I think are options (Stammen, Burnett, maybe Rodrigeuz) pitched last night. Stammen went two innings and HRod had a complete meltdown, so they weren't really options. Burnett could have gone I guess but Clippard was rested and they didn't need him in the 7th or 8th.I think they'll go with a committee at least until Lidge is back and maybe until Storen is back. They like to be able to use Clippard in high leverage situations. Although apparently Clippard has complained to the front office that he'd like to get some save chances, so they might just decide to throw him a bone for the next month or so.
In 13 outings since being named the closer, Clippard has allowed just one hit, as he has taken his game to another level in the high-leverage role. He has lowered his ERA from 3.32 to 2.01 since taking over the role, and has 14 strikeouts to five walks in 12 2/3 innings in that span. He should be kept active in most mixed-league Fantasy formats while he is the closer.

 Glad he worked out for you. He's a stud, and has been for a while, no surprise he's succeeding in this role even though I'd rather they were more flexible in deploying him. But be careful with the business of bumping errant predictions, or I'll go back to bumping your posts about how the Pujols signing was great news for the Angels and bad news for the Rangers ;)

Sergio Santos to the DL. Cordero time in Toronto.
He's awful though.
I agree. And it doesn't sound like Santos's injury is serious. I suspect he'll be back after the 15 days.
Strange situation, the Jays have been really quiet on him. He barely pitched at all in spring but they said there was nothing wrong, then he looks bad early in the year, they say he's going on the DL but it isn't major and now setback after setback without anyone really ever saying what's wrong. Casey Janssen has been good though.

Did Lopez get hurt? Came into the game, threw three pitches, got pulled. Given waht Houston has in the bullpen after all those trades, hard to believe they'd pull him for the guy they put in who blew the save.

Damn Houston is bad, like 2003 Tigers bad.

I was wondering what happened, this is different:
In the eighth inning, Wright got leadoff hitter Alex Presley to ground out with one pitch before moving to right field. Lopez came on, allowed a double to Andrew McCutchen and exited for outfielder Brian Bogusevic, allowing Wright to come back to the mound. The lefty specialist got Garrett Jones to fly out and Neil Walker to ground out to end the inning. He then struck out Pedro Alvarez to open the ninth before giving way to Cruz.Wright had played in the outfield and pitched before -- on Aug. 23, 2011 at Colorado.
I really like this idea but I don't think I've ever seen it done before. Although I'm not a huge fan of NL baseball, this is pretty damn awesome. Actually would have been perfect if Lopez would have actually got the out.

I think Davey Johnson used to run this gimmick with the 86 mets, but I don't know if it was extra innings desperation moment or something he did on the quasi reg. I remember seeing the clips of those two alternating for as much as an inning, left-right-left-right. I think the trick may be you might not get warm up pitches to come back to the mound in that scenario.
