Windows and Cortana can get to know your voice and writing to make better suggestions for you. We'll collect info like contacts, recent calendar events, speech and handwriting patterns, and typing history.
I don't have anything to hide but some of that, particularly collecting my contacts, seems like none of their GD business.
You'd have to use something other than WMC: kodi, media portal, wintv, etc. This version still doesn't have any Windows Media Center (or similar) add on, correct? If I have a networked TV tuner (which I do), I wouldn't be able to view any channels with a Windows 10 computer?
It never will! (According to MS). It is not a feature that they are working on for some future date as other than porting it Media Center was dead after version 7. You need to look into alternatives. This version still doesn't have any Windows Media Center (or similar) add on, correct? I am not exactly sure what you mean by bloatware but I have not seen a single add, pop up or anything like that.Chaos Commish said:I'm getting a vista vibe here. Reading other forums a major complaint is microsoft, who promised easy elimination of bloatware, came through on that then just added a ton of MS bloat, ads, pop ups... relentlessly? Is this valid. I despise bloat. Gave away a near new Lenova just to get it out of my house. Run a chromebook 99% of the time.
Still considering a gaming build that would need windows... sigh.
I really hope this is not the case. I am getting really tired of the ad revenue model for software.Chaos Commish said:I'm getting a vista vibe here. Same here. No problems whatsoever.I am not exactly sure what you mean by bloatware but I have not seen a single add, pop up or anything like that.Chaos Commish said:I'm getting a vista vibe here. I did turn off every item in the privacy section as soon as I upgraded so that may be why I am not seeing anything like you described.
It is still very early but this has been my favorite windows in a long long time.
Yep. Mysterious "memory leaks" and bloatware that no one else seems to be getting.Same here. Probably just some Windows haters spreading nonsense.
This is all personal preference stuff but the GUI blows away Windows 7 for me.Are there any features on Windows 10 worth an upgrade from Windows 7 for? Gui looks better than 8, but still behind 7 and OSX...
This, and the entire house already done... Recommend it to anyone!I'm in!
I've been playing with the Technical Preview since last October and I really, really like it. It's everything Windows 8 SHOULD have been and more. Currently have all of my PCs on Windows 7 and will upgrade them all.
I just checked the Windows 10 compatibility site and Dell and my laptop Latitude E5520 isn't listed. Has anybody installed it on a computer that wasn't listed yet?
What makes certain pc's not be compatible for Windows 10? Does ten require certain hardware be in place? It's running great on my Asus G75VX. However I had a PITA initially because there was a specific incompatibility between Win 10 and my Cisco VPN software. Once I uninstalled that it went smoothly and I am really liking the experience so far.I just checked the Windows 10 compatibility site and Dell and my laptop Latitude E5520 isn't listed. Haven't read anything about people losing information yet or requiring a re-install. If you're running 7 or 8, it will most likely be fine. Thanks Chaka and Cliff. I'll jump in too. Not super excited if there's a major driver or video issue but what's the worst that can happen, right?
Yeah, me either.Haven't read anything about people losing information yet or requiring a re-install. If you're running 7 or 8, it will most likely be fine. Thanks Chaka and Cliff. I'll jump in too. no issues for me. I use it a ton too as I find it very convenient to find apps or resourcesAnyone else having trouble with their index? The windows quick search stuff (search bar next to the windows button) doesn't work at all for me, just keeps searching forever even for simple stuff like notepad, calculator, or photoshop. I rebuilt my entire index, it said it indexed over 1,000,000 items, but still no go. Can't get anything to pop up in there.
I had the same problem. I can verify that uninstalling my Cisco VPN client allowed me to upgrade and all my network adapters were visible. However I have not tried reinstalling the VPN since the upgrade.I like it when works, but I have a huge warning for people that have jobs that require them to use third party software to connect to VPNs for work. My work uses OpenVPN to allow us access to our production servers with Softlayer, so I've got that installed on pretty much all of my computers. On 2/2 computers I've upgraded so far, I've permanently lost Network connectivity for all adapters after my first reboot of the machine (everything works fine until that first reboot). I've had to revert the upgrade on both machines. There's no way to recover the network connections without reinstalling. Supposedly you can revert, uninstall the VPN software, upgrade, then install the VPN software and it works. We'll see.
I had just done a fresh install of 8.1 like a week prior to getting my upgrade so I only had like 32 hours of porn time logged on the new install. Most of you guys having issues need to clean up all the nasties you got from all the porn sites you've been too.
Stop blaming it on Windows 10 and acting like we all don't know why your computer isn't working correctly.

Send Microsoft info about how I write to help improve typing and writing in the future.

From what I've read you needed to upgrade first anyway. Once you've upgraded for free, Microsoft recognizes your machine as Win 10 and puts a key on there. If you thereafter do a clean install it will recognize that key automatically. There are tons of forums where people are talking about upgrading and then either doing a clean install over the top or moving their license to a new drive or PC. Find one of those for the particulars.
I never received the upgrade notification so I downloaded Windows 10 last night through the Microsoft website. I run my Windows 8 OS on my SSD, D:. There was no option to select a drive so I assumed Windows 10 would replace my Windows 8 OS on the same D:. Wrong... The Windows 10 OS is now on my older, spinning hard Drive, C: and everything including Windows 10 and Chrome are running much, much slower on this spinning hard drive C:.
I had previously made a restore point while running Windows 8. When I tried to roll back to Windows 8 from the day prior, Windows 10 says that all restore points were deleted? I have also downloaded the Windows 10 upgrade to a bootable USB thumb drive. The issue is that when I go through the installation process, it says that my product key is invalid. Is this because I have already installed the update to and am running Windows 10 on my C:?
I would simply like to re-install Windows 10 on my D: SSD rather than the current C:.
Please advise and thanks in advance.
Thanks. I spent 2+ hours on hold with Microsoft...Since you upgraded to a regular drive rather than your SSD, you could also run Belarc Advisor (Free) which inventories everything on your computer (doesn't send it out). Make note or take pics so you have the Win 10 activation key. Compare the two. It should be different than your Win7/8 key.
Then if you run into problems relocating to the SSD you still have your Free Win 10 code. I read about another guy who did this. I did not need to nor have I tried it myself.
“Our goal with the iOS bridge has never been simply to run iOS apps on Windows,” Salmaan Ahmed, the Windows Bridge for iOS program manager, explained. “Rather, our goal is to help you write great Windows apps that use as much of your existing code and knowledge as possible. We will, of course, continue to work to expand our iOS compatibility, but it’s important to note that there is much more you can do with the bridge.”
