This is my first time back in here as I've been on vacation since this posted. I ended up buying the used Taylor 516... I liked it a lot and it was a good deal, so I didn't want to let it sit available for another week+ while I was out of town. I'm sure I would love your Martin HD28, but timing wasn't good for me. Maybe down the road if you still have it and I'm ready to make another purchase...have him PM me- not sure who he is? but I'm willing to help out fellow FBG in need! Also looking to sell Gibson (spruce top maple body - short scale)
Just looked at this one... it's still available. None of you bit the bullet yet?I put in an offer so you don't get sucked in. Youre welcome GB
Beautiful sound.https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=533353
It’s the signature model guitar for a jazz acoustic player I love, Eric Skye:
https://youtu.be/_57qm9rOGkc
But the version for sale here is with a custom cutaway. Only two such guitars apparently exist in the world... I think I like the concept of the cutaway so I can more easily solo at the 12th fret. And the Brazilian rosewood is a custom upgrade too (his signature model is cocobolo, which is a beautiful looking and sounding close cousin of rosewood).
I think this is the very same guitar. Looks like it originally sold for almost $14k

Thanks... checking this one out now. Some pretty cool stuff on there.I like Johan Segeborn's channel. Lots of good gear related videos. Especially for comparing vintage Marshalls

I have one. Like it a lot. It’s the guitar that I keep next to my bed.Someone posted a used (but essentially new) Taylor GS Mini with bag on Facebook the other day for $300. I guess they run around $500 new. I thought about it but it was sold in just a few hours.

So these dudes are lit. The bass player is a bit like Billy Sheehan and the drummer sounds like a Tool / Red Hot Chilli Peppers hybrid. The new Ibanez is dope, and I am instantly psyched to gig with it.If you want to impress at the audition, smash the guitar as a finale.

Pretty psyched about it. We did some jams that have song potential. How did the audition go
Sick!Have a big show this Saturday night. The drummer in this video (playing in Superjoint Ritual with Phil Anselmo) is our new drummer. No joke.

I would say it's an ongoing conversation. For now we'll just jam, but that's cool with me.So you're in?

But I was just thinking of things I have heard about initiations into bands. I have never seen M&Ms in anyones ### but have heard about it
Here are some photos from our show at the Redneck Country Club this past Saturday night: https://www.facebook.com/pg/southernslangtexas/photos/?tab=album&album_id=2112621752117678Hmmm. My never ending quest to simplify my rig may have just taken a huge leap forward. At our gigs, I play both acoustic and electric guitar, so I bring both in a large dual acoustic/electric gig bag. It’s nice to only have one case, but it is necessarily pretty huge.
Well, our guitarist just bought and has let me borrow a Tom Anderson Guitarworks Crowdster Plus. It’s a custom guitar that uses bronze acoustic strings with a piezo acoustic pick-up under the bridge, as well an electric pickup at the bridge position that is specially designed to deliver incredible electric tone from bronze strings.
I was very dubious about the idea of a combo acoustic and electric guitar until I tried it today at practice. The acoustic sounded as good as my Taylor 414, and the electric pickup through my rig sounded better than my Deluxe Strat. And since I’m not soloing or bending strings during our performances, the thicker strings are no problem at all.
My radio transmitter system lets me switch between my electric rig and the direct input into the PA for my acoustic, so I was able to play through the set switching between acoustic and electric pickups without ever having to change guitars. I would have never believed it had I not heard (and played) it myself. Need to tinker with it some more, but this may end up being my primary gigging guitar. And my load gets a little lighter and my stage logistics a lot simpler.

Edit: Damn, after a couple of days, I'm sorta falling in love with this thing. Which means I'm probably going to have to buy it rather than "borrow" it from my buddy.
Our guitar player has an Egnator that he really likes, but it’s not a tweaker. Given what you play, I’d suggest that you also give the Orange Rocker 15 combo in that same price range a listen. The guy that fixed my old Mesa Boogie asked if I was interested in purchasing a used 20 watt Egnator Tweaker combo. (I still have insurance money to burn on gear.) My gear knowledge is essentially frozen in time from 1998, so I’m pretty unfamiliar with these other than what I’m seeing on YouTube. They seem like decent tweaker amps, but it’s tough to get a sense on the actual sound quality with amps like this. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on these. Both good and bad opinions are welcome...
ETA: I play through an old Les Paul Studio that I’ve had since the early 90s. I might be getting a Strat in the near future though. Most of the stuff I play is classic rock and some clean and lightly overdriven bluesy noodling.
I’m looking at some of the video demos online and I love the option to cut the wattage for home use. Really nice sound and straightforward controls. Yeah, one of the things I really like about Orange (other than the killer tone) is the simplicity of the controls. Also, tone wise, I think it pairs well with both Gibsons and Strats.I’m looking at some of the video demos online and I love the option to cut the wattage for home use. Why did you decide to get rid of it?I had a Tweaker 15 a while back. I liked it. There are tons of sounds in there.
A little too loud for bedroom levels and no built in reverb. I'm not a big pedal guy.Why did you decide to get rid of it?

At home. I have zero interest or time to play live. Also, I’m a total hack... I mainly enjoy just learning old songs and playing riffs. My Mesa Boogie 22 is already way more than sufficient (and loud) for me.Gianni Verscotchie said:How are you going to use it? In a band or at home?
If it's just for the bedroom, and you like classic rock, the Blackstar HT-5 is a great 5-watt studio/practice valve amp (I own one). Great tube tone at low volumes. There's a new version with on-board reverb. In case you're not familiar, Blackstar is a British amp company that was formed by a breakaway group from Marshall. I agree with this. Blackstar is excellent. I also owned one of those. I ditched it for (gulp) a Bugera G5 which is a straight up copy of the Blackstar with one important (to me) upgrade. The Bugera can switch power from 5w, 1w or .1wIf it's just for the bedroom, and you like classic rock, the Blackstar HT-5 is a great 5-watt studio/practice valve amp (I own one). That said, I still love the Orange Rocker 15 for your purposes, unless you really want onboard reverb as opposed to using the effects loop.
If you really want to go crazy (and have the budget) get a Kemper.Thanks. I also appreciate these suggestions. Even though 70s-80s rock is my preference, I’ve never been much of a fan of Marshalls... at least the JCM 800 and 900s, particularly for the volumes you needed to drive them at (hence my preference for the older Boogies). These sound like good options though to explore.
When I stopped playing regularly, I always wondered why there weren’t amp makers out there making lower wattage tube amps for home players. It seemed like such a massive void in the market. It’s nice to see so many great offerings become available in the last decade.
+1 I got one recently. It’s amazing. Like having every amp ever made at your fingertips. If you really want to go crazy (and have the budget) get a Kemper.
Guitar strings are such a personal choice that you will need to try several to find what you like. It depends on if you play more rhythm or lead as to the size but I like GHS boomers or the thick core boomers on my Les Paul. I prefer 10's but .09's might be better if you are newer.I just treated myself to a Gibson LP and am looking to change out the stock strings. Any recommendations for someone who likes to play Alt rock and metal?
I'm sure all of those sound fantastic and are all outstanding. I have never played any of them. Unless I hit the lottery, I'm certainly not owning any of themI'm narrowing down and getting close to my acoustic guitar purchase. It's been about 5 years since I had a bunch of expensive acoustics and was teaching myself more jazz and really starting to get halfway decent again as a player. Fast forward from there and it's been all work and family stuff. But work is easing, the babies aren't babies anymore, and I've found a window to get back into it.
After a crapton of research, I'm leaning heavily towards a Froggy Bottom acoustic. I owned a P14 parlor model back in those playing days, and my god, for a small guitar, it resonated like a piano. Just incredible. Best instrument I've ever owned. Now, they're not cheap, but they're just incredible.
So, I'm focusing on one of the smaller body Froggy models, likely the P (parlor) models or a C (00, slightly larger) model. After a bunch of web research, I've narrowed the field to these -- a mix of different woods. A love rosewood, but what Froggy does with mahogany is amazing; I also love walnut in an acoustic, just so beautiful, but I do worry it'll sound too bright.
I don't think there are any acoustic nerds in here who are as nerdy about acoustics as I am, but just in case, links below, and comments welcomed.
