Interesting discussion going on regarding breaks. I ran a 1/2 earlier this year....set a PR. Afterwards, I honestly didn't feel like running....so I didn't. I took about 2 full months off (maybe even 3 months), literally, no running. Nothing physical, just not motivated.
So I signed up for...
Hey guys! Haven't posted in a while but I've been trying to keep abreast on what's happening in here. I just remembered a kind of a funny story from the 10K I ran a while ago:
Woke up race morning and put on my running gear. As I walk outside I realize that it's kinda chilly. In the car I...
Hey everyone! It's been a while since I've been in here. My update:I did the same event as Gruecd....and had a similar experience. Humid, too much beer the previous 2 nights. I too was good through the first 5K (21:34), but struggled around mile 4.5. Finished in 45:58. Still a PR by almost...
Dang, I was hoping my name wouldn't come up. I'd love to do it but here's my weak excuse. When I started running last year my girlfriend suggested we do a destination run. I was all cocky and said something to the effect of, "If I'm going on vacation, it's NOT going to be for some race." I...
The Fall 50 looks like a lot of fun. Besides Gru, I know another person that ran it....he had a blast. This year won't work for me as I have other plans already.
Great day today! My goal was actually to average 7:30. So I missed by a bit. However, I HAD to take a bathroom break at around mile 10 or 11...so that added to my time. I was holding it since mile 4 and I even went just before the gun fired. I've never had to take a pee break (either in...
I'm running in the same event as Gru...only I will be doing the 1/2. I'm hoping for an average pace of 7:30/mile, so I looked on the website for that pace group. Their fastest pacer is pacing 7:38/mile. On one hand I'm bummed that there won't be a pacer for me....on the other hand that means...
Accelerade for me too! Someone here advised it...I tried it...and have used it ever since. Bonktown.com will have deals every once in a while. The taste is less than desirable, but I don't drink it for the taste.
10.5 miles yesterday at 8:15 pace. Nice comfortable long run. I'll be coasting for the rest of the week in preparation of my 1/2 on Sunday. 5 miles tomorrow (with a few strides) and 5-6 on Thursday. Forecast looks good....around 50 degrees, 20% chance of precip, winds at 10mph.
Oh, almost...
Yesterday's plan: Race simulation....12 total miles....first 6 miles at 8:30 pace, last 6 miles at 7:50.
Yesterday's reality: First mile 8:00 exactly...whoa, better slow up. Second mile was 8:03...way too fast for this run. I continued to run at what I thought was a comfortable pace...
PMB: Like others have said....Great Job! Last year I ran 5 miles in a downpour and that was painful...I couldn't imagine doing more than 5x that amount.
Ok. I wasn't sure if pacers were considered participants (ie: get bib numbers and included in the # of registered racers). Like BassNBrew says, drop a 2:59:59!!!
