2022 Year End Song Draft - Round 20 Today (1 Viewer)

I’ve been content with having Apple Music instead of premium Spotify. I just have the free version of Spotify. It’s annoying though that they only let me listen to the playlist on shuffle — even if I’m willing to listen to ads!

Round 6

Rhythm of the Ride - 3rd Secret

3rd Secret is an American alternative rock supergroup formed in late 2021. It features members of the grunge bands Soundgarden, Nirvana, and Pearl Jam.

The band's lineup includes bass guitarist/accordionist Krist Novoselic of Nirvana, drummer Matt Cameron of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, guitarists Kim Thayil of Soundgarden and Jon "Bubba" Dupree of Void, and vocalists Jillian Raye and Jennifer Johnson.

I wish that the rest of the album were better, but I guess those guys Cobain, Cornell and Vedder may have had something to do with the actual songwriting...

SCS Rd 7: Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Burning

Ok, so I did find a new song that came out well after the mid-year was complete. Although being truthful, the only reason I listened to this album and discovered this song is because a previously released single had been selected in the mid-year and I enjoyed it very much.
When I listen to this song I imagine it as a James Bond theme song. But that's just me. It may hit you different.

SCS Rd 2: Maggie Rogers - That's Where I Am
SCS Rd 3: COIN - Chapstick

I like this one a lot. Reminds of if an a modern indie artist recorded a version of a 50s torch song.

Your description got me to tune in, and sure and **** it's accurate. What a great song. A little almost steel guitar vibe, too, in that chorus.

Reminds me of something Cat Power would do. Guess that's too easy, but it does, only better.
Glad you liked the song and my description worked.

Actually, this playlist is pretty good on shuffle. I don’t feel like I need to “catch up”. Fine work, gents!

I owe a couple. Had a completely exhausting day, I think I'll post them in the morning.

Tomorrow will be round 8 in the AM, round 9 in the PM.

Saturday will be round 10 (one pick only)

Sunday will be round 11 (one pick only).

We will return to AM/PM picks next week, with round 20 falling on Friday, which is perfect IMO.

No one has to do all 20 rounds and I'm open to some sort of continuation beyond 20, if there's a lot left in the chambers but realistically after 12 more rounds there may not be tons left.

Fifth round pick.

ODESZA - The Last Goodbye

This band is headlining Saturday at Bonnaroo (who's coming?) and I don't know them at all. Will take any further recommendations.

I've never seen ODESZA live, but this album is easily my favorite for 2022.

I'll be discussing a Bonnaroo trip with my wife shortly.
PM me/keep in touch if you end up going. I'm heading there with Steve Tasker and Unialias from this board, plus another friend of mine (so far, our group has varied year to year)

Tasker and I have been somewhat mainstays in recent years though and done four festivals now (Wayhome 2016, 2017, Bonnaroo 2018, 2022). I've done a handful more and always look forward to them, even though I'm 39 now and camping four days in the Tennessee heat becomes more life threatening every year

Round 6.

This is my anthem of 2022.

PUP - Totally Fine (Audio) - YouTube
I love PUP so much. I don't know why they still come to my small little town every year (it's usually the first date of a tour or a small mini tour, so it's probably to work stuff out before they play for real crowds) but they do and this year's show was so great. They are very quickly climbing my list of bands I've seen live the most and they are phenomenal to see.

SCS Rd 8: Viagra Boys — Punk Rock Loser

Imagine my delight when I discovered this song had not been mentioned in either the mid-year or 2022 Music thread. Gimme, gimme, gimme.

J

SCS Rd 1: Mondo Cozmo - Electrify My Love
SCS Rd 2: Maggie Rogers - That's Where I Am
SCS Rd 3: COIN - Chapstick
SCS Rd 4: Lizzo - About Damn Time
SCS Rd 5: LØLØ x Maggie Lindemann – debbie downer
SCS Rd 6: Spoon - "Wild"
SCS Rd 7: Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Burning

And let's keep the female indie rock going here for a bit. I could have gone with a bunch of songs from this one, Laurel Hell was one of my favourite albums of the year (and I had "Working for the Knife" on my song list last year.

7.NV - Mitski - Love Me More

Draft Schedule:
Round 1 - Monday January 9 (anytime)
I know I'm the oddball around here who uses Youtube Music as his primary music service, but it does allow me to make/share playlists directly on Youtube. So for those who aren't spotify users or are just looking for an alternate presentation of this playlist, I've shared out the following...

Perhaps @Northern Voice can add this to the OP? Let me know if there are any issues using it.

Nice, I missed she had new stuff this year.

Added this as well as the remaining draft schedule to the first post.

SCS Rd 9: Marcus King - It's Too Late

The biggest challenge with this pick was deciding which song off his latest album to draft. I ultimately realized there were no wrong choices so I went with first song I recall listening to.
