Can you hear the bullpen phone Fernando?

I remember long ago another starry night like this

In the bullpen light Fernando

You were humming to yourself and softly strumming your glove guitar

I could hear the distant cheers

And sounds of Leyland's Maddon's call was coming from afar

The 9th inning is closer now Fernando

Every hour every minute seemed to last eternally

I was so afraid Fernando

We were young and full of life and none of us prepared to poke out our own eye

And I'm not ashamed to say

The roar of fastballs and two strikeouts almost made me cry

There was something in the air that night

The stars were bright, Fernando

They were shining there for you and me

For a Tigers Rays victory, Fernando

Though I never thought that we could lose

There's no regret

If I had to do the same again

I would, my friend, Fernando

If I had to do the same again

I would, my friend, Fernando

Now you've made us all old and grey Fernando

Since many years I haven't seen a glove in your hand

Can you hear the cheers Fernando?

Do you still recall the fateful night you pitched us out of a jam?

I can see it in your eyes

How proud you were to fight for the Tigers Rays and a can of spam

There was something in the air that night

The stars were bright, Fernando

They were shining there for you and me

For a Tigers Rays victory, Fernando

Though I never thought that we could lose

There's no regret

Yes, if I had to do the same again

I would, my friend, Fernando...

I love this, and I love Fernando. I also love Fernando on a friendly team option for 2013. And Andrew Friedman.

The bolded part of the song is something Fernando was always doing in the bullpen, that or talking to himself. I love sitting by the bullpens anywhere I go because you see great things, Fernando was always doing some great stuff down there in the pen. A lot of Tigers fans didn't like him, I always did (obviously) and thought people just needed to ease up on him. Tigers fans just came off of several years of Todd Jones though, so I kinda understand.I am so happy he has been so great this year.

Well I felt bad for Verlander who hadn't allowed more than four ERs in 13 career starts at Kaufman Stadium, but the AL didn't even score a run. I mean if they would have lost 8-6 that would have sucked, but they didn't.

:ptts: :coffee:

I know JV doesn't care about the playoffs, but give me a ####### break.
Maybe Ron laid a couple of bumps out before the game, got him a bit too hyped.
Blame Kate Upton for Detroit Tigers Pitcher Justin Verlander's Shockingly Bad Performance in the 2012 MLB All-Star GameUpton Stole Verlander's Mojo, That's the Only Logical Explanation

By Adam C. Biggers | Yahoo! Contributor Network – 5 hours ago

COMMENTARY| Justin Verlander's one inning of hideous pitching Tuesday night during the 2012 MLB All-Star Game at Kaufman Stadium in Kansas City was very un-Justin Verlander-like.

The defending American League MVP and Cy Young winner has been lights out for the majority of the season for the Detroit Tigers. However, his showing during the Midsummer Classic was anything but All-Star worthy. Beat up from the get-go, Verlander was given the loss after the National League's 8-0 victory, which got a healthy boost by way of a five-run first inning.

What was going on with Verlander? What happened to the pitcher baseball fans have come to know and respect for his dazzling arsenal and stingy ways on the mound? Verlander gave up four hits, five earned-runs and walked two, resulting in a 5-0 deficit after his first, and only, inning of play.

Surely there is an explanation for all of this. And a good one, too. Blame it on Kate Upton, who reportedly spent at least Thursday and Friday with -- or in close proximity to -- Verlander. The 20-year-old bikini model obviously had some type of negative impact on Verlander's pitching. That's the only way to explain it. Clearly, she stole his mojo.

"That's why I don't try to throw 100 (mph) in the first inning," Verlander said during a post-game interview. "Usually doesn't work out too well for me."

No. That's not it. Verlander has thrown 100 mph early in games during his career. I can't remember a game when he gave up five earned-runs in one inning. He's hardly even given up five earned-runs in six-plus innings of work.

I'm clearly kidding about the Upton jinx. A mere mortal couldn't have affected Verlander in such a manner. He's not human. He's impervious to that sort of stuff, right? But if you saw a photo of Upton, you'd soon know that she may hold the power to make even a pitching machine like Verlander have a bad night.

Hopefully she consoles him after what was one of the worst innings in All-Star game history. She owes him at least that much. Whatever she did to Verlander must be undone -- and quickly.

Does the NL even stand a chance in this game?
Yes...Good pitching beats good hitting and vice versa...
AL has better pitching and hitting.
Thank God the AL has the better pitching and hitting or this game could be a blowout...GO NL!!!
This game belonged to the NL but the AL has better pitching and hitting.
well obviously. the head to head game indicated as much.

You're right, the NL is obviously better based on this one game.

The NL is better because they don't have the DH...

Right again, watching a starting pitcher either try to bunt or just K every 2 to 3 innings is fun to watch.

Yeah, thats the only dynamic having the pitcher hit brings.

scrump is just another clueless AL fan...
ha....awaken me, old sage, to the excitement, intracacy, and strategery that is NL baseball. :excited:

@OldHossRadbourn: 1865: a resounding All-Star victory for the Union League over the breakaway Rebel Association. Rebel home field advantage was of no aid.

Miggy is good.
People who don't see him in the field every day should also realize he's pretty good at 3B. He'll never win a fielding bible award but he's not anywhere near the disaster some make him out to be. Most of the errors he makes are on easy plays to be honest, just loses concentration at times.

Fangraphs has him at -12 so far this year with a projection of -21 for the year. Fielding bible has him at -10. Longoria on the other hand is projected for +21.2 on fangraphs which makes for a 42 run differential. Obviously Miggy makes up for a lot of that with his insane hitting.

But he sucks at defense.

He doesn't and you are one of the people I was talking about. You're the same guy that said last year how great your Rays were defensively and they were 26th in MLB in fielding and gave up the third most unearned runs. So I'll take your opinion with a huge grain of salt. ;)

Keep quoting the sabermetrics fielding stuff though, makes Jhonny Peralta one of the best shortstops in baseball year in and year out.
