Casino's improvement over time comes from its cable-TV rewatchability. You're flipping through the channels, you see Casino on, you watch for an hour or so, it's not bad. Usually you pick it up where the FBI guys' plane runs out of fuel. Some good scenes, you get into it, you don't have to sit and watch the whole thing. If you always had to watch it the whole way through, I doubt as many people would say it's improved that much over time.
I could see that. I would agree that it does get a bit tedious near the end, if you watch it all of the way through in one sitting, thanks to the constant bickering of Ace and Ginger. Still, the rest is stellar.
If I had to listen to her ask for her money one more ####### time i was going to shoot her myself

Goodfellas is rated properly. Casino is vastly underrated. Both are endlessly rewatchable. Lorraine Bracco bugs me at tmies, Sharon Stone bugs me at times. Jimmy is a cooler character than Ace but DeNiro murders both roles. Tommy and Nicky are almost interchangeable. The first three fourths of Goodfellas is possibly the most entertaining a film can ever be, though, and while Casino is solid start to finish, it can't reach that height. I'd say Goodfellas is a 9.5, Casino is a 9.
:lmao: I would add that...actually, I have nothing to add to that.

What is it about Goodfellas...

I have it on DVD (as most people do), but I might pop that in only once a year.

But when it's on TV, you CANNOT change the channel. A lot like The Godfather I and II in that regard.

I'll watch both repeatedly, but it's Goodfellas for me. I cannot stand watching Sharon Stone's over-acting in Casino.

Goodfellas is better, but I totally agree with Casino being underrated. The fact that this thread doesnt have more votes/posts pretty much says that.

I voted I like them equal, but its clear Casino dont get no respect

I have no problem with movies being long, when theyre good. Casino is long, but its fantastic.

....also, I like Heat just about as much as both of these. Another movie that I dont care if its 3 hours because its ####in awesome. RN, youre missing something if you dont like this movie

I have an open mind. I'm willing to give it another try.I just remember watching it in the theater and expecting.... more.

The theater is overrated when it comes to great movies, especially movies that are 3 hours long

Heat is good, but these two are on a different level

Haven't seen Heat since it came out and did not particularly like it at the time. I need to give it another shot. I'll see if I can find it on BluRay and give it the full HT treatment

I wouldnt say another level, although the 2 in question are mob movies, the other isnt. I probably like Goodfellas and Casino more, but its close. Heat is the only movie where both DeNiro and Pacino shared the screen (well, at least prior to Righteous Kill). And although I think DeNiro is a much better actor than Pacino, Pacino holds his own. Their 1-2 dynamic in itself is something the other 2 movies dont offer

Also, the 15 minute bank heist scene in Heat is better than any scene in Casino or Goodfellas. Its IMO 1 of the best action sequences in film

I never watch bits of movies I love on TV. I always like to start it from the beginning on DVD.

Agreed..not only do they cut out tons of stuff, if its a movie I own, I'll watch it when I want.I dont think I've ever watched Goodfellas, Godfather X, or any movie I own on TV

If you turn to a radio station that is in the middle playing your favorite song, do you turn it off and go find the CD so you can listen from the start?

Ya know, it's interesting...The International is...well, it's not very good...but when I first saw the gunfight in that, I thought, "Wow. This is the best movie shootout I've seen since Heat." The bank heist scene is clearly the benchmark for action sequences.

Same here. Plus, when I do watch the DVD the scenes are fresher.

Pretty sure theres a difference between 3 minutes and 2-3 hours :lmao:

Not sure what you're trying to say. If youre comparing Heat (or that scene, even) to The International, you might want to watch Heat again. While that scene from Heat was great, you dont leave Heat only remembering the bank heist scene.

Not at all. Heat is one of my Top 5 movies from the 90s, and a far superior movie. I'm strictly talking about that gunfight.

:lmao: That

is almost on another level than most action scenes. all about the detail

I wouldn't call it overacting, but I can see how her constant yelling and screaming in consecutive scenes near the end of the movie might be a bit grating.

Goodfellas is superior to Casino. Pretty much common sense.

Once Sharon Stone goes bat#### in Casino the movie takes a large downturn. Picks up during the end but their is a 30-45 minute section that is fast-forward worthy.

It really is not that close. Goodfellas is superior to Casino. The scene with Pesci, DeNiro and Liotta with Pesci's mother is the end all.

A better poll would be Casino vs. Donnie Brasco.

Goodfellas is in the pantheon.

I think the theater experience can affect the way you process a movie. Two movies that I disliked in the theater that I loved when I saw them again were Unbreakable and Heat. Both of these movies were "quiet" movies and in a crowded theater every cough, fidget and whisper is amplified. In addition, IMO...these two movies, for whatever reason, drew audiences who might have been expecting more than their subtle nature.

Casino would win by a mile. DB was another movie where I came out a bit disappointed. Upon later viewings, it got a little better but it still did not knock my socks off.

:bag: That

There are some great, realistic touches in that scene. Little ones. Like when Kilmer transfers the money into his black bags. He's really using a lot of effort to do it. Which makes sense, since the money would be extremely heavy. But it's almost like Mann filled those bags with bricks - because Kilmer really strains to lift that weight.

Brasco is a lot of fun. Casino is far superior.

Casino is good, but it's kind of like if Oliver Stone tried to do a Scorcese movie.

Goodfellas is better. Godfather blows them all away, obv

"Casino" on HBO Signature.

Flipped on it just as the guy in the bar tells De Niro to "shove that pen right up your f****** ####".

The night did not end well for that guy.

:blackdot:

Casino is coming up on HBO HD at 2:30 am ET.

The HD broadcast looks far superior to the DVD. Finally gonna have a chance to save this on the DVR.
