June 1st cuts? (1 Viewer)

They said something on NFLN yesterday that teams can designate their June 1st cuts before June 1st as some sort of change in the salary cap system (agreed upon in the last CBA). Keyshawn was apparently one of these cuts. Schefter said that the end result will be that we won't see the 2nd round of free agency that we are accustomed to.

Vick debuts haircut for Falcons offseason workouts

2007-05-31 13:56

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) - Michael Vick is going for a new image. He hopes his new haircut is a start.

Vick, who has worn his long hair in braids since proclaiming in 2004 he wouldn't get a haircut until he won the Super Bowl with the Atlanta Falcons, showed up for offseason workouts Thursday with a new short natural cut.

Vick wasn't talking, but team spokesman Reggie Roberts said the decision was part of Vick's resolve for a clean start in 2007.

``The guy is making some changes, not only in his personal life but in his business,'' Roberts said.

``I really feel he is doing some things that are going to help him professionally and personally.''

Falcons coach Bobby Petrino applauded the new look, saying Vick looks younger.

``He looks good,'' Petrino said. ``I like it. He's got a big smile on his face and a nice haircut.''

The Falcons and the NFL are monitoring the ongoing investigation into whether Vick's property in Virginia was part of a dog fighting operation.

A prosecutor investigating the case, County Commonwealth's Attorney Gerald G. Poindexter, said Wednesday there is evidence linking Vick to dogfighting, which is a felony in Virginia.

Poindexter said informants ``are volunteering to make those allegations'' that Vick was involved in dogfighting.

Police conducting a drug investigation raided the house Vick owns in rural Surry County on April 25 and found 66 dogs, 55 of them pit bulls. They also found items associated with dog fighting, including a ``pry bar'' used to pry apart a dog's jaws.

No charges have been filed in the case.

Vick, a registered dog breeder, has blamed relatives for taking advantage of his generosity and insisted he was rarely at the house. Vick has since put the home on the market and sold it in a day, although the sale has not yet been completed.

Cartman: (wearing a nice sweater) Hi Kyle.Kyle: That isn't it, Cartman. Cartman: What isn't it? Kyle: That's not being nice! That's just putting on a nice sweater! Cartman: I don't understand the difference. Kyle: I know you don't. (closes door)

Was Times

So today should be almost like any other day in the quiet month of June in the NFL. Indianapolis might cut defensive tackle Corey Simon, who missed all of last year with an undisclosed medical condition, if he and the Colts privately settled his grievance.

Other than that, teams are in such good shape against the cap -- which increased significantly the past two years -- that players like cornerbacks Deltha O'Neal of Cincinnati and Jerametrius Butler of St. Louis figure to survive at least into preseason. It's hard to imagine anyone getting too excited about Arizona cutting defensive tackle Kendrick Clancy, guard Milford Brown or fullback Obafemi Ayanbadejo. Daunte Culpepper should remain in Miami -- unless (or until) fellow quarterback Trent Green finally joins the Dolphins.
The article also talks about Greg Ellis in Dallas and why there are fewer cuts now than in past seasons.
