MJD Injury? (1 Viewer)

Was listening to ESPN this morning here in Chicago and they were really down on MJD. Said the agent getting involved was a bad sign - basically stepping in to protect the player because the club wasn't being forthright on the extent of the injury. They drew comparisons to Sidney Rice.I'm not suggesting everything that is said on the Eastern Seaboard Programming Network is a nugget, but it cannot be denied that there is a risk here. Ideally, you want first round picks (particularly top 5 picks) to be risk-free slam dunks. My draft is already done, but I'd drop him down a tier if I were you guys.
Bump for opinions on this point.

I don't expect him to miss any significant time, I'm expecting another season like the last...

I just drafted in one of my more competitive leagues and the entire league was scared to death of MJD. He fell to me at 6 and I just laughed in everybody's face. That news came out at the absolute perfect time. Thanks!

No Jennings went in like the 10th round to somebody who apparently is actually basing their team on BS reports. I understand the fear, but I think there is fear with just about any pick. I'm not going to pass on a top 3 fantasy player because of some bogus report. I also probably wouldn't have even gotten Jennings anyway though even if he didn't go that early. There was so much value in the mid rounds at RB that Jennings wouldn't start for me even if he was the full time starter. I went with MJD in the first and then didn't draft an RB again until the 6th when I went RBush, Forsett, and MBarber. No MJD handcuff would play over them. The value in the middle is just crazy.

Can't really believe FBGs don't debunk this stuff quicker. I don't think they are paying attention to their boards, didn't they send out a false email? Link
Hi,

I think you must be confusing our content with another site.

When this story broke yesterday, we immediately sent an update to all our subscribers:

Hi Folks,

We don't want to panic you but there's some news out of Jacksonville that you need to know about regarding RB Maurice Jones-Drew. There are reports that he'll be held out of the last two preseason games for "precautionary" reasons as he heals from a RUMORED minor knee surgery.

Link: http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Source...-preseason.html

Clipped from the Aaron Wilson article:

Jacksonville Jaguars star running back Maurice Jones-Drew is expected to miss the remainder of the preseason due to a minor knee injury, according to several NFL sources with knowledge of the situation.

It's been rumored that Jones-Drew recently underwent an arthroscopic procedure to clean out his knee from wear and tear.

Per one source, Jones-Drew had been dealing with lingering meniscus issues.

According to one source, Jones-Drew would be able to play as soon as this weekend's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers if it were a regular-season game.

However, the Jaguars are proceeding with caution with their featured back.

Jones hasn't practiced all week and has insisted to reporters that he's not hurt.

"It's like Allen Iverson said, it's practice," Jones-Drew said Thursday. "There's no worries."

At this point, there's no cause for concern as far as his availability for the regular season.

[[[[[[[[[ OUR VIEW ]]]]]]]]]]]

Aaron Wilson at the National Football Post is an excellent source and guy you should listen to. Jones-Drew isn't expected to have any long term issues connected to this and as he says, there are "no worries". On the flip side, Jones-Drew is a very early first round pick for most leagues. For a guy ranked that highly, you'd like to have a perfectly clean bill of health.

The reality is that no player is perfectly worry free. This doesn't really change our opinion of Jones-Drew, I might drop him maybe one spot or so. Mainly, it's just something to chew on here and be aware of. And I could even get behind a strategy going taking the opposite angle and start talking up the knee surgery in hopes that Jones-Drew might fall to you a few spots later than normal.

I just know that many of you guys are headed into drafts and need to know everything you can. Good luck and have a great one.

J

I made sure to stress it was a rumored knee surgery capitalizing RUMORED in the email I sent. Then in the follow up Daily Email Update, we wrote this on MJD and mailed it to all our subscribers:

JAX - RB Maurice Jones-Drew's agent disputes surgery report

Source: Tania Ganguli -The Florida Times-Union

Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew's (knee) agent said there is no truth to the report that Jones-Drew recently underwent knee surgery, reports Tania Ganguli, of The Florida Times-Union.

Interesting to see this after the Jones-Drew story earlier today. It does appear that Jones-Drew has something that's keeping him out for the next two weeks. But again, we don't think it's anything significant.
I'm not sure how we could have covered this any differently. On the breaking news, I believe that most of our readers want us to continue operating as we always have with the "You'll know what I know" system. If I see a rumor that is something I want to know about, I'll pass it along to folks clearly stating that it's a rumor. And usually offering up our opinion on the rumor as we did with this. I don't plan to change from that.J

Maurice Jones-Drew: Jones-Drew's injury is 'soreness'

Maurice Jones-Drew - RB - JAC - Aug. 27 - 7:29 pm et

ESPN's Adam Schefter characterizes Maurice Jones-Drew's knee injury as "soreness," and confirms that he is not coming off surgery.

Schefter also confirms that Jones-Drew will likely be held out of the final two preseason games, likely as a precaution. MJD's injury is a concern, but not enough to move him in our fantasy rankings. He's our No. 3 player.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jaguars Pro Bowl running back Maurice Jones-Drew has not had knee surgery, Jacksonville coach Jack Del Rio said Monday.Del Rio squelched the surgery rumors put out by an Internet blog report which said Jones-Drew had the surgery."No," he said. "No, has not happened, is not necessary. He's working, rehabbing, strengthening and gearing up for the regular season."Because of the team's short week, Del Rio will not play Jones-Drew, who has a sometimes balky left knee, and most of the starters against Atlanta on Thursday."There's always a fine line," Del Rio said. "You want to work your guys, they need to be ready to go, they need to be playing at their best."Jones-Drew, who had 10 carries in the preseason last season, has only six carries for minus-two yards this preseason, but Del Rio said he'll worry about the running back being in game shape later.NFL Audio PassDon't miss any of the action with NFL Audio Pass, which gives you access to every game's radio calls. Find out more here."I think in terms of ideal scenarios you'd like to have a little more active work going into it," Del Rio said. "I think arriving to the regular season with him at full strength ready to take his turn, I think that's most important rather than trying to decide whether or not he's going to be able to carry it 30 or 35 carries.A team spokesman said Jones-Drew declined to comment.Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew is done for the preseason.Jones-Drew, who missed three days of practice this week, didn't make the trip to Tampa for Saturday's preseason game against the Buccaneers. His agent, Adisa Bakari, denied a Friday report that Jones-Drew had arthroscopic knee surgery.Fantasy takeMaurice Jones-Drew folded in Week 16 last season, so fantasy enthusiasts have to like where Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio's head is at with resting his star back. More ..."What arthroscopic surgery is there that a player can return in one week?" Bakari told The Florida Times-Union. "There isn't one."Bakari told The Associated Press that the Jaguars are resting the Pro Bowl running back in the final two preseason games for "precautionary reasons." Jones-Drew will be ready for the season opener, Bakari added.Bakari said playing his client now "can only hurt the team." He believes the Jaguars know they need Jones-Drew during the regular season, so they "decided they're not going to play him now.""It doesn't make sense for him to go out for three quarters and get smashed in a preseason game ...," Bakari told The Times-Union. "The organization has made a very smart decision to rest him."Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said most starters won't play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons. He wants to prevent injury, especially with the short turnaround between games. The Associated Press contributed to this report

Now that we all know the truth, is MJD still a #3 overall pick and consensus #3 RB? Or would you give the nod to Gore, Rice, Turner, or someone else?

In a touchdown heavy league, no PPR, with emphasis on rushing for 100+ yards which of these two do you think will have a better overall fantasy year?

C Johnson - 14

A Peterson - 17

MJ Drew -13

R Rice - 10

F Gore - 12

M Turner - 16

Who in this group will have 16+ TD's?

My thoughts right now:

A Peterson - 17

M Turner - 16

Read this on another site (free content). It was a Q&A with a doctor, who is a board-certified orthopedic clinical specialist, about MJD's condition:

What is a lateral meniscus injury?

Lateral meniscus is one of the shock-absorbing structures that is inside the knee. It's a piece of cartilage. There are two of them, one on the inside and one on the outside. He reportedly has a tear on the outer one. That can mean many different things, depending on the severity of it.

Jones-Drew is not going to have surgery, will play through the injury and is fully expected to be out there for Week 1. Will he be affected?

A lot will depend on how bad the tear is and where the location is. It sounds like he has some fraying, some wear and tear in there, so he should be able to go ahead and continue playing. It's not going to affect his stability, it's not going to affect his strength. It's more a matter of how much pain he can deal with. And he may only have pain when he sort of squats past a certain point. Maybe in the offseason you'll see him get a scope.

Can he make it worse by playing on it?

The integrity of it is apparently not severe. But he can certainly aggravate it more, he can tear it more, cause more swelling. Swelling and pain is really what's going to limit the ability of his leg to function like he needs it to function.

If he ends up needing surgery, how long would he be out?

The timeframe ranges vary. In my experience, the best-case scenario is two weeks. An athlete may not be 100 percent at that point, but he could certainly play.

What does it tell you that he's not having the surgery right now?

If they're not doing the surgery, this tells me it's relatively minor. But again, the concern is yes, it can progress, yes he can have more pain and swelling and eventually miss some time.

How concerned would you be about drafting Jones-Drew?

I know he's probably around the top of a lot of people's lists. And if he's there and another guy is there, I'd probably lean toward the other guy. You're taking a little bit of a risk knowing that well, he's got this thing that could linger all season. He could even end up saying, 'Hey the bye week is coming up, let's just do this real quick and then get back out there.'

Obviously the doc does not know how bad MJD's knee is, but not want I'd want to hear from a top 5 pick.

"After having a tough offseason, OTAs, a tough training camp, obviously I wanted to be out there with my teammates but we felt the best thing for me was rest and rehab and getting my body back right, taking care of all the nicks and bruises. I feel great. I can't wait to get out there and play Denver. They are the first hurdle in our road to success and I can't wait to get out there."

"It's been a big mess over nothing. There have been some false reports out there about what happened which is fine. People are going to speculate but that is not going to hurt anything that happens with this team. More than anything else guys understand. They want me back, I want to be back, and I will be back on Monday doing everything I need to do to get ready to beat Denver."

I have the #3 pick in 14 team ppr on Labor Day...I am not touching Drew. I believe his workload last year was a bit too much for his frame and this year it will catch up to him. Hope I'm wrong.

For what it's worth I just read that MJD expects to practice this Monday. I have the #3 pick in my draft tonight and I am very leary about taking him there because of this injury.

My buddy in my league is so worried he wants to trade him. Im thinking of making a pretty decent offer for him. I usually never trade before day 1 but the chance to have AP and MJD on the same squad, I'm willing to be lean elsewhere to pull it off.
