New Van Halen Album (1 Viewer)

I certainly haven't heard Honeybabysweetiedoll yet, but if I had, I'd probably say that it sounds like a Buckethead track. And I mean that in a good way.

I detected some hints of Dimebag Darrell as well. This might be the best song on the album. There is no way a group of guys this old (minus Wolfie) should sound this pulverizing.

My thought as well. Some of their early releases (e.g., Tattoo) kinda sucked. But, most of the other tracks have really rocked. China Doll, Outta Here, HSBD, As Is, among a few others...pretty surprisingly sweet.

By the way at the new album release party the other night in LA is getting fantastic reviews. A few quotes

"Contrary to the Café Wha? performance a month ago, David Lee Roth traded in his overalls and intimate club act for what the fans know and love – Diamond Dave was back in full force, dressed in custom jewel studded leather pants, a vibrant blue shirt and a couple different unique jackets. Roths vocals were strong, dead on and his pitch was perfect."

I agree that those clips at the Cafe Wha weren't the best, but it had to be the audio system and lack of feedback. Roth sang fantastic the last tour (at least the 2nd night he did in Greensboro) so for those who bought tickets, I'd be encouraged by this.

A few other notes-

"Eddie, Wolfley, and Alex were as tight as a rock band could be. Edward Van Halen is clearly back to playing like the guitar god we all know and love. Goosebumps were rampant. Ed used a replica of the original red striped Frankie for “Tattoo”, and used his Stealth Wolfgang on every other song. Wolfgang used three different striped basses."

Finally the set list for this 1 hour show-

You Really Got Me

Runnin’ With The Devil

Unchained

The Trouble With Never

Everybody Wants Some!!

She’s the Woman

Dance The Night Away

Panama

Tattoo

Hot For Teacher

Ice Cream Man

Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love

Jump

"Tattoo" and "You and Your Blues" are the only crummy songs on here, but man, I cannot get "Tattoo" out of my ####### head for the life of me now

I can't rip any of the youtube videos to MP3. All copyright protected or some ####.
Its already up on torrent sites. Just downloaded it. Gonna give it a listen later.
I don't have any clients, used to pull #### off megaupload but that's apparently ( o Y o )-up at this point too. I wish it released today, I'd just go buy it - going to party at my brother's house tomorrow and he's going to be dying to hear it. I guess I can just play the youtube vids with my phone, I do have mini speakers that plug into it.

"Blood And Fire" kicks tail. I can't remember the last time I wanted to roll down the windows and turn up the volume and step on the accelerator when a Van Halen song came on the radio.

Its nice to see them come back with something thats actually good (Tattoo aside).

Welcome back, fellas!

the guitar solos throughout this CD are incredible. I honestly think this may be approaching Fair Warning or VH1 for Ed's best work.

They're so crazy that I question Ed's ability to pull them off live.
He'll have to be sober to do so, that's for sure. By all accounts, he really has gotten his life back together. And since his own son is with him every night, you'd hope he'd be extra motivated to keep it together. And speaking of Wolfie, I have a feeling NONE of this would be happening if not for him.

"Swap-meet Sally, tramp-stamp cat" does have a nice ring to it though.
Let's not leave out"mousewife to mombshell in the time it took to get that new tattoo tattoo tattoo" :lmao:
hate you guys
Show me your dragon magicTattoo tattooSo autobiographicI gotta admit Eric Cartman sounds good on bass. Whoda thunk it?

PSA - today is the official release day for ADKOT. Can't stop listening to it.

Also - Howard 101 on Sirius/XM is playing non-stop Van Halen clips/interviews. It isn't live - it's a compilation of all things Van Halen from past episodes all compiled into six hours worth of material. On now.

Listening in the office right now off Spotify. Really needs a few listens to get a full opinion, and probably at least once in the car without distraction, but so far I'm very impressed. Never thought I would see this kind of album from these guys again.

Just noticed the harmonies in Shes The Woman's chorus don't sound too far off from Michael Anthony's vocals.

I've personally never understood the whole Team Roth vs. Team Hagar thing with the fans.
Seriously?
Seriously. I think both singers put out a lot of great stuff with VH. Gary Cherone on the other hand....
:goodposting: The last part was VERY disappointing as I LOVED the First Extreme album and thought maybe, just maybe with VH he would return to his :headbang ways.. :kicksrock:
you can go right to hellGary is too good for van halen

:lmao: Just feel he went to "soft" with his lyrics and his singing style after Pornograffitti..

There's just something......wrong......about David Lee Roth harmonizing with himself. He almost never did that with Van Halen -- it was always Mike and Ed. I like Dave's voice, but it's a lead singer's voice, not a harmony singer's voice. The classic Van Halen sound is a lot like the classic Beach Boys sound, with different voices handling different parts. No one wants to hear Mike Love sing background vocals. (Then again, not too many people want to hear Mike Love sing, period.)

Given this new album about 3 or 4 spins through, and I have to say..I love it. About 2 or 3 stinkers, but on whole, I think I'm in. Was expecting disappointment, too. But, of the DLR era, I'd put this effort only behind VHI and Fair Warning. Someone earlier characterized the band's refreshed approach as "pulverizing.". Seriously, that's an apt description. Eddie's chops are phenomenal, and I love Wolfie's emergence as a legit asset. Love Michael Anthony and still miss his presence with the band. But, Wolfie kicks some serious ### on this album.

Very happy today.

I'm shocked that I'm so amazed, but dear god...I honestly forgot or took for granted how ####### awesome he is. As one article I read described...he's found his fastball again. Geezus. I'll say.

Listening now - really, really like this.

Am fine w/ the harmonies - close enough. Wolfie can play, too.

God, I feel like going to mall and hitting the arcade. This is right out of the early 80's. In a really good way.

Wolfgang did impress me on those live club clips on youtube. Eddie has someone to play off of besides his own keyboards.

Picking this up today.

Yeah I am one of the few left who actually buys CD's. I like having a case, liner notes, lyrics etc. Plus CD's sound much better than mp3. I am a sonic audiophile nut.

Will report back. I have been a long time VH fan. And I liked everything (except VH3). I will ay I do not like the single (Tattoo) but I see the buzz and i am excited. Eddie was a major influence on my own playing early in my youth. And everything I have been reading says he is back.

For the record here are my top 5 VH albums

1) Fair Warning

2) VH 2

3) VH 1

4) 5150

5) 1984

No doubt this album rocks. And you're right, Eddie's chops are indeed phenomenal. That said, the album is light on hooks. And that was one of the things I liked about VH. Crazy guitar riffs and fun hooks. Regarding your rankings, I know 1984 gets some flack, but there's nothing on ADKOT that approaches Panama or Hot for Teacher or even I'll Wait in terms of good catchy songwriting. She's the Woman comes the closest. Still, I'm very pleased with the effort and Eddie brings it big time.
