I detected some hints of Dimebag Darrell as well. This might be the best song on the album. There is no way a group of guys this old (minus Wolfie) should sound this pulverizing.I certainly haven't heard Honeybabysweetiedoll yet, but if I had, I'd probably say that it sounds like a Buckethead track. And I mean that in a good way.
My thought as well. Some of their early releases (e.g., Tattoo) kinda sucked. But, most of the other tracks have really rocked. China Doll, Outta Here, HSBD, As Is, among a few others...pretty surprisingly sweet.I detected some hints of Dimebag Darrell as well. This might be the best song on the album. not without GaryNobody thinks this album is going to be any good, right?
according to youI also kinda dig how Vai is helping out a young female guitarist by playing along with her in this.
"Swap-meet Sally, tramp-stamp cat" does have a nice ring to it though."Tattoo" and "You and Your Blues" are the only crummy songs on here, but man, I cannot get "Tattoo" out of my ####### head for the life of me now
Its already up on torrent sites. Just downloaded it. Gonna give it a listen later.I can't rip any of the youtube videos to MP3. All copyright protected or some ####.

They're so crazy that I question Ed's ability to pull them off live.the guitar solos throughout this CD are incredible. I honestly think this may be approaching Fair Warning or VH1 for Ed's best work.
He'll have to be sober to do so, that's for sure. By all accounts, he really has gotten his life back together. And since his own son is with him every night, you'd hope he'd be extra motivated to keep it together. And speaking of Wolfie, I have a feeling NONE of this would be happening if not for him. They're so crazy that I question Ed's ability to pull them off live.the guitar solos throughout this CD are incredible. Gary Cherone was VERY disappointing as I LOVED the First Extreme album and thought maybe, just maybe with VH he would return to his :headbang ways..Seriously. I think both singers put out a lot of great stuff with VH. Gary Cherone on the other hand....Seriously?I've personally never understood the whole Team Roth vs. Team Hagar thing with the fans.
you can go right to hellGary is too good for van halenThe last part was VERY disappointing as I LOVED the First Extreme album and thought maybe, just maybe with VH he would return to his :headbang ways..Seriously. Just feel he went to "soft" with his lyrics and his singing style after Pornograffitti..you can go right to hellGary is too good for van halenThe last part was VERY disappointing as I LOVED the First Extreme album and thought maybe, just maybe with VH he would return to his :headbang ways..Seriously. Because it may be Michael AnthonyJust noticed the harmonies in Shes The Woman's chorus don't sound too far off from Michael Anthony's vocals.
There's just something......wrong......about David Lee Roth harmonizing with himself. He almost never did that with Van Halen -- it was always Mike and Ed. I like Dave's voice, but it's a lead singer's voice, not a harmony singer's voice. The classic Van Halen sound is a lot like the classic Beach Boys sound, with different voices handling different parts. No one wants to hear Mike Love sing background vocals. (Then again, not too many people want to hear Mike Love sing, period.)Just noticed the harmonies in Shes The Woman's chorus don't sound too far off from Michael Anthony's vocals.
I'm shocked that I'm so amazed, but dear god...I honestly forgot or took for granted how ####### awesome he is. As one article I read described...he's found his fastball again. Geezus. I'll say.the guitar solos throughout this CD are incredible. I honestly think this may be approaching Fair Warning or VH1 for Ed's best work.
I agree with you 100% on the bolded.Picking this up today.
Yeah I am one of the few left who actually buys CD's. I like having a case, liner notes, lyrics etc. Plus CD's sound much better than mp3. I am a sonic audiophile nut.
Will report back. I have been a long time VH fan. And I liked everything (except VH3). I will ay I do not like the single (Tattoo) but I see the buzz and i am excited. Eddie was a major influence on my own playing early in my youth. And everything I have been reading says he is back.
For the record here are my top 5 VH albums
1) Fair Warning
2) VH 2
3) VH 1
4) 5150
5) 1984
How much do CDs actually cost these days? I get all mine from the library now.Yeah I am one of the few left who actually buys CD's.
No doubt this album rocks. And you're right, Eddie's chops are indeed phenomenal. That said, the album is light on hooks. And that was one of the things I liked about VH. Crazy guitar riffs and fun hooks. Regarding your rankings, I know 1984 gets some flack, but there's nothing on ADKOT that approaches Panama or Hot for Teacher or even I'll Wait in terms of good catchy songwriting. She's the Woman comes the closest. Still, I'm very pleased with the effort and Eddie brings it big time.Given this new album about 3 or 4 spins through, and I have to say..I love it. About 2 or 3 stinkers, but on whole, I think I'm in. Was expecting disappointment, too. But, of the DLR era, I'd put this effort only behind VHI and Fair Warning. Someone earlier characterized the band's refreshed approach as "pulverizing.". Seriously, that's an apt description. Eddie's chops are phenomenal, and I love Wolfie's emergence as a legit asset. Love Michael Anthony and still miss his presence with the band. But, Wolfie kicks some serious ### on this album.Very happy today.
