I agree with most of it so far except De La should've beaten Luda, and Redman should've beaten Talib Kweli.
yea i saw this. once i saw DMX beat Slick Rick and that BDK was a 6th seed, i was immediately turned off. their seedings are crazy!
Didn't notice that Slick Rick lost to DMX.
2Pac beats Eminem in the finals 51% to 49%.
I quit when Eminem beat Wu Tang. Ridiculous <_<

No real surprise there. Wu was never that popular as far as record sales go. They did 1.7M on Forever at a time when guys like Biggie and 2Pac were going almost 10M sold.

They reigned supreme with hip hop junkies back in the 90s but a little to raw for mainstream America. I find the American public generally has :yucky: taste as a whole.

Was thinking what type of new hip-hop draft we could do and the only "new" type I could think of would be to do something like those "Great American Culture" drafts. That is, have various categories in hip-hop music and culture history (ex. West Coast Album, Female MC, Music Video etc.). The drafters would obviously draft one choice that fills up the various categories. Then have a panel of judges critique, rank, etc. I think most of us believe that hip-hop history is deep and diverse enough to do this type of draft process.

What about a draft where you create an album? Maybe 12 song draft. Criteria could be: sales, street cred, underground, maybe include a few mixtape slots for unreleased/mixtape joints only....Something to that effect?

That can work as well. Can each song be used more than once? Or would it just be a deadline when our albums are due?

We would be drafting the songs, so once a song is picked it would be gone. We could specifically create slots(ie. 3 singles, 3 mixtape joints, 5 album cuts, 1 song for the ladies, 1 remix, 1 posse cut) or just let people craft the album as they see fit.

In addition to what you mentioned, other types of songs we could use for slots: battle songs, inspirational, storytelling, crossover.

:goodposting:

It would basically just be another song draft, but I'd do it. I like the Great American Culture style draft since it's something original. Which fits the hip-hop theme itself. No biters!

I'm in for whatever the majority side with. The song draft is still a song draft with a different twist. The other "culture" draft would encompass a lot of other aspects of hip-hop. For example, you could pick Kanye's "George Bush doesn't care about Black people" moment for Best Hip-Hop Mainstream Moment...or something to that effect. So many ways to do it.

Sacramento Bob did a great job last time. Any interest in spearheading the next hip-hop themed draft?

I'm sure there's interest out there for participants.

Let me know if I can be of any help.

I can't run another one right now, but I'd participate if we can get the details ironed out.

Just read this entire thread again from the beginning. Great #### here. Lots of discussion with cats that know their hip-hop, even if we disagree at times. I would definitely do this again. So much good #### talking in here too. :lmao:

@SacramentoBob - I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments. And I'm definitely down to get something similar up and running again. If you want to work together and get a hip-hop themed draft up and running, let's get it going! I have a lot of ideas.
