As long as he's tagging that supermodel, Garcia can play until he's 50.may need a QB too
you should be more worried about the fact that he's much more likely to slip a disc doing so.As long as he's tagging that supermodel, Garcia can play until he's 50.may need a QB too
let's be honest...who wouldn't?you should be more worried about the fact that he's much more likely to slip a disc doing so.As long as he's tagging that supermodel, Garcia can play until he's 50.may need a QB too
Nobody knows the answer to this question right now. So, you just have to go on your gut and slowly as time goes on we'll get more information. Not information as to what's out there right now, but as to how these players go after the starting job.To me, best case scenario for Caddy is for him to somehow win a RBBC position and even then he'll get dinged up somehow as he has so far in his career. How do you bench E. Graham? The guy was a horse and he can catch the ball. He had 49 catches, ran for 4.0 yards and carry and 10 TD's and didn't play a full season. What's most impressive to me is that he wasn't some systems RB where Tampa has been doing that with anyone and they just plugged in Graham. They were struggling at that position. He IS the reason they were finding success running the ball.My guess is that Graham is the guy next year. Cadillac when healthy will get some time but Graham will be your TD guy and the guy you see in when the game is one the line.Earnest Graham or Caddy?????

The E Graham issue is going to be the big one for the offseason here. Do you think he's a flash in the pan?

I think they're going to be looking for interior help on the dline. Or they'll throw the Brinks truck at Haynesworth. They do need WR help, bad.Been waiting for this to show up... Cappy, any thoughts for the draft? I've seen a couple of mocks with DeSean Jackson coming here.
Yes they do, Jeff Garcia has the arm strength of Chad Pennington's sister.may need a QB too
I think Jackson has a high %age chance to be a bust...He was far from dominant in the no-defense Pac-10 and, while explosive, he is TINY...Hard to see a 5-10/170 pound guy as a big time receiver on the NFL level...I think they're going to be looking for interior help on the dline. I don't like him much either. I'd rather see Kelly (if he drops that far) or Bowman.I think Jackson has a high %age chance to be a bust...He was far from dominant in the no-defense Pac-10 and, while explosive, he is TINY...Hard to see a 5-10/170 pound guy as a big time receiver on the NFL level...I think they're going to be looking for interior help on the dline. I think right now, they are every bit as good as the 2005 0-0 team. Bit too early to tell though.trader jake said:Burning question: Is the 2008 Bucs team a better 0-0 team than the 2007 Bucs team was at this time? :shuked:
Bowman seems too much like Clayton for my liking. Big physical kid, but they need somebody who can stretch things out. I don't think Galloway has too much gas left. That said, I don't want Jackson.bigums said:I don't like him much either. We all are. Really, he's the reason I do this every year.I look forward to Sabertooth's insights in this thread.

I agree with that completely. As far as the EG / Caddy talk... If Caddy does come back I think he eventually takes the starting job. Everyone in this town is aware of the whole Gruden, and "his guys" issue. PR had an interview with Art Valero (former rb coach) where he pretty much bashed JG the whole time. I'm not saying I agree with all of it, but he said Gruden has his idea of what kind of players he wants in his system. Gruden wants speed, and according to Art that is why it took EG so long to get his chance. Bruce and John just got extended, so I would expect them to keep doing things there way.
I really want Alge Crumpler. After seeing Garcia utilize a stud TE in the pro bowl, I realize what we currently don't have at the position. Gruden is creative enough to use both Smith & Crumpler since he likes to use 2 TE sets. Alex Smith could actually benefit to us landing a guy like Crumpler, as the O will open up where Gruden would be able to spread the ball around.http://blogs.tampabay.com/bucs/2008/02/bucs-talk-trade.html
I thought I would post this in here for anyone interested. The link discusses the Bucs' interest in Rod Coleman, Alge Crumpler, and Javon Walker.
The additions of Walker and Coleman would go a long way toward improving what most Buc fans probably feel are the weakest links on this team. DL and WR.
I'm pretty excited about the direction this organization is taking and how many of the young players were able to contribute last season. Barrett Ruud, Tanard Jackson, Gaines Adams, Davin Joseph, Arron Sears, Jeremy Trueblood, etc. I'm also waiting to see how Sabby Piscitelli returns from injury.
The Bucs seem to be just a couple playmakers/gamebreakers away from being a contender.
There's yet another free agent who'll be visiting Tampa. It is Saints receiver Devery Henderson, according to Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com.
Picking up Henderson and maybe a D.J. Hackett would vastly improve the WR position w/o breaking the bank.Kudos to the Bucs on Faine (even if they overpaid a bit)There's yet another free agent who'll be visiting Tampa. When that rumor came up Tampa was the 1st team I thought of.We still have quite a bit of money that we have to spend in order to get under the ceiling... I wonder if Gruden would want the Culpeper / Moss "package"? We have got to be one of only a hand full of teams that can afford Moss, but I think he could F up the chemistry.
Troupe is nice for depth, he'll fill Stevens' spot. Bucs lost Becht and Stevens in FA so the addition of Troupe certainly fills a depth need.Any thoughts now on Ben Troupe's value after agreeing to a 2-yr deal? Renessaince year in Gruden's offense? What does this mean for Alex Smith? I like the signing. Troupe struggled in TENN with Young so I wonder what he will do with a better passing QB. Any thoughts?
Pearson officially a Lion, Wilson deal close The Bucs failed to match the offer sheet for safety Kalvin Pearson, who officially joined the Lions Wednesday. Pearson, a restricted free agent, signed a three-year, $3.5 million offer sheet that included a $1.1 million signing bonus with the Lions last week. The Bucs had seven days to match the contract and retain Pearson, but declined. However, the Bucs are believed to be close to signing Patriots safety Eugene Wilson, who also could play cornerback. Wilson had been deciding between the Bucs and Titans.
I agree with the first two, but I'm not sure Alexander is a fit here. The quote was just funny to me -- how serious it was.Capella the Bucs next three signings will be :In Order:Eugene WilsonDJ HackettS AlexanderP.S. Why do you have that quote from the DAOC player as your sig? just curious.
Did you ask about Caddy?I had an entertaining experience yesterday with Gruden, Bruce Allen, and John Daly...got stranded in the Hooters tent with them for about 2 hours...Gruden ended up caddying for Daly the last 2 holes. Lynn Austin, 12 Hooters girls, chicken wings, beer, and total chaos...
And here's an article about Douglas from last year. Starting to love that signing. When you consider they re-upped Kiffin, it's been a fantastic off-season.They walked into Macy's at the start of free agency with $44 million and made one big purchase. Then, Bruce Allen and Jon Gruden collected a massive amount of change and left.We don't see or hear much from Allen and Gruden this time of year (after all, they grew up in the Raiders' bunker mentality), but it's not hard to figure out where they've been the past couple of weeks. They moved on to Target and Wal-Mart, and they're going to keep right on shopping. It took a few years for them to really figure out their approach to free agency. But Gruden, the coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Allen, the general manager, developed a plan that worked well last year, and they're sticking with an approach that makes a lot of sense.Aside from making Jeff Faine, formerly of New Orleans, the league's highest-paid center at the start of free agency, the Bucs have been bargain shoppers. They've been one of the league's most active teams, but it seems that they mainly are stocking up on canned goods for the winter.Part of that has to do with the fact the Bucs and a lot of other teams viewed this free-agent class as one of the weakest ever because so many teams locked up their own players with new contracts or the franchise tag. But a bigger part of this philosophy might be that it worked so nicely last year. That's when the Bucs refused to spend more than $3 million on any one signing bonus as they brought in the likes of quarterback Jeff Garcia, fullback B.J. Askew, linebacker Cato June, defensive end Kevin Carter and defensive end/linebacker Patrick Chukwurah. Only Chukwurah, who was hurt much of the year, didn't work out as envisioned. The rest of the free agents all played key roles as the Bucs won the NFC South. That hasn't always been the approach for Gruden and Allen. Take their free agency class of 2004. They paid big money for aging tackle Todd Steussie, running back Charlie Garner and tackle Derrick Deese. Those moves turned out to be disastrous, and the salary cap implications ran deep for a couple of years. But the Bucs learned their lesson, and what they have done in the past few weeks may help them become the first team in NFC South history to win back-to-back division titles. They gave Faine a $37 million deal that was the largest contract ever given by the franchise to an outsider, but not a lot of risk is there. Faine already has established himself as one of the league's better centers and might be the ingredient that makes a good offensive line great. There's far less risk with all the other free-agent signings because the Bucs are taking a very safe approach, spending wisely and buying in bulk.Instead of putting all their stock into one big-name player (with a big contract) at any position, the Bucs are stockpiling reasonably-priced guys just about everywhere. But the philosophy is especially obvious at the skill positions.Take running back, for example. The Bucs already had Earnest Graham, last year's leading rusher. They re-signed Michael Bennett, a backup, and Cadillac Williams told reporters last week that his injured knee is progressing and he hopes to play in 2008. But that didn't stop the Bucs from going out and signing Warrick Dunn, who'd played for the team for five years before leaving for Atlanta in the 2002 offseason. Dunn's 33, but at worst is a very good third-down back. At best, if Williams isn't ready, Dunn will compete with Graham and Bennett until one of them steps forward as the feature back. By the way, the Bucs still have interest in re-signing Michael Pittman, who also could fit into that competition.Or take tight end, where Alex Smith is safe as the starter. But the Bucs weren't content to sit still. They went out and signed Chicago's John Gilmore, whom they plan to use as a blocking specialist, and Ben Troupe, who could slide into the starting role if anything happens to Smith. But, more than any position, take quarterback for a read on how the Bucs believe in stocking the pantry to its limits. Garcia went to the Pro Bowl last season. The Bucs also think they've got a couple of young prospects in Luke McCown and Bruce Gradkowski. The Bucs went out and traded for Chicago's Brian Griese, a former Tampa Bay starter. Then, there's Chris Simms. He's a former starter, but hasn't played since having his spleen removed in 2006. There's hope that Simms will be healthy enough to play this season, but that hasn't stopped the Bucs from reportedly trying to talk Jake Plummer, whose rights they hold, out of retirement. The approach has been similar on defense, as the Bucs signed linebackers Leon Joe, Matt McCoy and Teddy Lehman, ends Marques Douglas and Jimmy Wilkerson and defensive back Eugene Wilson. And the Bucs aren't done. They have some interest in defensive tackle Rod Coleman and fullback Chris Wilson. They'll pitch the fact that the Bucs are a winning team, and living in Florida (no state income tax) isn't so bad, either. But, if the Bucs don't get Coleman and Wilson, they'll just move to the next guys on their list. Gruden and Allen have made it clear they're not going to overspend. They'll use some of that salary cap space to lock up some of their own guys (Garcia, Askew and cornerback Phillip Buchanon are likely candidates for contract extensions).Sure, there's nothing flashy here. But too many teams make the mistake of thinking they're one player away from the Super Bowl, then get that guy and come up short. The Bucs may look like they're just throwing a bunch of darts. But if you keep on throwing, you're going to hit some bull's-eyes.
Marques Douglas: Best Player No One KnowsPosted Oct 18th 2007 7:51PM by Michael David SmithFiled under: 49ers, San FranciscoSan Francisco 49ers defensive end Marques Douglas is both an outstanding player and an anonymous player. How outstanding is he? Douglas ranks second in the league in stuffs, an unofficial but useful statistic measuring tackles at or behind the line of scrimmage on running plays. (For some reason, defensive ends who stop quarterbacks behind the line of scrimmage are celebrated, but defensive ends who stop running backs behind the line of scrimmage are ignored.)And how anonymous is he? Even when he's praised, he's slighted. Paul Zimmerman of Sports Illustrated wrote that he's an All-Pro candidate, adding, "Douglas is going so hard and at such a furious pace that I wonder whether or not he'll be able to keep it up all season." Except that while lavishing praise on Douglas, Zimmerman mis-stated his first name, calling him "Maurice."The only person I've seen praise Douglas while calling him by his correct name is my FanHouse colleague JJ Cooper, who called him The Great Unknown. So there you have it, Marques. We love you here at FanHouse, even if the rest of the football world doesn't even know your name.
Where does that stand now? I haven't seen anything since Friday's rumor...If the Jason Taylor trade goes through this D is going to be nasty. They were #2 last year, and they just got a top notch CB, and someone to help pressure the QB.
Haven't hard anything. I thought D-line was a priority, but the weeks leading up to the draft I heard Jovan Haye's name being thrown around in trade rumors. So if they were willing to part with him, maybe they felt comfortable along the line... Maybe I'm just delusional in thinking we will find another Warren Sapp one day...Where does that stand now?
