UDFA -- Homeless Rookies (1 Viewer)

Chaos Commish

Footballguy
List anyone you thought would be drafted or wonder where he may end up.

WRs --Maurice Purify, Darius Reynaud, Adarius Bowman, the Hawaii trio

QBs --Bernard Morris, Paul Smith

Always a few RBs -- Green Ellis, Callender, Temple, Lumpkin, Woodhead, Simpson, Savage...

A team who needs a beast on the DL should take a look at Jonal Saint-Dic from Michigan St. He was ineligible at the end of the year, but dominated much of last season.

I'm sure Maurice Crum LB - Notre Dame will end up in someone's camp too.

From the Draft Thread:

Tommy Blake (DE TCU) would have been a first rounder last year. Comes back his senior year, goes into a deep depression, gets a little flaky, goes undrafted. I know the kid is on meds now and should be much better. I bet he makes a roster.

Marcus Dixon (DE Hampton) gets screwed by the justice system and it costs him being drafted. I hope he catches on somewhere.

Marcus Dixon's long, hard journey to the NFL had to wait until after the draft. But it is over.

He was signed by Dallas as an undrafted free agent, shortly after the drat ended, according to his agent Joe Linta.

I wish nothing but good luck for this kid who has had so much bad during his short life.

Heck the Vikings will have to start cutting players before camp starts with that many players coming.
Since they didn't have a 7th round pick, the Vikings must have spent a lot of time on the phone getting the UFA's interested in signing quickly after the draft.

I'm sure they wouldn't break any rules
Is that against the rules? I know the Chadron State kid was on the phone (clearly with a team) before the draft was over.-QG

Purify talking with 4 different teams; Dallas and Green Bay the only two named.

Link

“Of all the players I have ever represented, I have never been more shocked,” said Gary Glick, Purify’s agent, who owns Synergy Sports in Dallas. “I anticipated him getting drafted pretty early. And what’s frustrating to hear is this excuse, these ‘off-the-field issues’ that just aren’t true.”

Now, as an un-drafted free agent, Purify and his agent must get to work to find the perfect fit before rookie mini camps begin next weekend, something Glick is already on top of.

“Right now we’re taking conference calls with four teams,” he said. “So we’re still looking to get him a free-agent contract within the next day or so, and we’ve gotten a positive response from a few teams. It’s just disappointing he didn’t get to have his name called. He worked so hard. He deserved it.”

Purify, who watched the draft unfold at his mother’s house in Eureka with a large group of close friends and family, said he was disappointed by the outcome, but knows the journey is far from over, and looks forward to making a deal.

“It’s all good,” he said. “Right now we’re just trying to work out some deals and get me on a team. My agent’s talked to Green Bay and Dallas and a couple of other teams, and we’re just making calls and hoping for the best. That’s all you can do.”
I would be perfectly happy to see him in Dallas. That's how Mile Austin made the roster, and Purify is a better prospect.

Purdue's productive WR, Dorien Bryant, going to Pittsburgh. He's a good special teamer. Good competition for Willie Reid if nothing else.

One of my favorite players in the draft, a safety from TCU, David Roach, is a Saint for now. That's a nice spot for him. I'm pretty confident that he'll stick.

Ben Moffitt, a talented ILB, is in Houston. His teammate a once promising WR, Amarri Jackson, is in Tampa Bay.

UCLA RB Chris Markey, who once legitimately had MJD in an RBBC, suffered a season ending knee injury after looking like a late second day prospect for most of his career. The coach who would bench Drew for him, Eric Bienemy, has invited Markey to Minnesota where he'll have a decent shot at earning a roster or practice squad role as long as the knee is good to go. Bienemy loves Markey. Used to make me nuts when Drew was on the sidelines, but Markey was good too.

Danny Lansanah signed with Green Bay.

:bag: I grew up in Hampton so I got to read quite a bit about him. Seems like good kid and has stayed out of trouble. Why the "experts" would label him as a character concern I don't know.
Vince Hall, LB, VT needs a good home.
:bag: I've watched alot of Vince and dude is an great football player. I was really surprised he didn't get drafted. :lmao:
No idea why he'd go undrafted.

Hall is a Ram for now...St Louis reported signing the following...

FB Brandon McAnderson, Kansas

OG Stephen Sene, Liberty

CB Justin McKinney, Kansas State

LB Vince Hall, Virginia Tech

LB Marc Magro, West Virginia

RB Yvenson Bernard, Oregon State

FB Doug Jones, Cincinnati

DT Josh Thompson, Auburn

WR Matt Caddell, Alabama

WR Joshua Hyman, Virginia Tech

DT Vernon Bryant, Hampton

DE Rodney Hardeway, Louisiana Lafayette

When these players get signed to UDFA deals - does that assure them survival of the rookie mini camps or does it just count as an invitation to it?

49ers give Cameron Colvin and Robert Jordan a shot.

OLB Ezra Butler, Nevada

TE Joe Jon Finley, Oklahoma

WR Cameron Colvin, Oregon

WR Robert Jordan, California

DE Louis Holmes, Arizona (OLB)

OL Brian De La Puente, California

Finley and Butler were also considered probable 2nd day picks. Jordan had the bad fortune of being behind DeSean and Hawkins at Cal, but he had some nice games anyway, and capped it off with a nice Pro Day. Colvin is my favorite story in the draft. 5 years ago he was ranked the #2 WR in the country behind Calvin Johnson., ahead of Dwayne Bowe and Sidney Rice. But he could not ever get and stay healthy. It was an almost surreal four years. He finally got on the field early this season, had his best game ever and broke his ankle. Great great kid. Great attitude. Who knows how accurate the old assessment of his talent was, but SF will find out.

The rest of the Cardinals

OL Hercules Satele, Hawaii'

DL Keilen Dykes, West Virginia

T Thaddeus Coleman, Mississippi Valley State

QB Anthony Morelli, Penn State

DL Bryan Robinson, Wesley College

OG Carlton Medder, Florida

FB Dionte Johnson, Ohio State

S Dennis Keyes, U.C.L.A.

OT Thaddeus Coleman, NW Mississippi St

LB Ali Highsmith, LSU

Just an invite with a paycheck and some bennies the guys who just show up to try out don't get. Nothing is guaranteed. They can be cut at any time.

Da Bears

QB Nick Hill, Southern Illinois

WR Curtis Hamilton, Western Kentucky

CB Trey Brown, U.C.L.A.

RB Chris Markey, U.C.L.A.

QB Caleb Hanie, Colorado State

CB Leslie Majors, Indiana

LB Joe Clermond, Pittsburgh

DT David Faaeteete, Oregon

DE Nick Osborn, San Diego State

WR Ashton Gronewold, Missouri Science & Technology (try out)

Gronewald is an example of a kid getting a try out... not signing a UDFA deal.

So basically, teams will sign some of these guys before the rookie camp and throw some money at them just to assure that they [the team] get first crack at them?

Kregg Lumpkin, who I argued would not be drafted, is a Packer.

Interesting player. If he shows up healthy, DeShawn Wynn will have an enemy.

The Giants

DE Wallace Gilberry, Alabama

FS Nehemiah Warrick, Michigan State

OT Glenn Bujnoch, Cincinnati

DE Antonio Reynolds, Tennessee

OG Andrew Bain, Miami

OT Dylan Thiry, Northwestern

OT Carnell Stewart, L.S.U.

WR D.J. Hall, Alabama

Hall has put up huge numbers for a few years and tore up Chevis Jackson and LSU more than once. Not a bad prospect. He has character problems so maybe Manningham can mentor him a little on how to be a professional in rookie camp.

Redskins

OG Kerry Brown, Appalachian State

OT Shannon Boatman, Florida State

OT Devin Clark, New Mexico

CB Matterral Richardson, Arkansas

QB Bret Meyer, Iowa State

SS Kevin Mitchell, Illinois

OC Kyle Devan, Oregon State

DE Dorian Smith, Oregon State

WR Horace Gant, Olaf

Yep. They have a roster limit (80 I think), so these are considered priority free agents.
