Who signs Ray Rice (1 Viewer)

Indy has already said they are not interested.
IIRC, they also said they weren't interested in Ben Tate a couple hours before they put a WW claim in on him.
I don't recall reading that anywhere. Link? Either way, the Colts don't sign players with Rice's baggage.
PFFT, save me the Colts homerism. Remember Dominic Rhodes? Beat his live in girlfriend, was placed in the diversionary program to avoid prosecution. Colts kept him on the team until the DUI. Plenty of Colts in trouble the past few years.

I don't think anyone signs him until the offseason. Playoff teams don't want to deal with this media mess for a bellow average RB at this point. People seem to forget a Rice was terrible before this all went down anyway.

Schefter:

At least four teams have looked into signing recently-reinstated RB Ray Rice, including Indianapolis and New Orleans, though the Colts are not expected to pursue him, per multiple league sources.
The Saints -- fighting for first place in the NFC South, with multiple banged-up running backs, in a city that would not be overly concerned what NFL commissioner Roger Goodell thinks...

A few things:

(1) People keep on mentioning his deteriorating play -- I'll just say I disagree -- Rice was known to have a continual hip issue all of last year which affected him the whole season. People who watch BAL games will also be able to tell you that their OL play (when even somewhat healthy) was horrendous and continually allowed DLers into the backfield, not allowing any RB on the roster to do anything.

(2) The above being said... I highly doubt anyone touches him this season with one exception Detroit -- Caldwell was Rice's OC last season, and Detroit needs RB depth... especially a RB that can catch since Stafford has has protection problems and needs and an add'l outlet valve with Bush/TE's generally ailing the whole season. This is the first season in a while that DET has been in the hunt this late in the year. Indy woul;d also be a possibility other than the fact that Indiana is more conservative socially than most places.

(3) Rice still probably won't be signed until next season at which point you can roll the dice on where he goes.
Last season Detroit about had a playoff spot locked up at this point.

Commish has probably sent the word down to the franchises: no one allowed to pickup Rice. Same as continued suspension, regardless of appeal win.
Hi risk. MLB paid $280 million in damages (1980s money) and completely unified the players when they got caught colluding.
Ray Rice is good enough to be picked up by now. If he is not signed, I am sure it is because of Goodell.

To my knowledge other than this incident he has a very clean history and seems to be well respected by all that have been around him during high school, college and in the NFL...
A friend of mine worked as a bouncer near Rutgers and would occasionally see Rice come around from time to time. He said Rice always came off as a d-bag who demanded respect and special treatment from everyone he met because he was so high on who he was even back then. I doubt the fame and million dollar paydays that came to follow since then have aided him in learning any lessons of humility leading up to the TKO of his wife.

Then again, these days he may not be so proudly walking around proclaiming, "Do you know who I am?" to every unsuspecting, average Joe who is just doing his job....

It is a rough life for those that cannot forgive and forget

It is pretty intolerable what Rice did. I still think what Vick did, outside of murderers in the NFL, is the most heinous crime. Many of those dog fighting rings kidnap dogs right out of people's backyards then throw them in the pen as training dogs. Then they end up in a mass grave after being taken from their families, alone, scared and defenseless. For all intents and purposes Vick has tried to redeem himself. I don't see why Rice wouldn't be afforded the same opportunity. People should be aware of what low life scum those rings really are though.

The New Orleans Saints have no interest in bringing in running back Ray Rice, FOX NFL Sunday insider Jay Glazer reports.
http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/ray-rice-new-orleans-saints-zero-interest-113014

Also from that short article:

The reality is Rice doesn't play a position of premium and has plenty of tread on his tires. Teams must weigh the production value on the field versus the off-the-field circus.

One head coach said, according to Glazer, that he didn't want anything to do with Rice because it would alienate the female fan base. Glazer did note, however, that Rice plans to try to clean up his public image this week.
That's badly written. There's no way Ray Rice is dumb enough to think he can clean up his public image this week.

So Goodell is able to tell his bosses what they can't do?

The franchise is not owned by the franchisees.

My personal feeling is no grabs him until next year.

Indy - is going to make the playoffs, ivthinkbthey would rather roll with Trent and Boom. This makes the most sense though.

Detriot - I really don't think they need a back, the problem isn't Bell it is the line and we seen what Rice looks like behind a crappy line. I also think the Lions are very deep at running back. Bell is solid, Bush is a play maker when healthy, Riddick has filled in for Bush very well and Winn looked solid the one game Bell was hurt.

Arizona - Ellington isn't 100 percent and probably won't be for the rest of year, but the writing is on the wall for the Cardinals, their Super Bowl run left when Palmer went down for the year.

Arizona is in a pickle with Ellington (sucks, I am an ff owner). His foot is not going to heal until after the season (playing through turf toe IMO). Check out his last four weeks:

STL - 18 rushes for 23 yards, 1.3 ypc

DET - 19 rushes for 42 yards, 2.2 ypc

SEA - 10 rushes for 24 yards, 2.4 ypc

ATL - 5 rushes for 12 yards, 2.4 ypc

Those are really, really bad numbers for a team that is trying to seal the division with their starting QB out for the year. They will need more from the ground game or they could miss the playoffs entirely. For those of you that have never had a hip pointer, it feels like a broken rib. It hurts to breathe, let alone carry the rock. It is a mistake for Arizona to continue rolling him out there as the starting RB.

As for Indy, I like Boom and think he deserves a shot to carry the team into the playoffs. However, if anyone can forgive and forget, it should be Irsay as that guy is a train wreck.

I can't see a team doing it this year that is a playoff contender. Too much media distraction. I would never sign him right now if I were a GM.

Wait till the off-season if you want him.

I don't feel he gets signed this year and I'm not sure he plays ever again. There is a lot of RB talent in the NFL so why take on the distraction?

No, but fostering communication between the owners is probably part of his job. He's probably the guy that can make sure that communication is in place for the twenty-eight or so owners who have no interest in him reminding four of them not to go rogue.

Anyway, I picked him up, but I don't think anybody signs this guy. Arizona or Indy might, as it makes the most sense right now. NO doesn't make sense.

Camp body next year - that's what I see.

I think any comeback will be of the Larry Johnson variety.

Running back is just too fungible of a position now and teams are almost always looking to get younger at the position.

On Tuesday, five running backs had tryouts with NFL teams. None were Ray Rice.

Per a league source, the Browns worked out Shaun Draughn, the Colts kicked tires on Mikel Leshoure, the Giants worked out Dion Lewis and Chris Ogbonnaya (they signed Ogbonnaya), and Washington gave a tryout to Terrance Cobb.

No specific team has been linked to Rice, despite reports that a handful of teams are interested.

More than a year after their violent Valentines Day incident made headlines, Ray and Janay Rice are speaking out about the night that changed their lives forever. In an interview with New York magazine, Janay revealed that Rays priorities became a bit distorted and he was all about his NFL career as their relationship progressed.

Football came before everything and everyone, Janay recalled.

While she admits that she understood Ray being career focused, it did present a strain in their relationship.

It was definitely frustrating. It was hard knowing I wasnt his first priority, she explained.

According to the 27-year-old, things intensified once she gave birth to their daughter, Rayven, who didnt sleep much at the time.

I felt I was doing everything by myself, Janay said. After a while, I resented that. I felt like a walking zombie. I told Ray he needed to change more diapers.

Though she voiced her concerns, Ray only came up with more excuses to stay away from home, including booking charity engagements on his only day off.

I get home, Im spent, he recalled. Theres no time to talk. I got practice the next day.

Ray went on to say that things worsened and communication came to a halt.

It got to the point where if she had an issue, I would basically just go silent, he said. There wasnt a lot of yelling, screaming, nothing. I would just wake up, go to practice. Then game day gets here. Id rush for three touchdowns. The familys over at the house. Shes still got that problem shes thinking about. And I think, I scored three touchdowns today. Everythings all right.

Thats not what a man does, Janay recalled telling him. I know what a man is supposed to be. I know how a man acts in a relationship. I know what a father is. I experienced it.

The night of the fight, Janay recalls wanting to spend time with her then fiancé, but instead he chose to partake in a group celebration with his half-brother, his girlfriend and another couple at the Revel Casino.

It was an annoyance to me, Janay said. I was a little perturbed, though I didnt communicate that to him.

Instead, she stayed silent for the entire three-hour car ride to Atlantic City, New Jersey. After having a few drinks, the couple began bickering.

We were drunk and tired, Janay said.

Eventually, the altercation took a violent turn and Ray knocked Janay unconscious in the hotel elevator.

Ma, I made a huge mistake, Ray recalled a text message he sent to his mother. Im probably going to go to jail tonight.

And of course, we know how the rest of the story unfolded. Apparently, the interview is a part of Rays attempts to redeem himself and clean up his image in hopes that an NFL team will pick him up for the 2015 season.

But hitting a four year old with a branch is just fine....
If ray rice could still play he would be in the league. Hes done so it dont matter
i don't get why people keep saying this. He was in a new system and was overweight in a down year where he didn't get that many tds. He still caught over 50 passes. I think he gets a bad rap because of his low ypc but the online STUNK that year. Maybe he finds a home after the draft. Then again maybe he's too much of a headache

He's safe to drop in your dynasty league.

The Jags immediately signed Pierce after he was cut and no one has had interest in Rice. He's done.

I think it's more complicated than that. I bet many teams are very reticent to sign him due to potential public relations backlash.

While he's much closer to the end than his prime, I bet he can still play. I just think teams realize at this stage that they can find a younger, newer version that can replicate Rice's production, most importantly, without all the baggage.

Exactly

Does anyone have any insight on the cleveland browns and their talks with ray rice? What are the chances rice gets signed? It's getting a little late in training camp. Anyone in dynasty leagues holding onto him?

Just a matter of time...a lot easier to sign him during the season when there is more white noise to distract the media...less of a PR risk IMHO.

Does anybody think somebody will sign him?
I do.
is the shark move grabbing him off waivers now and holding?
I think the shark move is picking him up in week 1 or week 2, so you can wait to see how your roster plays out. After a few weeks dump the trash and pick him up...odds are he'll be available.

He probably won't get signed until some of the RBs drop to injury...but it's going to happen.

He might not last that long

Rice is like the plague. I'm convinced that there's some sort of black-list on the guy.

I'm not saying what he did wasn't serious, but he's far from the only guy with a domestic abuse rap...He just happened to be the guy with a highly publicized and video taped incident that made the league's handling of the issues look like the Keystone Cops. It's not fair (relative to what has happened to others) for him, but I think at this point, he's done. He's been out of the game for too long at his age and after a down season for a team to justify the PR risk of signing him. This isn't Ray in his prime anymore...It's basically like signing Ahmad Bradshaw (if that...) with a HUGE PR hit.

The second Bradshaw and his laundry list of injuries signs before Rice, you can stamp "confirmed" on the blackball-list sitting in Goodell's office.
