Just did a quick search and it's being covered by every significant Cincy-area media outlet that there is, with coverage from Evansville too. CPD are calling it a hate crime, it's being charged as one apparently, and the victim was treated and released from a local hospital the same night.

So I'm guessing the complaint is that national media don't have the story. A strange gripe. The incident was horrifying, but when you're covering the entire country and in fact (since you mentioned CNN) the entire planet, an incident like this probably gets considered and doesn't quite make the cut for coverage, simply based on other news, the lack of fatalities, and other factors that have absolutely nothing to do with the racial characteristics of the perpetrators. In fact, considering the size of the United States, I'm confident that some groups of whites did get into altercations with some smaller groups of blacks this weekend somewhere in the country, but I have no problem with the fact that CNN didn't provide a blow-by-blow roundup of each incident.

It's not a news story when 40 black people beat an innocent white man to within an inch of his life because he apparently bumped into someone? Really?And it is not being prosecuted as a hate crime. I'm listening to the police press conference right now. They specifically said no hate crime charges at this time. They don't know what happened, and to be honest they really don't want to talk about it either. All they are saying at the PC is how great the Police are and how safe the city is.

Finally, DAs don't always make decisions within 48 hours as to whether or not to charge assaults (or anything for that matter) as hate crimes, because those are almost always "enhancements" to other crimes that don't necessarily increase bail at arraignment, and they sometimes require more than initial investigation before the determination can be made. So I wouldn't get too disturbed about that just yet either.

Police initially classified it is an "anti-white hate crime", but have since backed away from that, without any reason given. I saw the press conference today and they all looked really squirrelly. No doubt they are sweeping this under the carpet with the All-Star Game looming.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reported Cincinnati Police Captain Mike Neville on Monday backed away from the anti-white classification of the attack.

The assault on a man near Fountain Square on Saturday night was incorrectly described as an anti-white crime in the official police incident report, Cincinnati Police Capt. Mike Neville said Monday.

Christopher McKnight, 27, was jumped on and beaten by a group of people that moved over from the unruly crowd that gathered on Fountain Square around 11:30 p.m. An incident report released Monday said the assault was an anti-white hate/bias crime.

Neville said the investigation is ongoing and does not believe the assault was a hate crime at a Monday news conference.

Fireworks, rock, bottles and punches were thrown at officers, injuring two policemen. Seven people were arrested including three juveniles.

The riot took place following a hip hop and electronica Fourth of July concert in Cincinnatis downtown tourist district. A Reds baseball game nearby was letting out at the same time.

Cincinnati will be hosting Major League Baseballs All Star Game a week from Tuesday.

Seven people were arrested during the incident on Fountain Square. Its unclear if any of the arrested are directly related to McKnights assault.

An anonymous Cincinnati police officer said online that the white man was attacked by about forty Black people and that police had to rescue the man from the mob.

So then we form into riot formation with helmets on and begin passing out the shields. Honestly this was the first time I got to partake in this. So we see ahead a scuffle begin and think its just a fight. Well not so much, it was like 40 v. 1. I saw 40 v. 1, it was 40 black youths stomping the crap out of one unlucky male white. He didnt do anything to deserve this beating except be white. Im going to skip all the rhetoric and just say dont we all matter??? This just pissed us all off. Time to rescue or at least try to get these thugs off of him. So we were sent in with shields and arrest team to do a victim rescue. Feel bad for the guy since he nor anyone deserved a beat down like that for no reason

A photo by WLWT-TV shows Cincinnati police forming a protective ring around race riot beating victim Christopher McKnight as paramedics tended to him Saturday night.

WLWT also reported a second video exists showing the victim, who is reportedly from New Albany, Indiana involved in a fight with a Black man.

Parts of the assault appear to have been captured on at least two videos that have been shared repeatedly on social media.

One video appears to show McKnight, who is white, fighting with an unidentified black man at the Metro station at Government Square.

At some points in the video, some people approach to strike at one of the men, while other people try to separate the two. The video ends after everyone involved moves out of camera range.

The second video appears to take place after the fight ended, with McKnight laying on the ground, apparently unconscious. Several people are surrounding McKnight, some laughing, some appearing to try to help him.

I think the real story here is that a Cincinatti hospital releases people who are in critical condition, half dead, due to being nearly beaten to death!!! Faux News Channel has said NOTHING about this. Not one word. Rant, rant!!!! Outrage!!! Conspiracy!!! Media bias!!!!

Now if the cops had shot one of the attackers, THEN we would have a story....

WAY too much speculating going on in this thread. Nobody knows what led to the fight, and I'm sure the cops and prosecutors are sorting it out before leveling charges. Perhaps everyone should just calm down before labeling it a hate crime.

...and it looked like it was mainly one guy beating him (with a buddy or two jumping in occasionally with a punch or a kick) - I also saw other people pulling the extra people jumping in off of the guy as well. Is there a video that shows 40 people beating him?

For those a little slow on the uptake, and there are many of them it appears, I think it's safe to assume that there's another portion of the fight that wasn't caught on video.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were a bunch of people beating on him, but at the halfway point of the video he clearly looks like he is coming back for more...

This is a classic case of one dude yelling at a group of 20 "Hey!!! Do you know who I am? Do you know who you're ####### with???"

At that point he should've walked the #### away, which looked like it was certainly an option, unless there was some sort of invisible dog fence we can't see...

If you want to steer the conversation back to your original point, I have no problem with that. But it is disingenuous, at best, to continually exaggerate the facts then use the exaggerations to support your main point. That is all.

As for McKinney, no correlation and bad analogy. McKinney didn't make the news because a bunch of whites beat up a black girl. No. It was the cop slinging a teenage girl around (and doing an awesome barrel role) and, even then, only made headlines because it followed a series of stories about police roughing up minorities. You seem to have an agenda here.

My sympathy for the guy is lacking and he is lucky he escaped with no major injuries. I was walking up Fulton Street with my sleeping kid in a stroller a month ago. Some shirtless goon comes up to me demanding/asking me to buy his demo, I say no thanks, don't listen to his pitch, and keep walking. With my back turned while I'm walking away, I hear him mutter "come around here when the sun goes down" - He was with a group of kids all 14-18, prob about 12 of them standing around. The one kid was all of 5'6, 135ish - I'm almost 6'2 and every bit of the 220 I weigh. You know what I did (and I would've done the same thing without my kid)? I kept walking, didn't turn around and got a good chuckle from it. Even if it was just him, if that was all he said, I'd prob still have kept walking - I'm a grown man with way too much positive in my life and the cons far outweigh the pros of getting into a fistfight for someone making a stupid comment or bumping into me. People can call me a punk all they want, unless someone lays their hands on me, I really don't give a #### at this point.

Certain times (like this one) it is best to act like a grown up and walk the #### away instead of trying to take on a group of people.

If you're looking for a racial dividing story, I'm sure there are much better ones than what was presented in the OP.

Got it. Blame the victim. I think that's now the 4th time you've done that in this thread. He shouldn't have fought back. I've got a real cool video to show you of many other violent confrontations where the person cowered or tried to get away. The success rate on that isn't always great either. But please, keep blaming the victim. By the way, you do know that the police also referred to him as "an innocent victim" in their reports. I assume that's because they are white racists, right?

My sympathy for the guy is lacking and he is lucky he escaped with no major injuries. I was walking up Fulton Street with my sleeping kid in a stroller a month ago. Some shirtless goon comes up to me demanding/asking me to buy his demo, I say no thanks, don't listen to his pitch, and keep walking. With my back turned while I'm walking away, I hear him mutter "come around here when the sun goes down" - He was with a group of kids all 14-18, prob about 12 of them standing around. The one kid was all of 5'6, 135ish - I'm almost 6'2 and every bit of the 220 I weigh. You know what I did (and I would've done the same thing without my kid)? I kept walking, didn't turn around and got a good chuckle from it. Even if it was just him, if that was all he said, I'd prob still have kept walking - I'm a grown man with way too much positive in my life and the cons far outweigh the pros of getting into a fistfight for someone making a stupid comment or bumping into me. People can call me a punk all they want, unless someone lays their hands on me, I really don't give a #### at this point.

Certain times (like this one) it is best to act like a grown up and walk the #### away instead of trying to take on a group of people.

Another thing - when I hear a story like the one you mention above I first respond by saying, "That's really ####ty that some ####### would do something like that". That's the story - not how you chose to respond or not respond.We've gotten so brainwashed into excusing bad behaviors in this country if they are linked to a minority that we've lost all relativity as to what's really right and wrong. Our moral compasses have been erased.

Just a fight.You know the difference between life and death in one of these fights? Chance. That's it. I know of a fight where it was one punch. Guy fell to the ground, hit his head the wrong way and died.

If you can watch the video of him on the ground and conclude that it wasn't a severe beating then I don't know what to tell you.

You claimed he almost died and was beaten half to death or within an inch of his life. You went over the top because you are a biased hack when it comes ti things like this.

The guy wasn't beaten by 40 guys and suffered injuries so bad he was teleased from the hospital.

It was a beating during a fight...its not national news to most people except those on the faux outrage train mad about race relations.

Uh, in my opinion it was a severe beating. And when I wrote the inch of his life comment it was before the story was clarified. At that point in time the report I read said that he was in critical condition. And it was a cop at the scene who reported a mob of 40 people beating on one person. That fact has been pointed out about 3 times already if you cared to read the thread.But keep engaging in semantics and silly arguments that have nothing to do with the broader issue. Was it 38? 39? Was it an inch of his life or two? Way to miss the forest through the trees, chief. But that's what you do when you don't like the look of the forest.

I watched the press conference today. There was definite concern in the room with the Police and Mayor's office. It was really awkward at times. I don't know much about Cincy but it does seem to be a bit of a hotbed for racial tensions. Maybe some locals can comment on it?

And the supposed cop at the scene is unidentified and has remained anonymous - there is no proof that this is really a cop and/or that he actually said that. Has anyone, anywhere, come forward to verify his claim of the 40 attackers on 1 scenario? It is not backed up by the video evidence we have seen so far or other witness testimony I am aware of (if you have it please provide the links, until then, his testimony remains suspect).

Yeah, that's one of my central points in all of this. Without legitimate media coverage we don't have anything to go on other than Conservative blog sites that I agree lack 100% credibility. So let's investigate it. Where is CNN? The police incident report calls it an "anti-white hate crime", and the videos I have seen sure do scream hate crime.By the way squis, like most things today some of the best news can be found in the social media accounts from people who posted at the time and were there. I read a few this morning where I was pretty clear that at least two blacks who were at the scene described it as a hate crime and that they ganged up on him because he was white. Look for yourself.
