Salary Cap Dynasty League (1 Viewer)

Voice Of Reason

My league is looking to shake things up dramatically and go to a dynasty league with a salary cap. The initial draft will be auction style with the prices determining the contacts values for each player.

I haven't come up with a good way of determining the length of a contact, aside from making all contacts a set amount of years. I also am having trouble determining any penalty for cutting a player or whether or not any escalators for a player greatly overperforming hte value of his contract.

Does anyone have a league with these type of rules or suggestions because I'd really like to be able to get all the kinks out before we begin.

As far as contract length, we have a contract years cap in addition to the salary cap.

For cutting player, we have a 10% of their salary for each year they are under contact, plus an additional 10% for the current year's salary.

We don't have escalators for player playing over their contract, other than rookies. Players drafted in the annual rookie draft have a salary based on their position and draft slot that is relatively cheap, but the top X of each position each year earn a bonus depending on their year end ranking at their position.

Average of $10 per roster spot. 45 players minimum, 55 players maximum allowed. 26 starters (1 QB, 2 RB, 4 WR, 2 TE, 1 flex QB/RB, 1 flex WR/TE, full 4-3 defense, coach, kicker, punter, kick return). Staggered reception points, .25 RB, .5 WR, 1 TE. Makes the positions very even... last year the top 3 players were a RB, WR, and TE, and they were neck and neck. The year before it was Peyton at #1 and then a TE, RB, and 2 WR.

$500 hard salary cap. 3 year contracts. Option after year 2 to give a contract extension... 1 additional year (making it a 4 year contract) is a 20% raise that hits in year 3 (minimum of $5). 2 additional years is a 40% raise that hits in year 3 (minimum of $10). After a player's contract is up, there is a franchise tag and 2 transition tags that can be used to match the winning bid or receive compensation (two 1sts for franchise, a 2nd for transition).

Rookie's are obtained in a draft so the worst teams get earlier picks. Rookie salaries are determined by taking how many players start at that position, ranking them by salary, and averaging the bottom half of starters. So since 24 RBs start, a 1st round rookie RB has a salary equal to the average of the 13th to 24th highest paid RBs. Flex spots count as QB and WR in that calculation. Mimimum of $6 for offensive players and $3 for all others in the first round. Salaries drop by 1/3 each round until they hit $1 for all players in round 4.

No salary penalty for cutting players, but if you give an extension you can't cut them until after year 3. Players on IR count full toward the cap. Free agents picked up via auction in the preseason, and via blind bidding waivers in the regular season. Cap room cannot be traded. Player contracts cannot be redone during a trade. Contracts are changed only when the player is given a rise or when the player is cut from a team.
