Sheffler- Why so inconsistent? (1 Viewer)

Sheffler seems to be an all or nothing option at TE, he either puts up a very good week for a TE OR he's virtually non-existant. Do the Broncos use him differently from game to game, or is he just an inconsistent performer. If he's used differently from game to game, I'm wondering what if any pattern there is. Any Broncos homers with any insight?

It's the groin problem.

You know, like when you go to a bar. Sometimes you score, sometimes you don't. Sometimes you get a lot of yards, but still don't score.

You need to be on the field and need to be thrown the ball. Denver has 3 tight ends too.

It depends on the gameplan. Shanahan seems to employ a different offensive plan every week. Some weeks the TE is more involved, some weeks it isn't. Dan Graham has become a big red zone target too.

the Chef is a great receiving TE, but a liability in pass protection. You can probably see how this might affect the defense when he's in. My guess is he is the target a higher proportion of the time he's in than most TEs, but he won't be in often enough as the 2nd or 3rd option when Cutler checks down after seeing Marshall is doubled and Royal also covered.

Any stat gurus out there able to confirm or deny this theory?
