the con to rooting your phone, is u might skip a step or something and mess up your phone for a bit, but odds are u'll get it working again with a little leg work. Rooting is the only way to go.

Advanced Task Killer question - I downloaded but not sure what I'm supposed to do. It shows a bunch of apps that are checked off. Is that really all there is to it?

J
i've tried a lot of task killers. most are weak (this being one of them)

I run a combo of

1 part Autorunkiller on Aggresive setting + TaskPanel (one of the best freeware task killers IMHO) + I use Superuser (allows you to authorize the apps that run in your root folder)

Widgetsoid does a great job of letting you customize various toggles and controls - the stock andrid toggle control gives you wifi, bluetooth, gbs, refresh, and brightness all in one 4x1 widget, widgetsoid lets you create a widget with whatever controls you want. I made one with just like the default, but no bluetooth (as I don't own anything to pair it with), but added cellular data toggle and airplane mode. It really cleans everything up.

Sticher and Podkast are both solid free podcast apps. I have found every podcast I enjoy available between the 2.

I highly recommend Pulse. It is an amazing all in one news app. You choose what news sites you like (ESPN, BBC, CNN, Salon, Onion, EW, and basically every other site that would have news about any specific topic) and it puts all their stories in this amazingly easy app to scroll through. You can essentially see the top 10 stories for 20 different sites in 30 seconds with 1 app. It is a must have.

anyone been having any issues with the free version of Pandora lately? Seems to 'rebuffer" after every song, even when I'm on wifi in my house

No one (myself included) like pay apps, but I was not a big fan of the Google listen app and wanted to find something out there for my podcasts.

I found DoggCatcher and have been very happy with it. $6.99 is a little steep but worth the $ in my opinion. I also broke down and bought Power Amp, great app for all of the music I have on my phone.
I use DoggCatcher, too. Very satisfied with it for $6.99.

problem, yes. not sure it's the same as yours. I put the phone in the car dock and stream over bluetooth. hour drive. never a problem until recently.* recently after it's been playing a while it has been stopping after playing a song and going back to my station list.*android has an issue with bluetooth streaming. every 2 or 3 minutes I would get momentary pauses, whether I was using Pandora, Slacker or playing mp3s. Turns out turning wifi off "fixes" that problem.

Anyone use? A buddy of mine told me about it, Exchange by Touchdown trying to gauge if it is worth $19.99, currently not very happy with the stock email client.
Works perfectly for me.
one of the main benefits of rooting is the ability to uninstall that stupid moxier mail. That thing autoran over any 'app stopper' (or restarted shortly thereafter). God was that annoying.

anyone use applanet.net to download apps. guy told me all apps are free. it is down right now.

"Catch" is a very good app for keeping notes. in addition to text notes it let's you snap a picture, then add some text to it; voice notes, etc.

On that topic, TF, the Evernote for android is great. Sync's smoothly with the Evernote on my desktop. Really good. J

Second the Evernote app being great - I took my phone (and a paper notebook) to a conference on the 19th, never touched the notebook as I was able to take all my notes on my phone using Evernote (and Swype.)

So, I have a pregnant wife who is due in the next couple months. I would like to set my phone up to have a silent mode where all calls are on vibrate EXCEPT for my wife's cell and the home phone, so that I can get an emergency call if I'm in a meeting, etc. Anyone know how do do this or an app that would let me do this? Thanks.

Not sure if there's anything else but Tasker apparently will do that. Quick search looks like you would need a "workaround" to get it to work properly.http://groups.google.com/group/tasker/browse_thread/thread/342315043293971b/6bbcd9a678fdfd80#6bbcd9a678fdfd80

Make the default ringtone 'white noise' and set your wife and home to an actual ringtone. Set the phone to ring and vibrate.I made white noise previously by just recording dead air and making it a ringtone.

so glad I am done with Angry Birds

Now I am onto: Gem Miner

Highly Addictive, easy to play, can save the game. Was a top 10 application by PC Magazine. Thinking of buying the retail version, been playing the free version for hours of fun.

Has anyone had Swype tell them that their "trial period has expired?" I've had it since September (at least) and got in on the beta. After the most recent Eris update, I think I re-installed Swype as it was removed from my programs (perhaps that's part of the issue).

If anyone has had this issue, any ideas on how to fix it? Right now, Swype doesn't work on my phone.

delete swype and the installer from the phone. Go to swype, download the installer, follow the instructions.BTW, for anyone who wants it, the "beta" program is open again.

Thanks! It worked. I appreciate the help.

Asked my buddy Todd at lexy and he responded:

Absolutely -- for the Droid, he should direct his mobile browser to FantasyBuzz.Lexy.com. That will allow him to listen continuously to the previous 30 episodes and/or select the ones he wants to listen to. For users with an iPhone, they can download our iPhone app -- do a search at the iTunes app store for "Lexy."Plans are for a Droid app early in 2011.If they want to receive text updates with links for individual shows the minute they're published, they can send a text to 68948 that says: Add Fantasy Buzz. (This is free). They'll get a text message for each new show with the title and a clickable link that will open their mobile browser with that particular episode.

Thanks a bunch for checking into this, but not quite what I am looking for. What I am looking for is mainly an rss feed so I can plug it into google listen, download it like I do the audible and listen while I am driving, because where I do most of my driving, there are areas that I don't get the best cell coverage so streaming gets choppy at times. Hopefully when they come out with an android app it will have what I am looking for.
Yeah it's a pain going to the site on the phone. I've tried.
Hey guys, we're available on iTunes as well. Just head to the store, do a search for Fantasy Buzz in the podcast area and you can subscribe there. Working on a Google Listen solution as well. If you have any other questions or suggestions about the Fantasy Buzz shows, please feel free to email me at FantasyBuzz@Lexy.com. Thanks for listening.Todd

Just got a droid. Any must haves? I see quite a few folk here love juice defender. It's a work phone and despite having total web access on our prior plan, we're rather limited with the internet on the androids.

Is there an app to stream Netflix?
don't hold your breath. not looking good for an app from netflix for existing android devices.
Works on the Evo. Head over to xda for the apk :) Edit: Download from the second post here Have to register to download. Don't know if it works on non-evo phones or not.

2nd edit. Netflix has blocked it since yesterday when I was using it :(

Just downloaded Alchemy. Damn is this addicting and kinda hard after you get 40-50 elements to remember WTF you have tried to combine so far..

Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong thread, but I just rooted my HTC Inspire. I love it so far, but I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with any ROMs from the XDA-Developers forums? They seem to do a lot as far as boosting a phone's performance, but from what I read, it's not without risk.

If there's another rooting/ROMs thread for Droid phones, sorry for intruding.

Not sure if this is on the forums you speak of, but I really enjoy Liberty.
