Should be a lot of competition between Texas and Nebraska on this kid. He's a very good RB. He's attending Nebraska's junior day on Feb. 27th.

3 commits for Texas...

Here's an email from Inside Texas:

Inside Texas broke the news Friday afternoon that Burnet WR Jaxon Shipley was the Horns' first commitment for 2011, and two more of the state's top prospects, Cedar Park LB Chet Moss and Lake Travis OL Taylor Doyle, have since told Inside Texas of their intention to sign with Texas in February of 2011. There are more commitments to come Saturday as Texas hosts a Junior Day for many of the other top prospects in the state. InsideTexas.com is the place to get all the details. In the meantime, here's a link to a free story on Jaxon Shipley's commitment:

Also a rumor that Texas #1 recruit, RB Malcolm Brown will commit.

14 for UT today?
Inside Texas has us at 13.Did you see 14 somewhere?
The Rivals UT site seems to say 14....can't read it though.Regardless...great start. I think Mack doesn't get a lot of credit because of the talent pool, but to sign that many that early...he and his staff must do a GREAT job evaluating these kids early. There are some coaches who have probably just recently turned their attention to '11 kids...Mack's been on them for years.

:wall: He was always known for his ability to recruit. Even before coming to UT. It was the Xs and Os people had their questions about.

True...but these days you don't see him ranked at the top of the list of recruiters sometimes, because there's a perception that it's easy at UT.

What you say is true...and anyone out there who doesn't give MB credit for what he's done in recruiting at Texas or thinks that it's a given that Texas will automatically get the best kids in Texas wasn't paying attention in the 80's or even when Mack came to town. We got our asses kicked in the mid and late 80s by Texas A&M and quite a few others, and in the 90s we got overrun by out of state schools who came in and took most of the state's top talent back home with them. Mack stopped all that nonsense. I lived through those bleak days as a fan, so I won't take our current success for granted. This staff is doing a flat-out amazing job in recruiting.

Texas landed #14 last week...6'3" 225# LB Steve Edmond, #9 recruit in Texas...

...and #15 yesterday...road grader...6'3" 290# OL Sedrick Flowers, #5 recruit in Texas.

So that's 5 of the top 10 so far according to Inside Texas' rankings. I heard someone referring to Rivals' 2011 rankings. Does anyone know how to get to those? I've surfed that site extensively with no luck finding them.

They're not ready yet.

Alabama has been named the leader for 4 of the top 10 recruits in Georgia (incl #1 Isaiah Crowell)....and has already signed the #14 player.

I think the two opening day games in ATL are paying off.

2 of the big undecideds:

James Wilder Jr - LB/RB is a beast...UF lean, but FSU, Miami, even Alabama still seem in the mix.

Jadevean Clowney - 6'6" DE is Rivals #1 player and considered a USCe lean, but Alabama now looking in it.

#10 overall and #1 RB Malcolm Brown seems to be down to Texas and Alabama:

Based on Brown's comfort level at UT, the Longhorns may have been slightly ahead going into the summer. But Brown returned from an unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa with his parents last week singing praises of Alabama.

Besides saying he was impressed with the Crimson Tide's coaches, facilities and campus, Brown got to meet running back Mark Ingram, who won the Heisman Trophy last year.

Will it come down to a choice between the Crimson Tide and the Longhorns?

“Probably,” Brown said."

Longtime Horns fan I believe...but you have to think if he waits and watches the offenses this season that Alabama has a chance.

SC releases Seantrel Henderson from LOI

USC football: Lane Kiffin releases Seantrel Henderson from letter of intent

Los Angeles Times

July 6, 2010

Seantrel Henderson, regarded by many as the top prospect in the nation in the Class of 2010, will be released from his letter of intent with USC, Coach Lane Kiffin said.

The release allows the 6-foot-8 lineman from Minnesota to attend another school without having to sit out a season. He could, however, still decide to remain with USC.

"As of 1:30 p.m, we are releasing Seantrel Henderson out of his national letter of intent with zero penalties and no restrictions," Kiffin said. "Seantrel has been great through the whole process and we wish him the best of luck in his decision."

Henderson could not be reached for comment.

Henderson has seemingly been vacillating about his decision to attend USC ever since verbally committing to the Trojans in February -- before the school appeared before the NCAA's Committee on Infractions.

Henderson signed a letter of intent in March, three months before the NCAA hit USC with major sanctions that include a two-year bowl ban and reduction in scholarships.

USC coaches traveled to Minnesota to reassure Henderson after the penalties were announced and made another trip recently when he did not report to USC with other incoming freshman for summer school.

Henderson is reportedly leaning toward attending Miami or Ohio State, but USC is hopeful that he could still decide to remain with the Trojans.
