Some folks come to FBG to ride on the coattails of the excellent staff's projections. Others come here to discuss the NFL and attempt to prove their mettle on these forums. On the topic of the latter, there are some great I thought this would be an entertaining way for folks to show what they've got.

THE CHALLENGE:

Project the top QB/WR/RB/TE each week. You'll be projecting the top 10 at all positions except WR where you'll be projecting the top 15. No need to post points. Just a simple numbered list at each position. Posting commentary is allowed but not required.

THE METHODOLOGY:

WEEK 2: QUALIFIERS - Everyone can enter (in this thread). If we have more than 28 entries, the Top 28 are selected to advance. (Ties broken by first date of posting)

WEEK 3-11: Each week entrants cut to the following numbers Week 3: 26, Week 4: 24, Week 5: 22, Week 6: 20, Week 7: 18, Week 8: 16, Week 9: 14, Week 10: 12, Week 11: 10. If we have fewer entries, everyone is safe until a cut needs to be made (ala FBG Subscriber Contest).

WEEKS 12-16: Scoring Resets then Top 10 Compete for Title. (cumulative scoring again)

SCORING:

Utilize Scoring System Below

One point for each player correctly in Top 10 (or 15 in case of WR).

One additional point for each player correctly in Top 5

Bonus 3 points for player correctly listed at #1 at his position for the week.

Passing TDs = 6 points

Interceptions Thrown = -2 points

Fumbles Lost -2 points

Rushing TD = 6 points

Receiving TD = 6 points

Passing Yardage = .04 points per yard (25yds/pt)

Rushing Yardage = .10 points per yard (10yds/pt)

Receiving Yardage = .10 points per yard (10yds/pt)

Receptions = 1 Point

2pt Conversions = 2 Points

FINALIZED

THE REWARD:

I'll buy the winner a 2012 FBG Subscription. I know it's not much but the real reward is the bragging rights/cred associated with winning something like this. In addition I feel the entire community benefits from seeing these projections each week. I know I personally value the opinions of some folks on this forum more than others. I know I'll be looking at their posts in this contest closely. If FBG (or others) wish to offer any sort of other prizes associated with the challenge thats great.

WHO CAN COMPETE:

Everyone is welcome. I'd love to have one or two members of staff competing but we'll see how it goes. Worst case, we'll be comparing the contestants to Dodds and Bloom's projections at the end of each week to see how they are faring vs the official FBG Numbers.

DEADLINE:

Entries can be accepted starting now through Friday Night at Midnight. If you want to change your Entry, please edit your original post. One entry per person. For purposes of the tiebreaker, your final post/edit time will be considered your entry time.

ENTRY FORMAT:

For simplicity purposes, entries must be formatted in format of the subsequent post. Simply reply, remove the quote tags and complete the "Form". I don't expect many entries until later in the week but I wanted to throw this out there now to get folks thinking about it.

Iggy. Glad to see you throwing your hat in the ring. FYI I made a slight tweak to the scoring (added Fumbles lost and 2pt conversions). Just wanted to make sure your projections included that. The "Rules" are now locked.

I did two things to help avoid this a little:1) Weighted Top 5 and #1 players a bit to give a bit more credit or isolating the top players vs just getting the top 10 in any order. 2) Time Stamps breaking any ties. Finally... If you look at the ACTUAL week 1 top 10s vs the FBG projected Top 10s.... there's a bit of disparity. People who simply list the safest top 10s will likely not be the ones that win this. Taking slight gambles and going with your gut/reads is more likely to be rewarded then going with Pack Mentality Groupthink IMO. Of course, it could implode... who knows. We'll see I suppose! :excited:

This will make it much easier on me for culling the top 10/15 at each position rather than having to do any math and potentially screwing this up or being late to the party with totals :whistle:

Subscriber contest has different scoring for receptions for each position. You should edit the OP to reflect this.Eta and I think it's -1 for INTs and .05 per passing yard. On a phone right now or I'd check but I think that's what it is b

Eh #### I forgot about that. In an effort to keep this as relevant to as many people as possible (who may be following along for WDIS and other purposes) let's stick with 1PPR and -2 Fumble / -2 Interception. I've got a league with that same system that I could pull live scoring data from for simplicity sake. FINAL :lmao:
 
lol and not one have I considered changing my projections anyway. Make it 30 points per tattoo for all I care if that's easier for you to keep track of. I'm going to win this thing going away. :thumbup:

Do you get points only when you rank someone exactly at the correct position for the week, or if you list them anywhere, and they happen to be in the top 10? For the top 5, do you get the bonus if you rank someone 3rd but they end up 4th? For the 3pt bonus what do you get if you rank someone 2nd and they end up 1st?For example,

What would be the score for these 2 teams, given these "final" rankings?

Every player in the top 10 (15 for wr) earns you 1 point. Position is irrelevant. Every player correctly in the top 5 earns you 1 bonus point...again position is irrelevant.

If you correctly identify the #1 player at their position for the week, you get 3 bonus points (Position is obviously relevant).

Example

Final Rankings:

RB:

1)Rice

2)Mendenhall

3)McCoy

4)Forte

5)Gore

6)Peterson

7)McFadden

8)Benson

9)Turner

10)Charles

TEAM:

RB:

1)Rice

2)Peterson

3)Forte

4)Turner

TOP 10: would score 8 points here (bush/bradshaw both missed)

TOP 5: Would score 3 points here (Peterson and Turner both missed)

#1 OVERALL: Would earn 3 points here as Rice was #1 Overall

TOTAL SCORE: 14 Points.

The goal is to not over-penalize folks for nitpicky stuff, but to reward overall excellence in grading the week. Just because you transposed 3 and 4 backs doesn't mean you didn't do a good job of grading them. Of course, there have to be some cutoffs (1, 5, and 10/15)... but overall I figured this was the simplest way to grade this type of thing fairly.

I don't mind 5 and 9 as he's making a choice (while saying it's a tossup). However I don't think we can allow conditional plays (10 & 7). Honestly that just creates major headaches for me when I'm trying to score this thing. I'll entertain the arguement once it gets narrowed down, but for the first week let's avoid that sorta thing.
