Two caveats: if Toews is out Phoenix has a legit shot. Without Sedin I think the Kings have a legit shot.

Posted: 12:14 pm April 08, 2012Playoff schedule released, Pens-Flyers drop puck first on WednesdaySave the best for last? Not the NHL, not in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The league released the schedule for all the series on Sunday and the first to get started will be the 4/5 matchup in the East between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers. A lot of people, including me, expect this to be the best series in the postseason, with the animosity between the intrastate rivals, not to mention their talent. The 4/5 matchup in the West gets started in Nashville just about the same time, only 30 minutes later. If Philadelphia-Pittsburgh isn't going to be the best series of the first round, I'll take this series as my next guess. The only series that has to wait? The Panthers and Devils. It will be the last to get under way, not dropping the puck until Friday. Hey, when you've waited 12 years like the Panthers have, what's one more day?One cool feature this year is that every game is going to be broadcast nationally in the States. So you can watch whichever series you want from start to finish. This was perhaps the best addition to this year's playoff format. Kudos to the NHL and NBC for swinging that deal.Thursday, April 12, 2012 7 p.m. Ottawa at NY Rangers NHL Network, CBCSaturday, April 14, 2012 7 p.m. Ottawa at NY Rangers NBC Sports Network, CBCMonday, April 16, 2012 7:30 p.m. NY Rangers at Ottawa CBC, CNBCWednesday, April 18, 2012 7:30 p.m. NY Rangers at Ottawa CBC, CNBC*Saturday, April 21, 2012 7 p.m. Ottawa at NY Rangers NBC Sports Network, CBC*Monday, April 23, 2012 TBD NY Rangers at Ottawa TBD*Thursday, April 26, 2012 TBD Ottawa at NY Rangers TBDThursday, April 12, 2012 7:30 p.m. Washington at Boston NBC Sports Network, CBCSaturday, April 14, 2012 3 p.m. Washington at Boston NBC, CBCMonday, April 16, 2012 7:30 p.m. Boston at Washington NBC Sports Network, CBCThursday, April 19, 2012 7:30 p.m. Boston at Washington NBC Sports Network, CBC*Saturday, April 21, 2012 3 p.m. Washington at Boston NBC, CBC*Sunday, April 22, 2012 TBD Boston at Washington TBD*Wednesday, April 25, 2012 TBD Washington at Boston TBDFriday, April 13, 2012 7 p.m. New Jersey at Florida NHL Network, TSNSunday, April 15, 2012 7:30 p.m. New Jersey at Florida NBC Sports Network, TSNTuesday, April 17, 2012 7 p.m. Florida at New Jersey NHL Network, TSNThursday, April 19, 2012 7 p.m. Florida at New Jersey NHL Network, TSN*Saturday, April 21, 2012 6:30 p.m. New Jersey at Florida NHL Network, TSN*Tuesday, April 24, 2012 TBD Florida at New Jersey TBD*Thursday, April 26, 2012 TBD New Jersey at Florida TBDWednesday, April 11, 2012 7:30 p.m. Philadelphia at Pittsburgh NBC Sports Network, TSNFriday, April 13, 2012 7:30 p.m. Philadelphia at Pittsburgh NBC Sports Network, TSNSunday, April 15, 2012 3 p.m. Pittsburgh at Philadelphia NBC, TSNWednesday, April 18, 2012 7:30 p.m. Pittsburgh at Philadelphia NBC Sports Network, TSN*Friday, April 20, 2012 7:30 p.m. Philadelphia at Pittsburgh NBC Sports Network, TSN*Sunday, April 22, 2012 TBD Pittsburgh at Philadelphia TBD*Tuesday, April 24, 2012 TBD Philadelphia at Pittsburgh TBDWednesday, April 11, 2012 10:30 p.m. Los Angeles at Vancouver CBC, NBC Sports NetworkFriday, April 13, 2012 10 p.m. Los Angeles at Vancouver CBC, NBC Sports NetworkSunday, April 15, 2012 10:30 p.m. Vancouver at Los Angeles NBC Sports Network, CBCWednesday, April 18, 2012 10 p.m. Vancouver at Los Angeles NBC Sports Network, CBC*Sunday, April 22, 2012 TBD Los Angeles at Vancouver TBD*Tuesday, April 24, 2012 TBD Vancouver at Los Angeles TBD*Thursday, April 26, 2012 TBD Los Angeles at Vancouver TBDThursday, April 12, 2012 7:30 p.m. San Jose at St. Louis CNBC, TSNSaturday, April 14, 2012 7:30 p.m. San Jose at St. Louis CNBC, TSNMonday, April 16, 2012 10 p.m. St. Louis at San Jose NBC Sports Network, TSNThursday, April 19, 2012 10:30 p.m. St. Louis at San Jose NBC Sports Network, TSN*Saturday, April 21, 2012 7:30 p.m. San Jose at St. Louis CNBC, TSN*Monday, April 23, 2012 TBD St. Louis at San Jose TBD*Wednesday, April 25, 2012 TBD San Jose at St. Louis TBDThursday, April 12, 2012 10 p.m. Chicago at Phoenix NBC Sports Network, TSNSaturday, April 14, 2012 10 p.m. Chicago at Phoenix NBC Sports Network, TSNTuesday, April 17, 2012 9 p.m. Phoenix at Chicago CNBC, TSNThursday, April 19, 2012 8 p.m. Phoenix at Chicago CNBC, TSN*Saturday, April 21, 2012 10 p.m. Chicago at Phoenix NBC Sports Network, TSN*Monday, April 23, 2012 TBD Phoenix at Chicago TBD*Wednesday, April 25, 2012 TBD Chicago at Phoenix TBDWednesday, April 11, 2012 8 p.m. Detroit at Nashville CNBC, CBCFriday, April 13, 2012 7:30 p.m. Detroit at Nashville CNBC, CBCSunday, April 15, 2012 Noon Nashville at Detroit NBC, CBCTuesday, April 17, 2012 7:30 p.m. Nashville at Detroit NBC Sports Network, CBC*Friday, April 20, 2012 8 p.m. Detroit at Nashville CNBC, CBC*Sunday, April 22, 2012 TBD Nashville at Detroit TBD*Tuesday, April 24, 2012 TBD Detroit at Nashville TBD

anyone have the series odds?

That is one juicy first round matchup between the Flyers and Pens.

I don't think anyone wants to play the Devils right now in the East, or Preds in the West.

why would anyone be scared of the Devils? They only got into the playoffs because they were great in shootouts and Brodeur is well past his prime.

Devils offense has looked good lately but I agree, no reason to trust Brodeur anymore. I would not be surprised if the Panthers won that series.

Devils last 10 games:

Loss @ NYR: 2-4

Won @ OTT: 1-0

Loss vs TOR: 3-4 (SO)

Loss @ PIT: 2-5

Won vs CHI: 2-1 (SO)

Won vs TB: 6-4

Won @ CAR: 5-0

Won vs NYI: 3-1

Won @ DET: 2-1

Won vs OTT: 4-2

So, they've won their last 6 but 4 were at home and 3 were against some of the worst teams in the league. Probably only 2 impressive wins in that bunch (@ DET, and vs CHI) and one went to a shootout against a team missing their 2 best players (Keith and Toewvs) while the other was a close 2-1 win against a Detroit team who wasn't scoring against anybody at the time.

They got a great matchup in the first round, but will likely be a big underdog to the Rangers, Bruins, or Penguins/Flyers in round 2.

I do get a chance to watch them play a lot, and DeBoer's got them playing hard. They have good scoring depth and are getting hot at the right time.Brodeur is definitely past his prime, but his playoff experience could be big for them.I don't see them getting to the Finals, but could win a couple of rounds.

I have them at 20-1 to win the East so I am hoping this hot streak carries over.

Florida has been playing like crap the past two weeks.

Wouldn't be surprised if NJ swept them 4-0.

With all the times you've beaten the Blues in the playoffs, it can't be any fun for you guys anymore.

You don't need to score a ton of goals if your goalie is standing on his head. Again, it all depends on how Quick is playing. If he slumps, the Kings can't keep up.

No you don't, but you can't expect to shut out the other team every night. Just seems like there's too much focus being put on how great Quick is, when really, everyone should be asking, "where the hell are the goals going to come from?"

Couver is only averaging 2.5 goals/game over their last 10. Before the game against Edmonton, their PP was slumping too with only 2 goals in their last 35 opportunities.

Kings are averaging 2.6 goals in their last 10. It certainly seems like their offense has picked up after they brought in Jeff Carter to give them more balance on their top 2 lines.

In their 4 H2H matchups this year, Kings outscored them 8 to 7.

It seems like Luongo plays great in the playoffs against teams that aren't Chicago or Boston so I assume he'll come through and keep this series tight.
