Patriots / Saints Preseason Week 1 (1 Viewer)

How's Ridley looking?
Ridley looks good. Like I said in Ridley vs. Vereen thread, this is gonna be 2010 all over again as far as RB split. Ridley is going to get around 50% of carries and Woodhead will be third down / pass / screen back. If Ridley continues this rotation throughout preseason he'll be a RB2 easy. On a side note, as other poster said, Pats OL predictably shake in pass protection given the injuries thus far in camp. Something to bear watching for sure though Dante always seems to get them to perform when it counts.Lloyd also looking as advertised with one nice catch and one near circus catch. This could def. be Brady in 2007 Randy Mode where he is just gonna throw it to Lloyd whenever he is one-on-one no matter the coverage.

I hear Jones is tearing it up, wish I could find a stream this is irritating.

All is good, I found one.

Ridley looks good, 7 carries for 38 yards so far. He's been in there on 1st and 2nd down, Woodhead on 3rd down.

Cheesewhiz Rodgers is really tiny but is running good.

TOUCHDOWN Cheezewhiz

Yeah he looks good. Drawing lots of holding calls. So far so good.ETA: Been abusing Bushrod not sure if he's a starter ??
Jones looks very good. Fast and strong. He's beaten Bushrod (starting left tackle since 2009) a couple of times. Looks like Jones might be pretty savvy, too; he drew a holding call on Bushrod, by grabbing Bushrod and pulling him to the ground to make it look as though Bushrod held him.

Junior Galette (DE Saints) has looked good, too.

Second-year CB Marquis Johnson has also played a good 1st half for the Saints.

Neither of the offenses (starters and scrubs) have performed well.

from earlier this week

Mike Reiss writes on Patriots first-round draft choice Chandler Jones. Reiss quotes Saints left tackle Jermon Bushrod, who was impressed with Jones.

"He looks like a [Jason] Pierre-Paul type, the way he comes off the ball," Bushrod said after spending much of Tuesday's joint practice matched up against Jones. "He has long arms, he's a tall guy and he has good speed. If you let him get into your chest, he has power enough to bull you

Britt Davis hit in shoulder pads. no catch. Picks up brown box on way to the sideline

Vereen had some extremely agile open-field moves, and looked strong going up the middle (shoulders down, pushed the pile). 7 carries, 63 yards, 9.0 ypc... and he had a nice catch for a 10 yard gain. If anything is for certain, the Patriots have a good o-line and good o-line depth.

Chandler Jones was playing angry and looked fast. This game has been good for the Patriots players so far.

Should that read Ridley or Vereen? I thought Riley was getting all the work, unless they switched out already. If so, nice to see Vereen do some work, even if it was likely against the 2nd team defense.

Vereen came in after Ridley and looked pretty good.

Vereen has looked fantastic . . . but it's probably against second or third stringers. 11 carries for 64 yards. At one point he was getting 8 or 9 yards a pop. 2 for 17 receiving too.

Bolden came in before Vereen in the second. Vereen didn't see field until third, but still better to look great vs scrubs than lousy. :)

Pats o-line looks like crap, Brady just got pummeled.
The Pats' potential line issues have been discussed before this offseason, but I don't think they've gotten enough attention. Certainly not as much as the plus of adding Lloyd, when they might be much more significant.

Here's a little more on Jones' debut ... http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2012/08/09/jones-makes-quite-first-impressions-for-patriots/ExEor9waJHaLSPH2I2eMkO/story.html

True dat.

The worst part about the Fletcher injury is that it happened on a ST coverage play that ended up being overturned due to NO being offside and gifting NE a 1st down.

did the saints play? Havnt seen one post on them in here
Not much to say in this typically lousy 6-7 1st preseason game but this is what I came away with:- Lloyd looked great. Lloyd, Welker, Gronk & Hernandez, yikes.- Jones looks awesome, another great defensive pick by the Pats- I didn't say it last week but it needs to start being talked about and repeated: RB Travaris Cadet from App State looks like more than keeper, he looks like a potential full time back, a fill in for either Ivory or Sproles or Thomas. The last time the Saints had a back like this and tried to pay him it was Ivory and before that it was Arian Foster (whom they obviously lost out on). - The Saints are having problems filling in Meachem's role so far. Joe Morgan struggled in pass catching and route running somewhat I think. The best WR in 2 preseason games has been Andy Tanner who reminds me mostly of Lance Moore. Meanwhile Toon and Arrington have been out with injuries.- The Saints defense has been great in two games. You can't rely on anything in preseason but they seem to be causing turnovers, catching interceptions and getting pressure on the QB. It looks like they're running actual schemes and changing them up. Nice.- The Saints LB's have looked great. This is a totally new look and they've been flying to the ball.- Akiem Hicks (not Hakeem Nicks, folks) the top pick in the 3rd round is looking awesome. So is Junior Galette. The Saints D will be fun to watch this year.
