GL, @gianmarco! Speedy recovery!GL to our good buddy @gianmarco who's getting his tonsils removed as we speak...
That Reese guy woke up and is like:Well that was fast: https://fastestknowntime.com/route/glacial-drumlin-state-trail-wi
I was telling @gianmarco yesterday that I really hope they notify him that he lost it....That Reese guy woke up and is like:
"what the #### just happened. 7:51:54? f****************k."
Good thing you know a guy who can just write prescriptions.......Still alive!!
So far not too bad. Ask me again when pain meds wear off!
Does tonsil removal help or hurt a “movie career”? Asking for a friend.GL to our good buddy @gianmarco who's getting his tonsils removed as we speak...
I see what you did there.GL to our good buddy @gianmarco who's getting his tonsils removed as we speak...
Yeah, this.Brony said:Beast of a run @gruecd! Congrats on the milestone and time. That's a long time to be in one's head without others to push you along.
So are your recent exploits going to come up? because I'm picturing in my head:Scheduled a massage for Thursday morning.
Why Don't Runners' Knees Fail More Often?Yeah, this.
Hey, @gruecd, a side note and a question.
Side note: You should post that article about knees and running longevity. It'd be an interesting discussion here.
Question ...a burning question: So which would you prefer - a 53 mile run, or an all-out 5K?![]()
Yeah. I feel great, like no pain at all right now, and just had the urge to get out. It's nice and cool with a little wind.@gianmarco did you really just go for a post-procedure run???
You're doomed.Yeah. I feel great, like no pain at all right now, and just had the urge to get out. It's nice and cool with a little wind.
Only did 1.3 miles. I'm not crazy or anything.
Just came in to post the same thing, this is like Dak playing in the game tonight after his ankle injury last week.@gianmarco did you really just go for a post-procedure run???
I'm a rennysauce type of guy.@El Floppo bingo! I just saw five threads in a row on the main listing where our boy was the most recent poster. An impressive diversity of threads, I might add. Official Soccer; What song are you listening to?; Physics and Astronomy; Dog collar recommendations; and our 10K Thread. Well played, sir, well played.
OMG, so many set up problems. A challenge every step of the way.My new watch just arrived. I'll run with a heart rate monitor tomorrow for the first time since July. I wonder what my VO2 max estimate will be.
From your run this morning, it appears you got it working. Nice progression! Crazy paces, and crazy-low HRs for those paces...OMG, so many set up problems. A challenge every step of the way.
Well la-di-da I just had surgery where they stuck a knife in my throat and cut out a bunch of #### and then I'm going to go home and be like "whatevs" and "no problemo" and rather than sit around and eat ice cream because this is the one time in your life you're allowed to eat as much ice cream as you want I'm just going to strap on my shoes and go out and run a couple KMs so that I don't lose any fitness from my marathon I ran just a few weeks prior so maybe now that this whole surgery thing is proven to be no big deal I'll go and post on some internet nerd running bbs that the weather was so nice I had to run even though there's a good pound of my insides now sitting in some medical waste dump ready to be incinerated just like I incinerated the pain and went running for giggles.Yeah. Thanks! Music doesn't work yet. Won't pair with my headphones among other problems. Hopefully I'll figure something out. Everything else is set up how I want it and no complaints about my run this morning with it. One of my biggest worries was the watch wouldn't light up when I twist my wrist in the dark to see the screen. Fortunately it does! From your run this morning, it appears you got it working. Next I'm going to go star in an opera as the lead.
@xulf helped me with the headphones bit. I had to the ‘forget device’ the headphones in my Bluetooth, then the watch and headphones paired. Thanks! Music doesn't work yet. My heart rate and cadence were a little lower than I would have expected, so that's good.
Forgetting the device from my phone? I can try that when I get home. Thanks. I had some issues trying to link with Spotify. I have Apple Music now. I never set up Apple Music on my windows laptop but I guess that should be doable. I ended up connecting the watch to my laptop last night because I had other issues setting things up and noticed that I could download some albums I had on my old iTunes library. That could at least get me started assuming I can get the headphones paired.@xulf helped me with the headphones bit. Syncing music is not smooth for me yet, I use Runcasts for pods and haven’t tried to get music as Apple Music seems to be doable wired in and I don’t have premium Spotify.
Thanks for asking! So @Juxtatarot, did the new device give you a VO2? I'm curious.
Daaang! You're making me and my current 54 max feel like an old man. Oh, wait ...Juxtatarot said:Thanks for asking!
61. "Your VO2 Max is in the top 1% for your age and gender. Your Fitness Age is 20."
I think I was up to 64 in late 2018/early 2019. That was my highest.
That worked! Thanks. Next step is getting access to more music than just my iTunes library.bushdocda said:@xulf helped me with the headphones bit. I had to the ‘forget device’ the headphones in my Bluetooth, then the watch and headphones paired.
Hopefully a pain-free year ahead, birthday boy!I jogged a little today during a hike with Summit, maybe a mile, mile and half total during a 3+ mile jaunt. First running in about 2 months. No pain in the foot, so hoping I've turned the corner.
Oh man, I hope this is the beginning of your glorious return to ultras. These parts haven't been the same since your injury. Really happy to hear of a good "first step".I jogged a little today during a hike with Summit, maybe a mile, mile and half total during a 3+ mile jaunt. First running in about 2 months. As I told @gianmarco this morning, I'm kicking around the idea of maybe joining him and the missus for this race. I already ran it past the wife, and she's surprisingly OK with me leaving her at home for a few days with a then-7-week-old baby. I think I'm mentally ready to do the prep, but as our esteemed doctor pointed out, my training would need to be much more flexible than normal and would almost certainly end up being something less than ideal. That said, I can't realistically expect to get into PR shape in 4 months anyway, so I'd be treating this as a "stepping stone" of sorts on my way to (hopefully) another PR attempt next November at Monumental.
If your goal is to PR next November then I think if your body is up for it you will benefit from going through a training cycle with that small human at home. I would treat the training seriously and approach it as if you're trying to PR to simulate the real thing, but all while deep down knowing that just isn't realistic. Cause training around life with small humans is just a never ending game of dodgeball. As I told @gianmarco this morning, I'm kicking around the idea of maybe joining him and the missus for this race. Thoughts from the peanut gallery?
Also, I write this knowing I should do this too. But I'm not ready to yet. I intend to once the calendar year flips, but between now and then I'm in maintenance mode with my weight and am gonna eat whatever the hell I damn well please.Been getting really lazy with my eating habits, so I’m gonna start logging my food again for a while and see if that helps. Not fun.
LOOK AT ME I CAN'T SWING A DEAD CAT AROUND HERE WITHOUT HITTING AN AWESOME 50K!Just registered for a 50K on November 14. It's a week later than the other one that I'd been eyeing (more time to recover/train), it's cheaper, it's only 15 minutes away from home, and it's a faster course.
Obvious stuff but the child will create some significant changes to your schedule and sleep and training. I’m about 10 years into adjusting.Thoughts from the peanut gallery?
To quote/paraphrase the great @gianmarco himself, "Hey guys in a running thread, should I run?".Thoughts from the peanut gallery?
When all this Covid BS is up, definitely wanna head up to Canada and do a mountain ultra with you!To quote/paraphrase the great @gianmarco himself, "Hey guys in a running thread, should I run?".
Of course you should.
It's probably still only 50/50 this race happens, so prepare yourself for another cancelation to manage expectations.
That said, this looks like a great race. As I mentioned before, it was my #2 choice for my first marathon attempt (#1 was Houston). A small slice of me wants to join you guys too, but I'm still suffering PTSD from the FBG Virtual Races, and have trouble getting motivated/excited for any street race since then. Mountain races, on the other hand...
When you're counting/logging, what's your target daily calories just to maintain? Also, I write this knowing I should do this too. But I'm not ready to yet. That said, the kids have been remote learning this week (positives in the school). Thankfully they are scheduled to return tomorrow. And these 3 days have made me realize that should things turn south and this becomes (temporarily?) permanent then I will need to start logging food long before I want to in January. I'm not usually a stress eater (nor drinker), but I'm having flashbacks to the stress eating that crept into my world in April and May. Kinda glad the school did this, so I'm proactive should it happen again.
