Snap Counts 2.0 2017 edition (3 Viewers)

Look forward to it every week. One of the highlights of the is entire site, let alone this forum. It not only provides a thoughtful retrospective but also fosters insightful responses and discussion. Don't know where you find the time but rest assured it is most appreciated.

I not only read it but i depend on it. I was a paid subscriber but this basically gives me equal and most times better content than the last couple of years.

I read it all and it's one of the highlights in this forum. Tremendous work.

I'm also curious to see what in the hell happened with Sorensen.
I love this thread as well.  Sometimes I think I should spend less time on Defensive players and focus on my offensive squad but I love finding those players that the rest of my league overlooks.

I have Sorensen as well.  From what I saw, he was on the field the whole night and lined up at LB on 3rd down but he just didn't seem to find any tackles.  He didn't look all that aggressive most of the night.  They did blitz him a few times and he got in there to hurry Cousins but just couldn't get the sack.  I like his role so I'm going to hang on to him for a while and see what happens.

I mirror all the sentiments above.  I read the whole thing and have come to depend on this thread for much of my IDP info.  Great work by everyone that contributes here.

CIN at CLE

Nick Vigil played 64 of 65 snaps. No other Bengal played over 56 snaps. Vigil had a day, 8 solos, 4 assists, 1 sack and 3 total TFLs. Snaps-wise, this game was probably an outlier because it was out of reach early. Vontaze Burfict came back from suspension and played 52 snaps. Burfict had 4 solos and 2 assists. Adam Jones has put together a number of duds after his 1 game suspension. Jones only played 15 snaps, 5th among Cincy CBs, after playing the 2nd most snaps in Weeks 2 and 3. Jones may already be droppable. Darqueze Dennard played the most snaps, partly because they brought former Chief KeiVarae Russell in to play for Dre Kirkpatrick the last few drives to see what they’ve got. Dennard has a sack in each of the last two games. I’m not sure anyone has noticed though. If you pick him up now, it’ll probably be to hold him for 2 weeks as they play the WRless Bills next week followed by their bye. The DE rotation has returned to normal. Carlos Dunlap (54 snaps), the MFL-miscast rookie Carl Lawson (40 snaps), Michael Johnson (39 snaps), pass rush specialist Chris Smith (27 snaps) and rookie Jordan Willis (21 snaps).

Christian Kirksey, Joe Schobert and Jason McCourty all played 100% of snaps. Jabrill Peppers and Jamar Taylor played over 90%. With Danny Shelton missing the game because of injury, Trevon Coley played the most snaps of the DTs. I shouldn’t have drawn the connection with Shelton, because Coley has played the most snaps of the DTs every week regardless of Shelton’s status. @Flying Elvis started Coley and was rewarded. I picked him up but have been running Sheldon Richardson out there instead. Flying Elvis is smarter than I am. Coley had 2 solos, 2 assists and a sack. He is the #6 DT in my primary league on the season. Rookie Caleb Brantley also got his first 16 snaps. Brantley had 2 solos and 1 sack. Derrick Kindred gave up 13 snaps to Ibraheim Campbell last week. This week, his snaps dropped to 36 of 64. Kindred only had 1 solo, 1 assist and .5 TFL. I can’t find much about why Kindred’s snaps have dropped. Campbell only played 4 snaps so that certainly doesn’t explain it. Chris Pokomy of SB Nation Dawgs by Nature heard Briean Boddy-Calhoun, the slot CB, played some of Kindred’s snaps. BBC had 3 solos and 1 assist. Kindred has been playing well, earning high grades from PFF, especially in run support. Unfortunately, he’s unstartable until we learn why he isn’t playing.

CAR AT NE

Luke Kuechly and James Bradberry played all 70 snaps. Mike Adams and Shaq Thompson both played 69. Shaq has now outsnapped Thomas Davis in 2 consecutive weeks. Shaq had 9 solos, 1 assist and 1 TFL. It may have finally happened. Julius Peppers played 34 snaps. He had 2 sacks giving him 4.5 on the season through 4 games. He’s 37 years old. That’s amazing. Charles Johnson didn’t play any snaps this week after playing roughly the same number of snaps as Peppers through the first 3 weeks. Daryl Worley missed this week with a strained pectoral. Bills castoff Kevon Seymour started in his place and played 68 snaps. Seymour had 1 solo to show for his effort. Kurt Coleman will miss a few weeks due to an MCL strain. He’s the 44th ranked Safety in my primary league. I won’t be rushing to the waiver wire to pick up his backup (Demetrious Cox).

Trey Flowers, Kyle Van Noy, Devin McCourty and Malcolm Butler played all 63 snaps. Stephon Gilmore played 62. Dont’a Hightower only played 37 snaps back from injury. Elandon Roberts pitched in 33 snaps. At DE, Cassius Marsh saw his fewest snaps of the season with 18. Deatrich Wise only saw 25 snaps. He’s still a dynasty stash but doesn’t look like he’ll see enough snaps to be reliable this season.

PHI at LAC

Jordan Hicks, Nigel Bradham, Malcolm Jenkins, Rodney McLeod, Jalen Mills and Rasul Douglas played all 57 snaps. Derek Barnett (24 snaps) is inching closer to Vinny Curry (30 snaps). This was Douglas’ second straight game of full snaps. He only ended up with 2 solos though. Mills isn’t exactly a shutdown corner, so it’s not like it sends all the targets towards Douglas. Fletcher Cox missed this game. It allowed Beau Allen to play 38 snaps, second to Timmy Jernigan’s 42 at DT. Allen had 2 solos, both for a loss and a sack.

Tre Boston and Jahleel Addae both played 100%. Casey Hayward and Trevor Williams both played 57 out of 59 snaps. After playing 62% of snaps last week, rookie Desmond King bumped it up to 81% of snaps against Philly. King played one more snap than Nelson Agholor so odds are, King’s snap will be dependent on opponent’s slot WR usage. King had 3 solos and 1 PD. He’s a solid CB option in deeper leagues. If he gets anywhere closer to 100% of snaps, he’ll be really productive. At LB, Jatavis Brown played 68 snaps, Hayes Pullard, back from injury, played 49 snaps and Kyle Emmanuel and Korey Toomer pulled up the rear with 17 and 16 snaps.

I’m genuinely curious. How many people read this whole thing?
Every bit of it.

Above in green --- why the note of "mis-cast" on Lawson? Is he a DE? That'd make his value as a stash for next year's designation correction pretty fantastic, especially with both Dunlap & Johnson signed only through 2018.

Also in green --- I appreciate the nod, but desperation does not equal smarts. Rolling with Coley b/c nobody wants to move DTs, for some reason. Lucky me... had high waiver priority to add Grady Jarrett after an impatient owner cut him following back to back zeros to start the season. Suddenly DT is a strength and, with 2 good options, I'll show how unsmart I am each week, no doubt. lol

NE --- epic JAGs on defense right now but, as long as you don't rely on TFL, they'll continue to pile up stats with tackles 6 yards off the LOS.

LAC --- anyone know if Desmond King was still the KR? Zero stats there for any LAC players so I'm assuming all kickoffs were touchbacks. King as an add & stash is looking really nice right now in leagues with return yardage if his snap count is climbing.

No mention of Anthony Zettel in the DET notes. This guy is in the top 10 at DE with consistent production, but is listed as the 3rd DE on roto. What gives? Are there injuries I'm not aware of to the guys ahead of him? Are they rotating enough that his team-leading snap counts each week (via footballoutsiders) will be sustainable going forward? Looking at him and Brooks Reed on the wire and Zettel is the more consistent of the 2.

I read it all.  Thank you for all of the time and effort you put forth into putting this content together for all of us!

I would take a chance on Zettel.  He looked good last week against the Vikes.  He was causing trouble all over.  I know Ansah is dinged but Zettel had 30 snaps to Ziggy's 36.  He has been either 1 or 2 in snaps for each game.  I think it should continue.  I would pick him up if you are looking for someone.

I paused after the NE game, but I read every word before I got to the question. I  try to give you a like each time so you know. Thank you very much this helps out soo much! Muchos Gracias!

Regarding Coley, I'll take the contrarian view.  Caleb Brantley is the one to own.  He had just 16 snaps last week, his first of the year, and ended up with a sack and a solo.  1st round talent that fell to the 6th mostly due to an off-field assault accusation that turned out to be false.

And regarding Carl Lawson, he was listed at LB and lined up there all pre-season.  He was miscast by their early scheme and I think he's still lining up standing up a lot.  I have him on my list of LB to DE candidates for 2018 though.

Appreciate all the love gents. I just figured most guys would skim a 5,000 word post with highlighted player names. Now I just hope none of you are in my primary league...

Re: Carl Lawson. I think I heard it on the Read and React or the IDP Round Table. I don't entirely trust it though. I think it's a mix. If you consider all of Lawson's snaps DE snaps, that means the Bengals had an average of 2.7 DEs on the field for each play and an average of 2.2 LBs on the field for each play. If you consider Lawson's snaps LB snaps, those numbers would flip which makes a lot more sense. I just think they considered Lawson a value they couldn't pass up on when they got him in the 4th Round, even after they took Jordan Willis the round before. They didn't have a set plan for using him but wanted to get him snaps. @Hankmoody is probably right. He's a good possibility to transition to a DE spot next year if that depth chart loosens up a bit. Someone also mentioned on a draft podcast I listened to over the summer that the Bengals spend the least on draft scouting of any team. That's why it sometimes seems like they get draft "steals." A big name college player will fall off other teams' boards and the Bengals will draft him because he was a big name in college. Or they'll draft based solely on the combine without actually scouting the player. Makes a little sense if you look at their draft.

I skim CBs and DTs since they're not required... but I read 90% and appreciate it.

Read every word and am extremely grateful for all the effort you put in. Amazing.

I didn't see anything on Conte in your snap counts, but he's been productive thus far. Any thoughts on his role going forward? Once Alexander and Ward are all healthy, does he become a drop?

Is Quinton Dunbar the one to have with Norman out?

Read it all...great stuff!

Not sure - but clearly this rookie Justin Evans is someone to keep an eye on in Ward's absence.  So far 5 solo's, 1 assist, 1 interception, 1 pass defended - and it's not even half time.

Conte has 1 solo.

Yep, Conte has been pretty invisible.

Beckwith is playing well in this game, too. It's a shame that he's going to probably drop-city once Alexander and David return.

I read it all. Great stuff and very useful. I took notes to follow up on some of the players you mentioned that are available in my league. Thanks a lot.

I read it all every week.  Appreciate the hard work and time greatly.

Just as, if not more, valuable to me as any FBG IDP article weekly.

That's heavily about game script.  NEP was in machine-gun passing mode and Evans was just cleaning up all the underneath stuff to Amendola and White.  TBB was playing mostly cover 4 and it just happened that a lot of the plays went to Evans' side of the field.  I'm not raining on Evans, just putting it in perspective and assuring the Conte owners.  Could easily have been Conte with those numbers.

Another name I missed in ChicagoArch's great rundown was Jabaal Sheard's. He had a great game, and I'm very intrigued by him and David Bass. Both have DE/DL eligibility, but both are listed on their depth charts as OLBs. Maybe I'm off, but it would seem that being OLBs would offer more tackle opportunities than being DEs...and that would be important in tackle-heavy leagues like mine.

Jabaal Sheard's.
He is holding edge-responsibility tremendously.  But that negatively effects his sack chances.  Very similar to Okafor in New Orleans.

Through four games he is PFFs #12 overall Edge defender (#3 vs the run). He certainly looks "thicker" then Ive ever seen him before.

In my tackle-heavy league, I'll gladly take the hit in sacks if I can get good tackle production from one of my DL. :)

I just picked him up and had did some digging.

He has four sacks in four games and plays opposite Ziggy so he won't be the focus of double teams and in preseason he was viewed as a breakout player.

Anthony Zettel will be Detroit Lions' 2017 breakout defensive player
This week the G-Men are concerned about him.

http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2017/09/lions_de_anthony_zettel_looks.html

The Giants are worried about Anthony Zettel -- and they should be

...one player really caught New York's attention.

"(Anthony Zettel) stood out to us on tape," McAdoo said. "He's made a jump from last year to this year, seems to be growing comfortable with the system. ... He's a very physical, combative player."

... Zettel was a sixth-round pick last year.  ...And Zettel was making a position change at that, moving from the inside at Penn State to the outside in Detroit.

Caldwell said. " ...really done a tremendous job remaking his body where he's stronger. He's always been a good athlete -- it appears that he's even more athletic -- but his understanding of what has to get done within the context of his position has grown. It's developed."

A quick note to start. In my primary league, my top 4 WRs are OBJ, Willie Snead, Cam Meredith and John Brown. So I’m already looking towards next year. My IDP are doing great though. I really need to get into an IDP only league… Anyways, a few notes in here will be geared toward next year for dynasty players so it’ll be a little long. And for the record, I’m skipping CBs in the future notes. No one should carry CBs during the offseason. They’re like Kickers.

NE at TB

Devin McCourty and Patrick Chung played all 72 snaps. Malcolm Butler, Stephon Gilmore, Trey Flowers and Kyle Van Noy all played north of 90%. Alan Branch was a healthy scratch. Branch hasn’t played more than 21 snaps since Week 1. His absence allowed Cassius Marsh to up his snap count to 69%, his highest snap count to date. Marsh ended with 2 solos. Deatrich Wise played 29 snaps. Wise had 1 sack and a 2nd QB hit. In Dont’a Hightower’s second game back from injury, he played 62 snaps and ended with 2 solos. This forced a substantial drop in Elandon Roberts’ snaps. In the last three games, Roberts has played 84%, 52% and 32% of snaps. Marsh will be a UFA this year. Flowers will be a UFA in 2019. Flowers doesn’t seem like a Chandler Jones/Jamie Collins type that will want too much money so Belichick ships them off prior to the end of their contract to get something in return. Either way, Derek Rivers and Wise should see plenty of snaps next year.

Kendell Beckwith, Adarius Glanton, Chris Conte, Justin Evans, Vernon Hargreaves III and Brent Grimes played all 74 snaps. Beckwith, Evans and Glanton all had really notable stat lines. Evans had 8 solos, 1 assist, 1 int and another PD. Evans profiled as a Free Safety with range that could hit. Tampa normally plays 2-high safeties rather than a Free and a Strong. Evans’ tackle numbers were probably more dependent on New England’s short passing game plan than anything else. Gerald McCoy played 66 snaps which is impressive for a big guy. Noah Spence played the most snaps at DE with 60. He only put together 1 solo and 1 assist while Robert Ayers played 48 snaps (2nd most) and had 1 solo, 1 assist and 3 QB hits. Spence is wearing a protective harness on his shoulder to prevent more dislocations. There is the question whether it is limiting his upside or not. Glanton had another solid game. He’s a RFA after the season. If he keeps getting opportunities in Kwon Alexander and Lavonte David’s absence, the 2014 UDFA could potentially earn a deal as a starter like AJ Klein with the Saints last offseason.

BUF at CIN

Preston Brown, Jordan Poyer, Micah Hyde, TreDavious White and Shareece Wright all played 100% of snaps. Wright’s increase in snaps is due to EJ Gaines’ injury. With Ramon Humber out with a broken hand, rookie Matt Milano took over for him. Milano didn’t play in subpackages though. Lorenzo Alexander played 61 snaps. Milano played 41 snaps. Alexander had 5 solos and 2 assists. Milano had 1 solos and 3 assists. It looks like Alexander will be useful during Humber’s absence. Shaq Lawson returned from injury and played 47 snaps. Eddie Yarbrough dropped back down to 15 snaps. I don’t think Marcell Dareus and Adolphus Washington have both been healthy since Week 1, when Dareus played 34 snaps to Washington’s 15 snaps. In Week 5, Dareus played only 22 snaps to Washington’s 33 snaps. Both had 1 solo and 1 assist, but Dareus’ solo was a sack. It might be time to try and sell Dareus on his name. Brown and Humber will both be UFAs at the end of the year. Milano was a 5th Rounder this year. Tanner Vallejo was a 6th Rounder. If they don’t resign Brown, I can’t imagine his replacement is currently on the roster.

For the 2nd straight week, Nick Vigil was the only Bengal to play 100% of snaps. Vontaze Burfict, George Iloka and William Jackson III all played north of 90% of snaps. Also for the second straight week, Adam Jones only played 15 snaps. For now, he’s primarily serving as Joe Mixon’s mentor. Carl Lawson’s snaps dropped from 40 in Week 4 to 26. Lawson still had a sack. Everyone had a sack against TyGod. Burfict, Geno Atkins and Jordan Willis all had 1 sack. Michael Johnson had 2 sacks. For the first time everyone is healthy, Willis outsnapped Chris Smith, 22 to 18. Pat Sims and Smith will both be UFAs come Week 18. Some will think Sims leaving will create some space for Sophomore Andrew Billings, but Billings has averaged 8.2 snaps per game this season after missing last season with injury.

NYJ at CLE

Demario Davis, Marcus Maye, Jamal Adams and Morris Claiborne all played 76 snaps. Buster Skrine played 75 snaps. Darron Lee played 72 snaps. Leonard Williams played 62 snaps and Mo Wilkerson played 52 snaps. David Bass had a down week stat-wise, 2 solos and 1 assist, but he played 56 snaps. Jordan Jenkins played 48 snaps and had 2 solos and 2 QB hits. Davis, Kony Ealy, Bass and 2 dozen others are UFAs after the season. Projecting players on this roster for next year is a fool’s errand. This defense is so devoid of talent it’s embarrassing. If someone hasn’t stepped up and earned snaps, they aren’t going to be a good IDP. The Jets are one of the 3-4 teams most likely to undergo a DC change and possible transition to a 4-3. There was talk Lorenzo Mauldin could be cut prior to the season. He ended up on IR instead. I’ll be keeping my eye on Jenkins. He was a 3rd Round pick last year. He’s more of a run-stopper than a pass-rusher and he would need to put on some weight to hold his own at 4-3 DE.

Christian Kirksey and Joe Schobert both played 53 snaps. Jabrill Peppers, Jason McCourty and Jamar Taylor all played 52 snaps. Ibraheim Campbell officially bypassed Derrick Kindred, 25 snaps to 10 snaps. Kindred is unstartable unless this reverses course. Campbell had 3 solos to Kindred’s 2 solos. James Burgess played 45 snaps in Jamie Collins’ continued absence. Burgess led the team in tackles with 6 solos, 1 assist, 1 sack and 1 PD. Trevon Coley played the most snaps at DT for the 5th straight week to start the season (the season is 5 weeks old). Coley played 31 snaps to Danny Shelton’s 24 snaps. In Myles Garrett’s first appearance of the year, he played 19 snaps and ended with 2 sacks. All of the Browns’ starters are under contract next year. Outside of Kirksey, Collins, Peppers, Garrett and Shelton, none of these guys are guaranteed spots. The Browns own so many draft picks in 2018 that no one’s job is safe.

CAR at DET

Luke Kuechly and Shaq Thompson were the only two Panthers to play all 61 snaps. Mike Adams and James Bradberry both played 60 snaps. Kurt Coleman and Demetrious Cox both missed this game with injury. Colin Jones and Jarius Byrd split snaps in their place. Jones ended with 4 solos and 1 assist on 36 snaps. Jones was a 6th Round pick in 2011. I’m not rushing to the waiver wire. Charles Johnson didn’t play any snaps for the 2nd straight week. The DE snaps went as follows: Mario Addison 31 snaps, Julius Peppers 29 snaps and Wes Horton 20 snaps. Two big guys up front, Star Lotulelei and Peppers will both be UFAs this offseason. Everyone who drafted Vernon Butler has been waiting for Carolina to not be able to afford Lotulelei.

Jarrad Davis, Glover Quin, Tavon Wilson and Darius Slay played all 66 snaps. Davis played 100% of snaps in his first game back from injury. Davis had 4 solos, 4 assists, 2 TFLs and 1 PD. With Davis back to 100% and Paul Worrilow out, Detroit only played 2 LB on most snaps. rookie Jalen Reeves-Maybin didn’t play a defensive snap. Wilson was limited in the last game but came back to 100% in his second game back. This dropped Miles Killebrew’s snaps to 35. Wilson led the team in tackles with 9 solos, 1 assist and 3 TFLs. Killebrew only had 1 solo and 1 assist. Ezekiel Ansah and Anthony Zettel’s snaps have stabilized a bit. Ansah played 35 snaps while Zettel played 36 snaps. Armonty Bryant was dropped. Detroit has a lot of big names with rosters coming due at the end of the season. Ansah, Haloti Ngata, Tahir Whitehead, Wilson and Worrilow will all be UFAs. Wilson is important for everyone who believes in Killebrew. I wouldn’t think they’d let Ansah walk, but just a few years ago they let Suh and Nick Fairley walk in the same offseason. If they do, they’d need to draft someone or roll with Kerry Hyder and Zettel.

SF at IND

Jaquiski Tartt and Jimmie Ward played all 76 snaps. Dontae Johnson played 72 snaps. 3rd Round rookie Akhello Witherspoon played his first 6 snaps of the season. Witherspoon left the game with a concussion, but if you’ve been relying on Johnson or Rashard Robinson this is worth noting. Witherspoon played for Johnson on the 9er’s 2nd defensive series and for Robinson on the 3rd defensive series. Robinson also left missed part of the game with a muscle cramp and ended with 62 snaps. Navarro Bowman only played 58 snaps. Apparently San Francisco is trying to keep him fresh after a couple of rough outings. Former UDFA Brock Coyle rotated in for him and played 25 snaps. Bowman still paced the team with tackles, 5 solos and 5 assists. DeForest Buckner played 67 snaps. Solomon Thomas played 66 snaps. Thomas didn’t put together a ton of stats with 1 solo TFL and 1 assist, but with that snap count, stats will come. Eric Reid and Aaron Lynch will both be UFAs after the season. Tartt may just keep the starting spot.

Jon Bostic, Malik Hoooker and Vontae Davis all played 100% of snaps. Rashaan Melvin played 71 of 72 snaps. Antonio Morrison played the 2nd most snaps at ILB with 55. Morrison outproduced Bostic slightly though. Morrison had 5 solos and 2 assist. Bostic had 3 solos and 4 assists. Matthias Farley played 68% of snaps but 5 solos, 1 assist and 1 PD. Farley is still rotating with Darius Butler who played 30 snaps, 42%. Jabaal Sheard had himself a game, 4 solos, 3 assists, 1.5 sacks and 2 TFLs on 64 snaps. Henry Anderson played 51 snaps which is his most on the year. He had 1 solo and 2 QB hits to show for it. Butler ended with 2 solos and 2 assists. Butler and Bostic are both pending UFAs. Not exactly the Killer Bs. Who wants to bet whether Indy drafts an ILB in the mid-to-late rounds next year? My money's on Yes.

TEN at MIA

Kevin Byard and Logan Ryan were the only two players to play all 59 snaps. DaNorris Searcy played 52 while Jonathan Cyprien is still out with injury. Adoree’ Jackson played 50 snaps. At ILB, Wesley Woodyard played 51 snaps, Avery Williamson played 48 snaps and Jayon Brown played 19 snaps. Jurrell Casey is so consistent. Casey had 4 solos, 1 assist, 1 sack and 2 TFLs on 42 snaps. Williamson and DaQuan Jones will both be UFAs this year.

Kiko Alonso, Lawrence Timmons, Nate Allen, Xavien Howard and Cordrea Tankersley played all 59 snaps. Reshad Jones played 58 snaps. Byron Maxwell was inactive for this game so if Tankersley is still available, the rookie is worth a pickup. Tankersley had 2 solos and 1 PD. When not facing Matt Cassel, QBs will test the rookie CB if he’s playing all the snaps. Rey Maualuga saw his first action on the season with 31 snaps. Mike Hull didn’t play a single defensive snap. Williams Hayes will be a UFA this offseason. 35-year-old Cameron Wake will be a UFA in 2019. Charles Harris is already playing more snaps in every game than Hayes.

LAC at NYG

Tre Boston, Jahleel Addae, Casey Hayward and Trevor Williams played 70 snaps. Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa are both playing more than 80% of snaps. Both had 2 sacks. Jatavis Brown’s snaps dropped to 35 as he was dealing with an ankle injury. Hayes Pullard jumped from 62% of snaps to 73% of snaps in Brown’s absence. Pullard had 7 solos and 1 assist. Adrian Phillips, the #3 Safety, played 53 snaps and amassed 8 solos. Desmond King’s snaps dropped from 78% to to 69%. This may have been a result of every single Giant WR getting hurt in this game. Darius Philon was mentioned here a few weeks back. Philon played 33 snaps, 3rd among DTs behind Corey Liuget (45 snaps) and Brandon Mebane (35 snaps). Philon had 3 solos, 2 assists, 1 sack and 2 TFLs. That’s more stats than Liuget and Mebane combined. Korey Toomer will be a UFA at the end of the season.

No Giants played 100% of snaps. Jason Pierre-Paul, Landon Collins, Darian Thompson and Janoris Jenkins all played over 90% of snaps. Olivier Vernon missed this game with the ankle injury he’s been dealing with. DEs that play 90% of snaps are very rare. JPP is solidly among that elite class. Thompson put together a day, 8 solos, 3 assists, 2 PDs and 1 QB hit. He plays FS next to last years S1 Collins so I this game feels like a bit of an outlier. BJ Goodson only played 59 snaps. Goodson hasn’t played over 90% of snaps since Week 1. Goodson compiled 5 solos, 3 assists and 1 TFL. The Steelers traded the Giants Ross Cockrell in the preseason. Cockrell played 39 snaps in Week 2 when Jenkins missed because of injury. This week, Cockrell played 35 snaps as Eli Apple was benched to start the game. Last year’s 1st Rounder wasn’t a big fan of the benching. Apple still played 63 snaps and ended with 5 solos. More than half of the Giants’ LB corps will be UFAs this offseason. Goodson is the only one under contract next year. Watch New York spend another 5th rounder on a middling LB prospect.

ARI at PHI

Patrick Peterson and Deone Bucannon were the only Cardinals to play all 67 snaps. Karlos Dansby, Chandler Jones, Tyrann Mathieu, Tyvon Branch and Justin Bethel all played 90%+. In his second game back from injury, Bucannon played 100% of snaps. He ended with 5 solos and 1 assist. Haason Reddick’s snaps dropped to 31 out of 67. Reddick ended with 2 solos. Branch still led the way with 4 solos, 6 assists and 1 TFL. The Honeybadger followed up his peak week with valley week with 2 solos and 1 assist. Antoine Bethea played 42 snaps. Bethea put together 2 solos, 2 assists and 1 PD. Branch, Corey Peters, Karlos Dansby, Frostee Rucker, Josh Bynes and Kareem Martin will all be UFAs before next season.

Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney McLeod both played 100% of snaps. Jalen Mills played over 90% of snaps. This game got out of hand so early, no one else needed to play. West Coast teams coming east… Fletcher Cox missed his second straight game. Timmy Jernigan played 46 snaps. Jernigan has played the most snaps at DT every game starting in Week 3. Rasul Douglas played 100% of snaps last week. It didn’t go very well. Douglas dropped down to 20 snaps against Arizona. Patrick Robinson went back up to 46 snaps. In a game with a 21-0 lead in the first quarter, you’d think the Eagles would want to get 1st Round rookie Derek Barnett as many snaps as possible. Barnett ended up playing the 4th most snaps at DE at 26. Brandon Graham played 43 snaps, Vinny Curry played 34 snaps and Chris Long played 29 snaps. Nigel Bradham and Jernigan will both be UFAs after this season. If Bradham doesn’t resign, it definitely creates a hole at LB. I don’t think Bradham’s replacement is on the roster. I know some people are still waiting for Mychal Kendricks to happen, but if it hasn’t happened at this point… Najee Goode is a 2012 5th Round pick from Tampa. Kamu Grugier-Hill was a 6th Round pick from the Pats last year who ended up on Philly after the Pats released him. Joe Walker was a 6th Round pick last year. 5th Round S-turned-LB Nate Gerry is still on the practice squad.

JAX at PIT

Myles Jack, Telvin Smith and Jalen Ramsey played all 79 snaps. Tashaun Gipson, Barry Church and AJ Bouye all played more than 70 snaps. Aaron Colvin had a day on 55 snaps. His 9 solos led the team. He also added 1 assist and 2 TFLs. That tackle number surpasses his first four weeks combined. Ramsey is a stud. He had 7 solos and 4 PDs, including 1 int. Not a lot of guys can put up 4 PDs in one game. Yannick Ngakoue played more snaps than Calais Campbell, 62 to 58. Campbell still outproduced him. Campbell had 1 solo, 3 assists and 0.5 sacks. Ngakoue had 1 assist. Dante Fowler played 37 snaps and had 1 sack. Malik Jackson played 55 snaps but didn’t record a stat. Paul Posluzny and Smith will both be UFAs after the season. Blair Brown truthers unite.

Ryan Shazier played 54 snaps. Bud Dupree, TJ Watt, Sean Davis, Artie Burns and Joe Haden all played 50 or more snaps. Cameron Hayward, Stephon Tuitt, Vince Williams and Mike Mitchell all played between 46 and 50 snaps. Williams had his best game of the season with 6 solos, 2 assists and 1 sack. This should have been expected. The Jags are going to pass as few times as possible. Williams and other designated run stuffers will rack up stats against them. Javon Hargrave led the team in total tackles playing just 33 snaps. Hargrave had 4 solos and 6 assists. Anthony Chickillo only played 5 snaps. Pittsburgh doesn’t like to rotate their LBs. Whoever starts will play over 90%, with the exception of Williams this year. JJ Wilcox only saw 6 snaps this week after playing 100% last week when Mitchell was out. The Steelers don’t have any big name defensive UFAs after this season.

BAL at OAK

CJ Mosley, Tony Jefferson, Eric Weddle and Brandon Carr all played 56 snaps. Kamalei Correa played 1 defensive snap. Patrick Onwuasor only played 37 snaps but has cemented his spot next to Mosley. Onwuasor had 3 solos and 2 assists. Jimmy Smith had a sore achilles and only played 7 snaps. First Round rookie Marlon Humphrey played 55 snaps. Humphrey ended with 2 solos and 1 assist. Willie Henry has played 3 games this season. He has bookended a down week with two solid weeks. On 42 snaps, Henry had 3 solos, 2 assists and 1 TFL. With both Brandon Williams and Brent Urban still out, Henry could see increased snaps. Urban will be the only defensive UFA after the season.

Reggie Nelson was the only Raider to play all 66 snaps. Karl Joseph, TJ Carrie and Sean Smith all played 62 snaps. Cory James left this game with a knee injury. I can’t find any update on it. James only played 34 snaps. Marquel Lee left the game with an ankle injury after 31 snaps. Lee had to be carted off. Tyrell Adams and Nicholas Morrow may have just earned spots by process of elimination. Adams played 36 snaps while Morrow played 33. Adams ended with 2 solos and 4 assists. Morrow had 2 solos and 2 assists. Hopefully some news comes down before tomorrow on the severity of James and Lee’s injuries. If they’re both out for awhile, Adams and Morrow should be good going forward. It sounds like James’ injury isn’t as bad. If he’s able to play, Adams and Morrow will split snaps. Aldon Smith and Nelson are the only defensive big names pending UFA. Who knows if Obi Melifonwu will be ready as a sophomore after missing his rookie season?

SEA at LAR

Bobby Wagner, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, Richard Sherman and Shaq Griffin played 74 snaps. KJ Wright played 72 snaps. Justin Coleman played 68 snaps. Michael Wilhoite only played 6 snaps. They were in the nickel basically the entire game. Pete Carroll said Cliff Avril’s neck injury was serious. He implied Avril may not play again. In Avril’s absence, Michael Bennett played 60 snaps, Frank Clark played 57 snaps and Marcus Smith II played 37 snaps. Through the first three weeks, Smith had played in 30 defensive snaps total. Bennett and Clark both had 3 solos and a sack. Bennett added an assist. Clark added 2 more TFLs. Smith only had a solo. He will see snaps. Even with Bennett and Clark both seeing over 75% of snaps, Bennett moves inside in pass rush packages, creating a need for a 3rd DE. Smith will be very boom bust. I think if they’re facing a bad O-line, he may be worth a Hail Mary in a deep league. Otherwise, he’s probably not startable, unless you’re a sack-whisperer. Sheldon Richardson played 45 snaps. He didn’t have a tackle, but caught an interception. Richardson, Bradley McDougald, Wilhoite, Smith and Dion Jordan will be all be UFAs. If Smith and Jordan walk and Avril’s neck injury is serious, Seattle will need to add DE depth during the offseason. You think they’re frustrated the Jets claimed David Bass off waivers?

Alec Ogletree, Mark Barron, John Johnson (JJ) and Trumaine Johnson (TJ) played 68 snaps. Kayvon Webster played 62 snaps. Barron had a day, 12 solos, 3 assists and 1 TFL. Hopefully you picked up JJ last week. This week, after being a surprise healthy scratch, LA waived Mo Alexander. They must really trust JJ to release a Safety when their starting FS is injured. It sounds like Lamarcus Joyner will start at FS, when healthy, and JJ will start at SS. Add Marqui Christian to your watchlist in case someone else gets injured. Christian played a ton in the preseason. JJ had 2 solos, 1 assist and 2 PDs, including 1 pick. Cody Davis, starting for Joyner at FS, played 45 snaps and had 4 solos, 1 assist and 3 PDs, including an interception of his own. Joyner and Davis are both UFAs at the end of the year. Ogletree and Connor Barwin are also both able to walk at the end of the season.

GB at DAL

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix was the only Packer on the field for all 74 defensive snaps. Blake Martinez and Clay Matthews were the only other guys above 90%. Martinez put up the noteworthy stat line with 7 solos, 5 assists, 0.5 TFL and 1 PD. Morgan Burnett left the game with a hamstring injury after 47 snaps. Josh Jones only played 38 snaps while Kentrell Brice only played 28 snaps. Their CBs played a ton of snaps which seemed to have limited their Safety snaps this week. Davon House was back from injury and played 58 snaps. Kevin King played 16 snaps before leaving with a concussion. Damarious Randall played 60 snaps. Quinten Rollins and action star Josh Hawkins rounded it out with 29 and 25 snaps, respectively. Burnett is the big name here that will be a UFA. Tough to imagine him leaving. A lot of people expect that based on the Jones draft pick but they play 3 Safeties in base. Jones and Burnett can play together.

Byron Jones was the only Cowboy to play 100% of snaps. What kind of idiot would suggest giving David Irving a week to see what his usage would be? Let me go back and edit last week’s post… Irving played 45 snaps in his first game back from suspension. He ended with 3 solos, 2 assists and 2 sacks with a 3rd QB hit. Anthony Hitchens returned from injury and played 50 snaps. This really cut into Jaylon Smith’s snaps. Last week, Smith played 100% of snaps. This week, Smith played 55% of snaps. Hitchens amassed 3 solos and 3 assists while Smith put together 3 solos and 4 assists. Rookie Jourdan Lewis played in the nickel, handling 45 snaps. Lewis ended with 5 solos, 2 assists and 3 PDs. Anthony Brown played 59 snaps while Orlando Scandrick played 58 snaps. Jeff Heath played 49 snaps. With Kavon Frazier out due to injury, Xavier Woods only played 21 snaps. DeMarcus Lawrence and Hitchens are the only Cowboy UFAs of note this season. Good time for Lawrence to be due another contract.

KC at HOU

Ron Parker and Marcus Peters played all 64 snaps. Derrick Johnson, Daniel Sorensen and Terrance Mitchell played 63 snaps. Parker led the team in tackles with 5 solos and 3 assists. Sorensen bounced back after his down game, putting up 4 solos, 2 assists, 0.5 sacks and 1 PD. Reggie Ragland in his 2nd game as a pro played 10 snaps. He didn’t produce a stat. Chris Jones and Allen Bailey just about matched snaps. Jones played 43 while Bailey played 45. Eric Murray played 45 snaps at safety when Sorensen moved into the box to play nickel LB. Bennie Logan played 41 snaps and had 3 solos. Logan and Kevin Pierre-Louis could become UFAs after the season. Assuming soon-to-be 35 year old Johnson calls it this year after there’s been a marked decline in his play, Ragland and Ramik Wilson could be playing ILB if KC doesn’t add someone new.

The headline here is obviously JJ Watt is done for the year. Benardrick McKinney, Andre Hal and Marcus Gilchrist played 77 snaps. Kareem Jackson played 74 snaps in Kevin Johnson’s continued absence. Jadeveon Clowney played 71 snaps. Zach Cunningham played twice as many snaps as Dylan Cole, 56 to 28. Cunningham had a solid day, 4 solos and 5 assists. Cole continues to produce. Cole had 3 solos, 3 assists and 1 TFL. Gilchrist and Eddie Pleasant will both be UFAs early in 2018.

MIN at CHI

Erik Kendricks, Anthony Barr, Harrison Smith and Andrew Sendejo played 61 snaps. Everson Griffen and Xavier Rhodes played over 90% of snaps. Trae Waynes played 54 snaps. Danielle Hunter played 47 snaps. This was one of those games that Chicago’s offense couldn’t keep drives alive so it limited the Vikings tackle opportunities. Linval Joseph and Waynes led the team with 6 solos apiece. Sharrif Floyd and Tom Johnson will be UFAs after the season. It could create some opportunity for rookie Jaleel Johnson.

Eddie Jackson, Adrian Amos, Kyle Fuller and Prince Amukamara each were on the field for 70 snaps. Christian Jones played 69 snaps. Jones led the team in total tackles with 5 solos, 4 assists and 1 PD. Amos had another 8 solos. Leonard Floyd played 65 snaps which is almost Pittsburgh-level usage of a 3-4 OLB. Floyd ended with 6 solos, 2 sacks and 2 TFLs. Sam Bradford reinjured his knee and kept playing for a bit. He was completely immobile which allowed the Bears pass-rushers to eat. Minnesota switched to Case Keenum in the middle of the game. Akiem Hicks played 85% of snaps and ended with 2 sacks of his own. The Bears lost another ILB when John Timu left with a knee injury. It looks like Jonathan Anderson played 19 snaps after Timu left the game. I only bring up Anderson because Timu is the 3rd ILB who’s left injured and 4th lost overall counting Danny Trevathan’s 1 week suspension. The odds of Anderson playing meaningful snaps are far, far from zero. Jones, Mitch Unrein and Sam Acho will be UFAs following the season. There will be snaps at DE available. Maybe sophomore Jonathan Bullard could step up in his third year. DE is like TE. It takes most guys several years to contribute.

ATL

Dontari Poe, Adrian Clayborn, Courtney Upshaw and Kemal Ishmael will all be UFAs. Ricardo Allen will be an RFA. If Damontae Kazee really takes off, maybe they let Allen walk. I think that’s a stretch though.

DEN

Todd Davis, Jared Crick and Corey Nelson will all be UFAs. That’s 2 ILB.

NO

Kenny Vaccaro, Rafael Bush and Alex Okafor will all be UFAs. Okafor is a big question mark. They’ve been trying to lock down that end across from Cameron Jordan for years. Okafor has been really solid, but if they let him walk, he could go back to a 3-4 OLB and lose a ton of value. That’s definitely something to watch. I have him on every roster.

WAS

Zach Brown, Mason Foster and Will Compton are all UFAs at the end of the year. Martrell Spaight was drafted in the 5th Round in 2015. He has already bypassed Compton on the depth chart. Washington could resign one of these guys and pair them with Spaight who’s under contract through next season. They already seem to think 4th Round rookie Montae Nicholson is their answer at S next to DJ Swearinger. Apparently, his draft stock was affected by a knee injury. Their safeties swap roles so Nicholson will play both Strong and Free during the course of a game. Also, if Kirk Cousins walks at the end of the season, Washington’s offense will most likely be terrible. In that case, having some of their IDP on your roster may not be a bad idea.

If you might be interested in an IDP only redraft league for next year shoot me a PM at some point. Have been in one the last 2 years and we have a great group.

It is a 12 team, free league on Yahoo

yes, this is an awesome thread.  Please keep us posted if you hear anything on Cory James.  With the byes this week, if he can't go I may have to drop James to pick up Bucannon but I know if I drop James, my brother will snag him in a heartbeat.

So, is Jatavis Brown still injured or did he lose his job ?

I thought he had a "full practice" on friday.

Jatavis was injured last week, only played about half the game, was limited in practice this week. I doubt he lost his spot, and would think the team is being protective of their best remaining ILB.

He played 34% of the snaps (20/58), less than last week.

Pullard 93%, Toomer 59%

And about being the "best", according to PFF he's been terrible all season.......well, actually all the Chargers LBs have been terrible.

He's been dealing with the ankle injury for 2 weeks now. To me, it sounds like they're hurting so bad at the position that JB is playing through an injury that requires more rest than he's getting (high ankle?), thus hurting his play, their defense, and FF owners alike.

I own him in one league and recall seeing him as Q most of the week with limited participation and "nursing" and ankle injury. Most likely, the source was this article on CBS since it actually uses the word "nursing".... still the best ILB they have, I assume.

He was limited on Wednesday & Thursday, full partecipant on Friday according to the Chargers so doesn't make much sense that he played less than last Sunday when he barely practiced.

But most important question, how exactly he's gonna get better with this strategy ?

That's purely conjecture on my part, so take it with a grain of salt. Still, he was clearly the top guy and it would be a surprise if he actually lost that spot, especially since Toomer has been surpassed by Pullard. It's kind of a mess, but it's also entirely possible that he was a full participant in a walk through practice and then was too sore to get a lot of action on game day. He was designated as Q and a (dreaded) game-time decision.

Again, it's all speculation, but my guess is he & the team are pushing to keep him playing when he shouldn't be.

That thud was James, Lee, morrow, and Adams value/relevancy (depending on league depth) bouncing off the pavement. Downgrade Karl Joseph some (though I do think Bowman has lost a step, he's made Ray Ray look super human this year)

As a Bowman and Foster owner this is one of those beautiful double-dip scenarios.  I'm also not fully convinced on Bowman, I've been saying since pre-season he's looked old and slow (along with Derrick Johnson).  That rumor that floated about Bowman getting released didn't just materialize out of thin air, and then when we saw him he clearly wasn't the same guy.  The question is how much of it is injury, and how much will he bounce back (and how fast)?  He's now in a potentially great situation, a team that desperately needs production from the position and zero quality competition.  85% of Bowman in that scenario could still be a low LB1.

Foster instantly becomes a must-start and likely LB1 once fully healthy.

I just hope this happens SOON...like this week soon. Lol. I'm waiting for him and Kwon to get healthy, and I really need both to be able to play this weekend. Byes are killing me, and it's hard to keep juggling and carrying more LBs than I should be carrying because of injuries.
