*** Official *** Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker (1 Viewer)

Can’t wait. We’ll be on a Disney cruise the week it comes out so we apparently will get to see it starting Tuesday.

I may as well get my black dot now...

ETA: because this thread is 100% guaranteed to suck after you geeks nerd it up

I enjoyed TLJ as well.  I made a decision a while ago to not take it all so seriously and just enjoy the fan service we're being given.  It's much more enjoyable that way.  Just seeing Luke Skywalker on a big screen again was enough for me.  Not gonna nitpick everything to death.

Same. For some reason I think a lot of people put it in a similar category of Ep 1 which is ridiculous to me.

I've enjoyed every new movie since TFA.

What are the main bullet points for why people didn't like it?
  • the "humor" was bad - ie the opening scene
  • the Luke force projection thing
  •  the Finn/Rose stuff was terrible (mostly the side mission)
  •  the blue cows and the annoying porgs
  •  the lack of vision overall for this triology
Not saying I agree with all of those, and I am sure I am forgetting some.

I think the Rose thing was most of it. Losers on the internet bullied her off of twitter bc they hated her role so much. The worst people on earth, or at least in the conversation.

I didn't like the Finn solo stuff,  but mostly for me it was #s 4 and 5.   Definitely not Ep1 and Ep2 level bad, that's for sure.

Wait what was the problem with the force projection thing? I thought it was awesome.
I think people had a problem with it coming out of the blue and never getting a hint that it was remotely possible Jedi's could do something like that.  Felt like a cop out of sorts to some people.

It was Rose/Finn for me. The whole storyline didn’t really work and I thought they’d have more for Finn to do. I liked Luke and the early humor and have never thought twice about 4 and 5.

I think for 5 Marvel has just set such a high bar.  It was just a bit disappointing to have 2 directors that didn't seem to care about what the other is doing while supposedly telling the same story for the 3 movies, that's all.  Felt a little like Johnson was like "#### that" in a couple spots of things that JJ set in motion in EP7.

Well that I can agree with. Probably should have been 1 set of eyes throughout.

Watched the trailer again. I'm wondering if they gave a little too much away at 1:50 in regards to how the Rey/Kylo conflict ends up.

It mainly abandoned the story from Episode 7 and made all the emotions that built to the final scene with luke and the lightsaber meaningless. Then the whole movie was a slow chase of a ship. Luke’s character in the film and flashbacks did not seem genuine. Casino world. Random force kid looking to the stars to end it?  Blah blah.

I loved it. I fast forward through the Finn goes off on an adventure scene now when I watch with my kid but it’s great.
Will have to give that a try. That side bar is just so bad and pointless to the overall story.

If you know with 100% certainty that you will see a movie, why would you watch a trailer?

I'm not criticizing anyone, I just dont get it.

Understand that. I generally avoid most of the time. This one was a guilty pleasure watch. :bag:

Princess Leia floating in space made me completely lose focus on what I was watching. I thought it was a joke.

Luke's character development went to a place that made no sense for a character that was pretty well established.

Rey has yet to face any challenge that indicates she will struggle, yet has had no training?

The guy that did TLJ completely disregarded everything for the sake of disregarding everything without a real reason other than to be different. Difference for the sake of being different is not quality. Difference in an effort to establish something better is. TLJ was the former, imo.

The comic relief aspects are meh.

I haven’t seen episode 2 in quite some time, but IIRC it at least as midriff padme so episode 8 is worse by default

space Leia, Poe prank call, Rose Tico and Amilyn Holdo all awful.  And really the whole casino jaunt

It's like The Old Man in A Christmas Story cutting a piece off the turkey before it's ready...you just need a LITTLE taste.

I don’t get that argument. Where has it been stated that we’ve already seen the limits to what a force user can do?  Luke’s probably in the upper echelon of all time force users and it makes perfect sense he could stretch his powers to do something like that.

I mean, everything came out of the blue. Palpating shooting lightning. Yoda lifting the X -wing. Force ghosts.  Those all sucked too because they came out of the blue?

Just bought tickets for opening night Thursday, December 19th, second showing at 6:45pm.

No internet spoilers to avoid!
