Government Response To The Coronavirus (7 Viewers)

The irony is that everything they are doing will only make the stock market worse. Without the proper messaging, it will be worse than it needs to be. Confidence that the government will be able to handle this is being destroyed by how they are acting.

If there is a deep state, time for them to step up and make sure these experts can get their message out to the American people.

Don’t blame Trump.  His campaign run was a goof.  A branding exercise to sell stuff.  He was on stage making fun of Rosie O’Donnell and handicapped people.

He tried hard to tank it.

Blame Rupert Murdoch for endangering us all to sell ad space to reverse mortgage companies and other con-men.

So, he hasn't been already?

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

I am fully prepared to use the full power of the Federal Government to deal with our current challenge of the CoronaVirus!

Oh good.  Another generalized statement that his base can cheer, fart, and scratch themselves to.

There's nothing there.  That's not a message.  There is no substance, no plan.  It's empty.

“Dr. Fauci, who is testifying on Capitol Hill, just said there should be no large crowds,” Fox Business host Stuart Varney informed McEnany.

“Look, we have the commander-in-chief, we have the best health experts,” McEnany insisted. “We’re taking this day by day. We’re currently proceeding as normal. Joe Biden is suspending his rallies. He’s been dying to get off the campaign trail. He can only speak for seven minutes.”

“You will immediately be accused of chaos in the White House,” Varney interrupted. “The president goes ahead with holding his rallies. His top doctor — top medical guy — says don’t go with big crowds. I mean, you’re immediately going to be hit with this.”

“Look, the president is the best authority on this issue,” McEnany asserted. “He takes into consult the words of everyone around him.”

“So, I’ll leave it to the president,” she added. “Joe Biden is looking for an excuse to get off the campaign trail. And let me just add, the media’s best hope is for Donald Trump to suspend his rallies. They’ve been wanting to stop this, his avenue to speak directly to the American people.”

So sad. More conspiracy crap.
Let him have his rally.  Once everyone is inside, quarantine the building.  If it's just the flu they have nothing to worry about, they can consider it a cruise ship on land.  We can air drop food and supplies.  Oh, and let's not count the numbers from that building in our counts.

I work in one of the larger federal departments.

Let me just say that leadership internally has been . . . disappointing.  We aren't allowed to cancel travel (officially), we aren't allowed to encourage telework (officially), we aren't allowed to talk to our staff about it (officially).

I attended a 3 hour coronavirus meeting this morning discussing planning and response at the local government level.  Our State (Idaho) has not had a positive test, and following the lead of our Commander in Chief, our current threat is deemed low despite our proximity to Washington, Oregon, and California.

An ER doc stated at this meeting that when he examines a patient with coronavirus symptoms, he can only take a sample, which he then sends to a private lab for possible testing.  The private lab gets tests from the FDA and the CDC.  Since there are only a limited number of tests available in our State (1,000 TOTAL), testing is prioritized by the lab to be done on only the most severe, heavily symptomatic cases.  He estimated that due to this screening process, for every one patient presenting with coronovirus symptoms, which are often mild or moderate, there are hundreds who are not tested.  He finally stated that when our State announces its first confirmed coronavirus case, it will be statistically likely that we have 1000-1500 actual cases statewide.  This process and the significance of that first positive test was echoed by other State and regional health officials at the meeting.

Until we have a positive test in our State, the State is declining to make any mandates or even recommendations as far as travel restrictions, school closures, or public gatherings.   Similarly, no federal mandates or recommendations will be forthcoming until then because we are considered "low risk".  They know it's only a matter of time, but they don't want to create "panic" based upon a "lack of evidence and data", which, of course, is tied directly to the lack of tests being performed on symptomatic patients in an attempt to keep the number of reported cases low.  Just wash your hands and don't touch your face kids.

In the meantime, local governments are free to do whatever they feel is necessary, which will result in disproportionate responses from city to city and county to county.  The lack of available testing, information sharing, transparency, and a coordinated response is astounding and we are starting to see some "panic" amongst our more vulnerable populations.  This is not what good leadership looks like.

I'm sure the two bolded statements are coincidental.

In other words, you're low risk until you have a confirmed case via testing, but you can't test at will because you're low risk and have no confirmed cases.  Makes sense.

Where are you seeing that?

To date I've only seen Dayton and Clev
NCAA released a statement like 10 minutes ago.  It's legit.

Ohio, Seattle, and Houston probably didn't help.  But now it's official across the board.

Is it even worth holding the tournament at all?  Even limiting those present to players, coaches, staff, refs, stadium personnel, etc.  Unnecessary travel amirite?

We can wait a couple of weeks till some of the players catch it and then cancel in the middle.  Maybe that would make people feel better?

Hope they move the games out of those huge domes.  Its awful for players already shooting...now add in those places being empty.

Who's he going to throw under the bus during his oval office address tonight?

Politico reports that Trump's coronavirus task force has discussed an emergency declaration, but will not give Trump its final verdict on one until Jared Kushner "finishes his research and comes to a conclusion himself."

Up here in Canada our government is making the same mistakes that were made below the 49th.  Not enough cases to take drastic action.  Risk assessment?  Low.  Right.  we have about 100 cases that will soon balloon into thousands and by then it will be too late.  Private sector are taking the lead on preparedness.  Schools starting to close and universities going all online.

I expect an explosion up here in the next couple of weeks.

I think they're going to move it to smaller venues and allow some family.  Hopefully adds some normalcy.

I bet his solution is to buy off the virus by ceding it authority over the areas it already occupies and hoping that it doesn't continue to expand occupation.

Politico story

"Trump’s concern at this point is that going further could hamper his narrative that the coronavirus is similar to the seasonal flu, said the three people familiar with the discussions."
