Your logic is impeccable, however the right-to-life advocates consistently argue that they want to punish doctors who perform abortions, not women who have them.  This is because punishing women who have abortions is very unpopular.

The abortion thing is a classic washington gaffe, where he accidentally told the truth.  Of course if abortions are illegal, you have to punish women for having them.  Unfortunately arresting women for having abortions polls poorly so the right-to-life movement has to pretend that they won't...

No one's changing any minds here, I'm just registering my opinion.  It's baffling to me that so many people can get taken in by this self-promoting blowhard.  It's hilarious what he's done to the Republican party.

On topic, I'll be voting for Bernie in CA but I'm sad that I think we're stuck with Hillary.  I'm heartened that a genuine leftist has gotten as much traction as he has, though.
