‘Twas the Night Before Draft Day (2 Viewers)

I don’t mind the 1.02 move esp when you like Dalvin. It allows you to go earlier in the second and take some chances on what HSG will do throughout the draft (oh he already has XYZ, so I can wait on that type of thing).

I didn't mind it at all! :pickle:

Start 1 QB league for one, and here's the thing - IDP league with heavy defensive scoring, so LBs & DBs start going in the 5-6-7 rounds, so specific picks like Lance won't really be helpful. You have to consider an 8th round WR in IDP is roughly = 5th round receiver in D/ST leagues.

So...that said...Lance went in the 15th round. Figure that's like a 10-12th round pick?

His QB2 behind Prescott, so he's ok at QB.
You quoted yourself.

‘Twas the night before draft day and all though the league

Not a soul was asleep despite their fatigue.

My wife in her nightie, rolled to her side

While I studied the stats and checked on the Byes,

When what to my spreadsheet should suddenly appear,

But a sleeper that moved to the top of his tier.

More rapid than eagles were his yards after the catch,

And I knew that this player would be hard to look past.

And how had I grown so adept and so wise?

By swimming with sharks on a site called FootballGuys.

Thanks to the posters who visit each day,

And thanks to Joe Bryant for paving the way.

And now I’ll say to all on the site,

Happy Draft Day to all, and to all a good night!

That was quite a draft.

Couple dudes got way too lit & their drafts suffered for it.

I felt like I had my best draft, maybe ever. At least I stuck to my plan & trusted my rankings. I stayed flexible & went 9 rounds without a defensive player - and still have a defense that’ll compete, and at lower risk since I drafted them later.

Never imagined I’d be picking 1st, and felt like solid value fell to me most rounds. Enough that I could afford a risk at TE to really go for the upside.

Starting CMC -> Ridley -> Mixon -> DJ Moore -> Pitts -> Henderson -> Higgins -> JaWilliams -> Stafford was just about perfect per my plan. I knew if I took TE early something needed to give & I love Stafford’s value this year. He may not be top 5, but I think he’ll put up some top 5 weeks. Tua may well stream some weeks for me. Love the upside there, too. And crazy depth at WR & RB as well. There was a mid-draft run on IDP, and at one point I was choosing between Mooney, Gallup & Hardman as a WR4, and got them all as WR4-5-6. 😳

The only weird result is the pairings. I didn’t really target players so much as BPA; and I inadvertently ended up with 4 pairs of teammates. Which gives me 4 weeks with tricky BYEs.

- Stafford + Henderson

- CMC + DJ Moore

- Ridley + Pitts

- Mixon + Higgins

Theoretically I should have a share of most of the Rams TDs, A good chunk of the Falcons TDs, a good chunk of the Bengals TDs & a good chunk of the Panthers TDs.  I kinda don’t mind how it ended up. The only place I attempted to avoid it was passing on Chase at an ok value.

But a very fun draft day & I’m happy with the results of my months of efforts to try and figure this stupid game out.

Posted the full team in the “that dog’ll hunt!” topic.

I may change my mind on how this team is and how my draft was several times during the season as the FF gods smite me, but at the moment I’m content. I was able to hang with my oldest friends, (a few others stopped by just for a beer and a look at the draft board). talk some trash, eat & drink way too much, & finish the night on a good note with this update.

May all of your upcoming drafts bring you this much joy.

ps - the FBG draft buddy tool rated it an A+, best in the league. Next best was an A-, and everyone else got B’s & C’s.  A lot of managers got too cute this year. Team 12 went 6 rounds without a RB. The result isn’t pretty. At the break he was disappointed that everyone kept grabbing his zero RB targets. It’s a hard strategy at the turns with 22 picks in between. Incidentally, he got the A-. Crazy.

The real question is did you get deebo, Shenault, Boyd,

or Meyers?  And if not why?

No, nope, nada and nooo.

Deebo went a round earlier than ADP & I didn’t really want him. Shenault isn’t a guy I was targeting & I was loaded at WR. Boyd was one of the steals of the draft, but like Chase, I felt like I was already very invested in Bengals. Meyers was also a late bargain but I already had 6 quality WRs & needed defense where he went.

I like it.  Scary to have the dependence on Pitts, but you could dominate if he meets expectation.  Other scary element is the potential that McVay falls in love with Michel.  Having said that, you're winning vs plan.

I mean; that’s all we can do is make a plan & trust that it’s a good plan.

I made a plan & it went better than planned. And picks 2-3 should net me extra points at their positions to absorb if others fail to meet expectations.

I think Pitts is an acceptable risk. His upside is “league-winning” and I seriously doubt he blocks. Ever. And the latest report has him lining up all over the field to creat mismatches. Which is just more of the same message I want to hear.

Having drafted Ridley though it might have been better to diversify. We’ll see. In the heat of the moment I thought the risk was worth it.

Good luck today! I know how you’re feeling right now: :excited:
Thanks man.  If was fun reading about yours yesterday.

I’ve been running this league since 1999 with about a half the guys in it from the beginning.  We lost one of them last year extremely unexpectedly (he was only 43) just before the draft and it was also the first year we didn’t do it in person.  So it will be the first time we’ve all hung out in 2 years.  Will be some heavy hearts missing our friend but also some hugs, smiles and plenty of #### talking.   We also have our buddies brother serving as the auctioneer this yr.   Really cant wait.

Awe man, that’s heavy. 43 is waaaaaay too young.

Your league echoes mine a bit. 20+ year league & 80% original members.  We went online last year & we all hated it. This was our first year back and it was awesome.

Sorry to hear about your friend - y’all should make it the 1st order of business to name the league in some way to honor him. 💡

Its my first draft of the year eve for me.

  :football:

My first draft of the year tomorrow night at 9pm eastern.

Let's go~!

 TZM

What an absolute blast yesterday.  Nothing better then an in person auction draft with long time friends.   Hope all of your draft days are as good as as mine was!

My auction tomorrow.  How about some info on yours?  Player going too high,  going to low?  anyone into adult beverages?

1st auction with buddy league about 6 years ago.  Bar reserved a whole section/room for us.  I thought the draft was at 5:00 PM so I got there at 3:00 to get a prime spot.  Draft started at 7:30 PM.  I got predictably blotto & ended up with 1 RB.  Picked up Blount on waivers the next massive hungover morning & he scored 18 TDs that year.   cool stuff that DOES happen.

I really hope this is a typo and should have been LB's and DL's.   There is absolutely no reason to every reach for a DB in an IDP draft.  They are a dime a dozen and always have plentiful options off the waiver wire.  They are the K's of IDP.

DL’s - it wasn’t a typo, it was a “too much bourbon” post.

DBs started going in the 10th-12th.

Why on earth 1.02? What ####### reason could he have possibly had?

If you really don't care between Cook and CMC I see no issue making someone else pick and then taking whoever is left.  It also allows you to plan a little bit around the bookend and get your pick of the top 4 candidates each turn and maybe play a bit with choice  based on the turns roster construction.  I sometimes like being just ahead of the turn in drafts.

I’d love to help you but honestly my league is pretty specialized due to the keepers and how we run it so I’m not sure the values would translate to be helpful. But CMC, Dalvin Cook and Zeke were on the board we’re all over paid for. But that’s not surprising and I expected it.

The last five years we’ve done it at a bar that blocks off the back area for us too. The vast majority of my league are all food and beverage service people so we have lots of connections. Because we’re all service industry heavy drinking is commonplace.   Lol
There was quite a few rounds of shots in dedication to the friend we lost from the league last year. So drinking was extra heavy this year.

That, and Waller, were basically the gist.

Hey, he had a plan. Worked out great for me!
