#1 Waiver Priority (1 Viewer)

So, I have Jacobs. I have a $1000 blind bidding budget. It is a 14 team league. Jacobs was my #2 RB. What should I put out for Ward? I'm thinking $500 to make sure I get him. I know it's a high bid, but without Ward, I'm left without a RB 2.Thoughts?
Not to  or send this to the AC forum, but did you not draft a backup RB?

he's not on most shark pool waivers if the preseason hype machine is any indication, but in smaller leagues if Ronald Curry is out there (he is on a friend of mine's league) id say pay what it costs.

he may be as close as we'll get to "this years Colston"

Ah yes, I knew this would come. It is a 14 team league where I drafted 1.13 with 3rd round reversal. Picks went:Rudi 1.13TO 2.02Jacobs 3.02Plaxico 4.13Santana Moss 5.02Moss was a much better option than taking a scrub RB then. Droughns was taken in the 9TH ROUND! I understand what you're saying, but RBs went fast and being at the end of a draft in a 14 team league, I'm sure you can understand RBs would be scarce.

Agree. I am in a 10 team league with 16 player rosters. There are some very interesting free agents available right now, including Chris Brown, Ron Curry, Randle El, and Welker.I hadn't really focused on Curry before, but I was just doing some statistical work on him and I think he has a lot of upside this season (if he doesn't get hurt).Curry caught 70% of his targets last year, despite playing on a team with a ridiculous offense and terrible quarterbacking, which tells me he was really getting open and catching the ball when thrown to him. Overall, Oakland's QBs completed just under 55% of their passes vs. an NFL average of 59.8% (for QBs) last season. So when you consider how awful the passing game was last year, Curry's performance is really pretty eye-popping.Add a new coach who is familiar with modern passing offenses, add two semi-servicable QBs, subtract one Randy Moss (making Curry the #1 receiver and adding targets) and you get a recipe for a very substantial upgrade in productivity. This all goes out the window if the Raiders try to play JaMarcus Russell at any point, but that is looking pretty unlikely at this stage.

Here is what this thread is for:If Bradon Jacobs is indeed done for the season, then Derrick Ward is the obvious choice here. However, if Jacobs is only supposed to be out for the now reported 3-5 weeks, does that still make Ward the unnanimous choice for people with WW #1 priority?Discuss.
I used to deliberate hard on this one. Now, I believe that this is the type of situation where you use a high WW pick for a guy like Ward in his situation. What if Jacobs won't be back in 3-5 weeks, or is not completely healthy when he returns. At worst, if Ward continues to run well, we probably see RBBC. Also, when Jacobs returns, you may be able to trade Ward to the Jacobs owner for good value. I would use a high WW pick on Ward if I had it.
)in smaller leagues) i think c. brown is a better pick up than ward, esp if eli is out for awhile. i realize he's probably not available in 12 team or larger leagues.

I have the #1 waiver priority and both Chris Brown and Ward are available. Not sure if I should shoot my wad over either one of these guys. Although I am hurting at WR2 (Brandon Jackson, Chester Taylor, Tatum Bell). You guys think it's worth it?

I'd take Brown in a heartbeat.

I'll be using my #1 priority on Brown. Originally leaned toward Curry, but I'm more impressed with Brown's performance on the road against a good rush D vs. Curry's performance at home against an awful pass D.

And Brown has enough RB2 potential to be worth using the #1.

Wrong forum Diggler but Pitt United's advice is spot on.
I guess it did come out like a WSIS quesiton, but really my question is more general. Is Chris Brown worth spending the #1 waiver pick for all of us lucky enough to have it. Basically do you all think CB will be this year's Colston or Gado? If not, then I might stand pat.

We are on sportsline and use the inverse of the power rankings each week. I have never heard of the reverse of the draft order. Ours resets each week. Teams who do not pick up someone do not move up. use or lose.

atcdav we've established that not all leagues use this method of waivers, but the majority of leagues' waiver orders do not reset every week. rather it is a continuous merry go round all year whereby every time someone makes a waiver claim they fall to the bottom, and those who make no claims slowly move up the rank. I think the point of this thread is to identify those free agents which come out of nowhere, and are worthy of blowing your #1 waiver pick which you either patiently waited for, or held on to for several weeks. at least that's how I see it.

I'm struggling with a similar decision. With a 6 RB roster restriction in a keeper league, I am trying to decide if Chris Brown is more valuable than Deshaun Foster, Lamont Jordan, Brandon Jacobs, or Michael Turner. Obviously, he is more valuable than Turner now, but, again, this is a keeper league. Between Foster, Jordan, Jacobs, or Brown it seems like a crap-shoot to me. Perhaps I'm better off adding Curry.

Congratulations, this thread is not for you.
