Koya

Footballguy
You have 10 Athletes to choose from all sports, any era / year.

They will compete in baseball, football, basketball, hockey, soccer, track and field, European handball, tennis, swimming, wrestling (by class), boxing (by class) - any other suggestions will be considered - basically a measure of best all-time athletes by both team and individual measures.

Who do you choose? And why?

My first stab:

Jim Thorpe

Jesse Owens

Bo Jackson

Hakeem Olajuwon

Wilt Chamberlain

Orr or Howe probably (better overall athlete than the Great One?)

Roger Staubach

Pele

Deion Sanders (loathe as I am to say it)

Lawrence Taylor

Jessie Owens - track and field

Bo Jackson - football, baseball

Ali - boxing

Jordan - basketball, will to win

Herschel Walker - football, wrestling

Gretzky - not sure if any of these other guys can skate

Michael Phelps - swimming

Jim Brown

Pele - soccer

Jackie Robinson - baseball and all-around

Also considered:

Federer - tennis

Carl Lewis

Deion Sanders

Bill Russell - I could see him dominate handball

I'm sure I'm overlooking someone obvious

will they all be competing in the same events?
Im open to tweaking the rules, but let's say you have to fill a team for all the major sports, and to at least a good degree, all players will be needed in each game (i.e. a first and second team in basketball, call football 7 on 7, not trying to over over think this).

Just give me some hot pole vaulting chicks and that one sprinter dark haired hottie that did the jumping around warm up thing.

Not a bad strategy. Not bad at all.

Tom Glavine could probably garner some consideration. Baseball HOFer and could have been a very good hockey player as well. Also a very good golfer.

Danny Ainge. Only person ever to be a first time HS All American in baseball, basketball and football. Wooden award winner as best college basketball player while concurrently playing 3 years with Blue Jays.
