I forgot to post last week's edition, so it's a double post. Inspired by Waldman, I'm doing an interview series at CheeseheadTV.com where I do their NFL analysis. Last week I interviewed Alfie Crow of BigCatCountry.com and this week it's Chris Hansen of RaidersBlog.com.

So, a little extra insight as you prep for your drafts....

Mixing football and A Dance of Fire and Ice, that's bold stuff there. I love it.

Very much appreciate you sharing this interview with Chris Hansen of Raidersblog. I like his insights on where the Raiders are and where they are going.

A couple of things.

1) I'm not sure that Al Davis feels like he got burned losing Zach Miller. I think he has some crazy dysfunctional attachments to certain players. "Al Davis" guys, if you will. For whatever reason, Zach Miller wasn't one of his "guys". Remember, Al Davis is exceedingly generous to some of his players, so I don't think money was the issue here. My "out-of-leftfield" guess or conspiracy theory is that Miller was one of Cable's guys, and Al drew a line in the sand, so to speak. Old school mafioso stuff. There's a lot of pride behind the Raider shield and at its core is Al Davis's ego.

2) I know it's early, and Jason Campbell is always going to carry that "just an average QB" tag with him everywhere he goes. But consider this:

He's in his first back-to-back stable OC situation. He's had time this offseason to build on what he learned last year. He's the unquestioned starter, unlike last year. He's got a much better receiving core with potentially Hagan, Moore, and Ford all sure handed receivers on the field.

Garda, I know you study the game. So I ask you to do this. Go back and watch that Saints game. Notice Campbell's pre-snap reads, and how decisive Campbell was on that 91 yard drive. See how much faster he executed his decisions from the pocket. Notice the huddle is cohesive and nobody is sloughing off the field on substitutions. These are little things I know, but signals that Campbell is coming of age (I know he's a little late to the party, but not entirely his fault). Anyway, I won't oversell Campbell, but on that drive, if I blink my eyes I imagine I am seeing Peyton Manning. I know, it's a small sample size, but I am excited about Campbell's progress and especially Al Saunders playcalling. This is a much faster, more disciplined led offense in the hands of JCamp.

@wadsworth - thanks - when Alfie and I chat on Twitter, about half of what we talk about is football - the other half is almost always Game of Thrones. Couldn't resist.

@raiderfan - I'll go back and look. Two things i think about when I think about the Raiders and Campbell. 1) They liked him enough to cut ties with virtually anyone else who competed with him so they at least believe in him enough to give him the full ride 2) I don't think he fit in well with Cable. No real special insight just didn't seem like Cable's guy.

I've long believed that a fresh start can do wonders for a career (paging Alex smith) and it's possible with new coach Hue, Campbell can still compete. I'll go look at the Saints game and give him another look.

Thanks for the comments and reads guys.

Alfie posts constantly on the Jaguars board, you need to convince him to post here more often.

I think you are onto something there. Cable and HuJax weren't on the same page at the start of last season, and a QB controversy boiled underneath. I'm not sure if it was Campbell not being Cable's guy or not, (there was a lot of internal turmoil after the woeful Niners game). I don't hate Cable, but cleaning house of his reckless behavior was a good thing, even though the players loved the guy. Hue Jackson is a parent first, and friend later...just what the Raiders need now. Campbell is not playing catchup like he does every preseason, and that's a good thing.

Agreed. Plus he hits less people (allegedly).

Re-watched that first quarter again, and noticed that the Saints never had a high safety up top. When Campbell threw the deep ball to DHB, he was one on one, with no safety help whatsoever.

Campbell later threw that TD to Hagan, and the Saints defender was lined up waaay off, and once Hagan broke the tackle, there wasn’t anyone within 20 yards of him.

I guess I am tempering my optimism, but I think there's no way that the Saints DB's will play with no deep help in a regular season game. To do so was a huge slap in the face to our WR’s, but Campbell was able to exploit it, with a lot of crisp short passes to WR’s not named DHB. Tough to get an accurate feel from a preseason game.

What I found most interesting about the piece done by the Jaguars blogger Alfie Crow was the Jaguars lease situation with Everbank Field. Aside from an owner who doesn't want to sell, the franchise has to prove 3 consecutive years of operating losses to break the lease. What I would want to know now is if the television revenue the Jags receive from the shared television revenue is included in what determines operating losses. If it is, I would think it might be hard for the Jaguars to sustain consecutive years of operating losses because the television revenue from the new contracts that get signed is going up and up.
