10 Year Old Boy (son of Rep Scott Schwab) Dies On The Worlds Tallest Water Slide (1 Viewer)

It's just a horrific story - I can't imagine going to a water park to have fun and your son or daughter doesn't come home.  Just like the Disney story it is just very sad.  I don't really care who is at fault.
In the end all I can do is feel for those parents. So yes...of course. It goes without saying.

But when you son's head is basically taken off.....yeah I want to know who is accountable for that. Something went terribly wrong and understanding that is critical so rides like this...if they are indeed death causing are not allowed again.

If it was human negligence in the way of the park not taking the proper safety procedures....then there is some huge liability here and it needs to be dealt with.

Sorry - wasn't implying you shouldn't discuss or speculate.

The raft that was carrying 10-year-old Caleb Schwab was 15 pounds underweight at the time of the fatal accident, a police report has confirmed.

Schwab was killed on Aug. 7 when something went wrong during a ride on the Verruckt water slide at Schlitterbahn Water Park in Kansas City. An investigation by the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department revealed that the ride did not meet safety standards leading up to the incident, according to reports obtained by PEOPLE

The combined weight of the three passengers riding in the raft was 385 pounds. Ride requirements list the necessary weight as 400-550 pounds.

Schwab was in the raft with two women who were sisters. The two of them sustained facial fractures during the accident, one ending up with a broken jaw and the other a broken bone below her eye and a bruised eyeball.

Ten-year-old Schwab, who was ejected from the raft, was found dead at the bottom of the slide. Police have confirmed that the cause of death was decapitation.

As well as failing to meet weight requirements, an amusement park safety expert told PEOPLE that the restraints used on the rafts were also not suitable for a safe ride. Restraints reportedly rely on a hook-and-eye material similar to Velcro as the attachment.

The Schwab family's attorney has not made a statement since this new information was uncovered.

Just sad.  I have no funny,  snarky,  sarcastic, or otherwise humorous comments to make. This ride was a disaster in the making and never should  have been allowed to go forward

I have passed the park multiple times over the past week.  Slide needs to be torn down, can't decide if the park will/ should close.  I can't see my family ever going there again.  Can't imagine what the family is going through.

Operations director arrested for manslaughter.

At first i thought that seemed unreasonable, but after reading the indictment and all of the things that he completely ignored and then covered up, this guy has it coming.

I mean he literally destroyed like 6 reports in the days leading up to this of critical safety measures. Then he coerced people to lie.

Kansas letting this thing get built is another layer of ridiculousness too. A layman can see that it’s dangerous.
Most of this style of slide does a trap door like drop thing.

Have the designers heard of the law of conservation of momentum?

I watched something on the making of this.  The owner was super sketchy.  They failed a lot of times with dummy tests.  I always wondered why they just didn't harness the boat to the side of the slide with some kind of wheels so that it couldn't fly up.

They wouldnt even take a raft out if service that had been written up like ten times for lifting off. You think they were going to spend for that?
