Seems like once negotiations started he would have known he was on day 20 and then would have an idea of time. My understanding is he had no idea of time, seems like even opening negotiations gives guy in dark a huge advantage.

But do we really think there's much of a difference between 20 and 30 days? I'm not questioning whether there's side affects but is it exponential - I'm guessing they don't have enough scientific studies to really say due to not wanting to hurt the participants.
You're probably right it just seems to me those last portion would be the most difficult. Now I know that he somewhat knew how many days based on construction noises I'm backing down a bit from my stance. Losing all sense of day and time would be the hardest part for me to deal with mentally.
I do find it interesting that if Alati was truly in good spirits and had a decent concept of time why would he accept a settlement and not truly winning the bet. Yes he won money but he didn't truly accomplish his ultimate goal of making it 30 days. I think both sides were looking for an out and this settlement allows both parties to come out looking good.
