11 things that I hate in the NFL, fantasy and the media (1 Viewer)

5. Hank Williams - enough already. How many more years of this crap? Give me the classic start used in the Howard Cosell days.
When did they dig him up he died in 1953. It's Hank Williams JR. who does the cheesy MNF music :coffee:
Hank Williams for the uninitiated.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsJuI7OJNuw

Not a country fan but this song kills.

1) Warren Sapp's constant distracting mugging on Inside The NFL.

2) Noodly guitar solos heavy on the whammy bar that have for some unknown reason become iconic theme music for football.

3) Roided knuckleheads like Dan Hampton being given a stage (Jockocracy as Cosell put it).

4) Disproportionate Raider coverage in LA. They're from freaking Oakland! The Rams don't get this kind of attention. I don't get it..

5) Tony Siragusa suddenly laying it on thick with his Tony Soprano dialect now that it's presumably in vogue to sound like your from Bensinhurst.

Love this thread.

The Hank Williams Jr. thing where he cocks his fist is particularly annoying. To be honest, I can't think of on other song this guy has ever done.
Also does "A Country Boy Can Survive", which seems to be fairly well-known. Probably helped that it's Matt Hughes' entrance song in the UFC.

Not enough media people like Mark Schlereth who will rip the NFL and speak his mind and not ### kiss and tip toe around the subject.

Roger Goodell

The wussification of the sport. The refs and the edicts that have down from the league office this year are terrible.

1. John Gruden's superlatives

2. Sean Payton's gum chewing

3. TD dances...especially when their team's down by 20.

4. Tackle celebrations...especially when their team's down by 20.

5. The fact that the 8:20 game on Sunday night doesn't start at 8:20.

6. The fact that the 8:30 game on Monday night doesn't start at 8:30.

7. The NFL's overuse of ultra-slow motion in their ads.

8. 10am - 1 PM ET on Sunday.

9. Making the wrong lineup decisions.

10. The addiction that is FF.
The bolded. First thing that came to mind. Along with that, no offense West-coasters, but the fact that on a freakin' Monday night football doesn't start till 8:50ish..... Tuesday's are awful because of this.

I don't get the hate for berman. Its two minutes.

We all hated Madden when he was broadcasting and I can say I miss him. You don't know what you got till its gone.

1. The day after the Super Bowl.

2. The day after the NFL Draft.

3. That Marv Albert still is only doing NFL games on radio...should be on the main broadcast.

4. The initial announcement of contract numbers when a player signs a big deal (i.e: McNabb's contract which essentially turned from WAS making a big commitment to him, to WAS being able to jettison him this off-season for peanuts).

5. The obsession over putting a team in LA. I don't care where the teams play, so long as the current conference/division students stays in place.

Gruden is just brutal as an announcer. Never commented on a player/coach he doesn't love. I know why he's this way...but if he's not going to be critical of ANYONE, get him off the game. The slobber-fest sucks.

What, no Matt Millen as a featured analyst on Monday Night Football/ESPN? :goodposting:
Seriously. Why would anyone in the USA care about the opinion of the man that engineered an 0-16 team?Seriously? The NFL network deems him worthy of delivering analysis to their fans? Really ?!?!?!

Just for the hell of it. Not in any particular order:

1. The Dallas Cowboys/Jerry Jones

2. The theme music on Sunday Night Football. Awful.

3. Joe Theisman - I thought we got rid of that guy.

4. Mike Singletary's coachspeak/rhetoric.

5. Hank Williams - enough already. How many more years of this crap? Give me the classic start used in the Howard Cosell days.

6. The 1972 Miami Dolphins and their champagne crap.

7. Eli Manning's pouty, whiny face after throwing an incompletion.

8. Kickers in fantasy football

9. Al Davis, post-1980 Super Bowl.

10. The possibility/probability of a player's strike or lockout in 2011.

11. The interplay between Deion and Irvin on the NFL Network. When they're not paired up, they're just decent analysts. When they are on the same set, it turns into these two jibba-jabbin' back and forth.

Edit to add #11.
Huh. One year later, some of these have been fixed. Hoping the Pack handle #6. And even the Deion/Irvin issue seems to have relaxed a bit.

Wow, I am not so sure we want the Packers to take care of #6. At least now we get to here from the Dolphins undefeated season only when a team threatens that mark. If the Packers go undefeated, we would be subject to it year round by their fans.

Well I know I no longer have to listen to a possibly drunk blubbering fat tub of goo saying words that I used to see when I watched old episodes of Batman

I like Berman and Madden. It's all about the personality. In fact, Madden is one of my faves. He's football. Guys like Jaworski bore me. Nerdy know it all.

Suprisingly, I only have three at the moment:

1. Joe Buck - no explanation needed

2. Mike Pereira - why give this guy airtime - he is a meally mouth for the officials.

3. Goodell and his arbitrary fines commitee

1 Joe Buck

2 Replay review time taken. Some plays are obvious instantaneously.

3 Scoring play > commercial timeout > kickoff > commercial timeout

4 Steeler Nation

5 Time Warner's failure to secure a deal with NFL Network.

6 Quarterbacks being judged primarily by W-L records, Super Bowl trophies, etc.

7 Terrible and conservative coaching decisions. Primarily punting on 4th and short at opposition's 35-45 yard line. Also burning 2nd half timeouts before end of game scenarios or going for 2 early or often enough.

8 Refs making an absurd amount of penalty calls and making the game about them.

bolded parts are spot on.

definitely think that there should be certain replays that can be communicated as "obvious" by the booth upstairs without the ref having to run over to the monitor, put the headphones on, and watch four or five different angles.

My top 11.

1. Defensive players can not touch QB's without a penalty.

2. Defensive players can not touch a WR/TE past five yards.

3. The cost of going to a live NFL game.

4. Matt Millen for running my Detroit Lions into the ground for many years.

5. Joe Buck.

6. Overtime rule in games. Give each team a chance to score.

7. Throwback uniforms.

8. Television blackout rule.

9. In fantasy football, losing a great player early in the season, or five minutes into a game.

10. NFL network coverage of games.

11. Matt Millen on TV since the Lions went 0-16.

Lambeau Leap. It must be outlawed. Seriously, any similar theatrics by any other team would result in a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

Fines/penalties for celebrating anything. Seems too vague and inconsistent when dished out to players/teams. Some players are allowed to do more egregious celebrations and not be penalized for it where as other players do far less and have the book thrown at them.

Also wish they could change OT system to allow the full duration to play out before determining winning instead of sudden death.
