12 Years of MAGA Coming— Oh we're so pretty Oh so pretty Ah but now And we don't care (1 Viewer)

I'm not as optimistic as you are.
IK, I'm not optimistic at all. I hope I wind up another Chicken Little in the long line of Chicken Littles regarding our democracy and movements within it, but somehow I don't think so. We might be facing the reality of a true schism or other such thing. I do not know how it will wind up if we reach an impasse. Perhaps we need to honestly confront what schism and war means before we turn away from it. I hope we don't get to that point.

But I am not sanguine about our current situation.

We haven't yet reached the point - here - where those opposed to democracy are comfortable enough to voice those views but it's telling that some are noticeably absent during discussions about saving and improving our democracy.

That's better than a few other sites where, given the choice between conservative power and democratic outcomes, the former is increasingly the unapologetic choice.

The problem comes from the intellectual right, who have eschewed democracy in their writings about the ideal state. The American right, always accused of anti-democratic impulses, has had the dam burst on those otherwise muted impulses. The voices speaking for the right now seek to obtain illegitimate dictatorial/monarchical power instead of letting democratic means be the guider of decisions pertaining to the rights and duties of the citizenry.

They're outright saying it in print. Why shouldn't the sites you mention echo that? What you have here at this site -- for the most part -- is a bunch of former conservative intellectuals who are aghast at the illiberalism of the current right (and, let's be honest, the current left).

I'm not as optimistic as you are.  It's very possible that Trump simply accelerated a process that would have played out with or without him, but I think we'll look back on the 2016 election as the beginning of the end.  The Trump years basically broke both the Red Tribe and the Blue Tribe, and I'm not really seeing a good way to return to where we were as recently as 2015.

It’s way to early morning to be reading this sad reality.  Can we go back to talking ice cream and baseball please, I’d like to rebury my with some positive thoughts.

There's no point in asking, you'll get no reply
Oh just remember I don't decide
I got no reason it's all too much
You'll always find us out to lunch

Oh we're so pretty
Oh so pretty
we're vacant
Oh we're so pretty
Oh so pretty
A vacant

Don't ask us to attend 'cos we're not all there
Oh don't pretend 'cos I don't care
I don't believe illusions 'cos too much is real
So stop you're cheap comment 'cos we know what we feel

Oh we're so pretty
Oh so pretty
we're vacant
Oh we're so pretty
Oh so pretty
we're vacant ah
But now and we don't care

There's no point in asking you'll get no reply
Oh just remember a don't decide
I got no reason it's all too much
You'll always find me out to lunch
We're out on lunch

Oh we're so pretty
Oh so pretty
we're vacant
Oh we're so pretty
Oh so pretty
we're vacant
Oh we're so pretty
Oh so pretty ah
But now and we don't care

We're pretty
A pretty vacant
We're pretty
A pretty vacant
We're pretty
A pretty vacant
We're pretty
A pretty vacant

And we don't care

Awesome tune, but can we get some background on why you're posting it here? A comment on 21st Century America, perhaps?
