Exactly -- that's why I stocked up on good WRs rather than one RB stud. The problem with WRs is that for the most part they are not as consistant as RBs.
Exactly why almost all of my picks have cupcake matchups the first 2 weeks. To me, this was as important as the players themselves. The first 2 or 3 weeks is crucial. Your team must be better than thousands of other teams the first few weeks to have a chance. Each week that you advance, it gets easier because there are fewer teams to beat.Having said that... I have a bad feeling about how the winners will pan out. Whatever player has a monster week in week 1 will have to be on your roster, or you will be eliminated.Under this format you can be eliminated after a week or two although your WR might have a kick ### season. The same thing goes for sleepers. You need to have enough players that are going to produce week 1.
Of course, you could look at it the other way.The first 2 or 3 weeks, we trim from the original total # of teams down to 6000. You're right that you have to beat as many as 2000 people just to stay in. But if there are that many people, there are a lot of people who are going to have tough starts. You have more people to beat, but there are more people who will have bad week 1s or who took wild guesses on who they should start, or who made some kind of mistakes, or whatever else. You just have to be in the top 75%. Plus, if the contest gets fewer than 6000 entries, the rules state "all advance if we have less entries". So if there are fewer than 6000 entries, you may have week 1 immunity no matter what. On the other hand, if you make it to weeks 6-10, you have to beat 50% of the remaining teams, and they'll be tougher teams. And week 10, we cut from 250 to 64. That means you have to be in the top 25% of the remaining teams. After that, you'll be playing head to head, and we all know how variable that can be. So I would say weeks 1 and 2 are actually the weeks you could tank, and still survive, while week 10 is the week you have to worry about the most. The first 2 or 3 weeks is crucial.
