1883 - Prequel to Yellowstone (1 Viewer)

We’re a couple episodes in. Darker than I was expecting, but good. My cousin plays an extra but I haven’t spotted her yet.

We weren’t fans of Yellowstone, but we’re surprisingly liking 1883  a lot.  Can’t wait until the next episode.

Yellowstone is so over the top now. They're just making it up as they go, which is what I hate about most TV shows. They usually have a good story to start but when they get renewed they just start going all over the place and there is no story arc.

So far this feels more gritty and grounded and has a better pace to it.

Not a good look postponing episode 4 until next week and showing a behind the scenes look at the filming of 1883 instead.

Well said. Lure of more money to keep producing episodes is hard to resist.

Yeah.  Haven't seen the season finale yet of Y stone..Will tonight   But I feel it has jumped the shark a bit.  Jamie's baby mama out of trhe blue was the character that did it for me.   She pops in out of no where and all of a sudden is an expert on Jamie's dad, the family, the politics etc etc.  Nope.   Lame.   The environmentalist...Life in prison?  Oh come on give me a break.   Still  a good show, still like it, but it's showing it's age already,.

We are only just starting season 4 of Yellowstone but have been really enjoying 1883. I really liked how they tied them together in places, like when John kills the deer and James marks him with the blood the same way they did Tate in Yellowstone.

I thought she was the campaign manager that was on the show a couple seasons ago that Jaime got close too but then she left when things went to crap for him.  I was under the impression that is where she was from which would mean she does have knowledge of the political stuff going on as well as the Dutton family.  Maybe I am wrong but that was my impression.

Thats possible.......which would help.   Still don't like how shes gone for the length of a bible then pops back in and is the resident expert.  I mean it's not a deal breaker for me, still a good show.

I agree that the implementation was terrible.

Can I watch this without being caught up on Yellowstone (stopped after season 2)?
That was my question.  I have not seen one episode of Yellowstone.

Well, watching the Star Wars prequels or Clone Wars cartoons wouldn't have the same meaning without going in having seen the real Star Wars movies.
Sure.  You might miss a few Aha moments but if you haven't watched the other it doesn't mean the story isn't still entertaining or stand alone (except for some of the star wars prequels that were awful).

Well, I already answered your question upthread based on seeing all four complete seasons of Yellowstone and the first three episodes of 1883.  Can you watch 1883 without being caught up on Yellowstone (stopped after season 2)? My answer: Absolutely. I haven’t picked up on any cross references that would be particularly meaningful if you have even a cursory familiarity with Yellowstone (which you do).  And even that is not necessary, in my opinion. That could change later in the season, but that’s my perspective after three episodes.

I have only seen the first two episodes so I don't think I have seen any but I wouldn't be surprised if they pop up as the story goes along.  I am really not sure how the characters really fit quite yet as in Yellowstone they haven't done a bunch of historical Dutton family back looking but I could see it happening as they try and tie them together.  I still don't think you will need to know Yellowstone to enjoy 1883 even if that happens.

its interesting that they’ve made the daughter the central character, while it is likely that it’s the five year old son through which land will ultimately pass.

I'm watching without watching Yellowstone (didn't like it) and am enjoying 1883 so far.

We've been ripe for a good western TV show for a bit now, been a while since the last one (Deadwood?).

Correct.

OK.   Saw the season finale last night and darnit if it wasn't really good.

At the rate they are moving it's going to take them 8 seasons to get to Oregon.
Good. I’m in no rush to advance the storyline to the “what should we do next?” phase. Have a story. A beginning, a middle and an end. Don’t drag the #### out and ruin your project just to make more money.

still only on plus?
If you can dig deep and find $9 you can stream it. Just cancel when it’s over. Or wait until all of season one has dropped and binge.

The other alternative is to buy the whole season at $24.99

Thanks for letting me know how to run my finances..

Its like asking my wife a question

So the question I posed was -

still only on paramount plus?

At no point in your ramblings did you actually answer the question.... so that's a yes? I'm surprised you didn't tell me what Tina from the office had for dinner when she was watching the show

Touchy this morning.

Yes. Paramount+ or you can purchase it on Amazon prime.

Caught up the last 3 episodes last night. Very enjoyable so far.  Bits of humor added in. amazing scenery and lots of sadness.  No complaints about them focusing on Elsa.

On the one hand, I really like the story and it’s beautifully shot. On the other hand, it’s depressing as hell.

Indeed... though if they fluffed up what was an incredibly perilous journey I would have been pretty disappointed. I think it's got a solid balance of pain/challenge and hope/beauty.

I suspect they'll take the foot off the gas a bit and focusing on developing the characters a bit for the next couple episodes (vs killing them off) :)  .

Man this is a great show. It’s so much better than Yellowstone that I honestly can’t believe it’s made by the same person.

Also, this has really pointed out how spoiled I am. They woulda left my ### on the trail day 1.

Paramount Plus frequently has a free 1 month codes every few weeks that get posted on the internet. Current one I believe is TEENWOLF.

She might have the nicest smile I've ever seen. Gorgeous.

Sad episode.  I really liked his character. He brought some humour to a dark show.  Looks like the tone is going to turn even darker now based on the preview.

Excellent series.

Her being so ridiculously pretty is probably the most unrealistic part of the show but I as well have no problem with it.
I watch this show convincing myself they all have a miraculous supply of toothpaste, deodorant, and soap. Like manna from heaven (or the General Store).
