2 round mock draft in the books ! (1 Viewer)

Distributor of Pain
OK, I've got time to kill, so I decided to do something a little different. I'm going to do my mock version 2.0 in "real time" - so I'll put each team on the clock and then open a dialogue where homers can weigh in on team needs and desired picks. I will make the final decision, but will weigh the homer input heavily into making the choice. We'll see how a mock shakes out when it's not one guy doing it, but is actually crafted by the Shark Pool as a whole. Sound good? I am not going to project any trades, we'll just play it straight.

Of course, if this goes over like a fart in church, I'll bag it and just do another mock after free agency starts (whenever that may be)

Bush should be the pick, but I still think the Brick would make a more positive impact

I agree - that's why I have been projecting a trade down for weeks now, but unless we get some fans of other teams on here talking about a possible deal, we're going to have to pick for the Texans at 1.1, and I think they take Bush if they stay in this spot.

how long is the clock for each pick?
The more people get involved, the faster I'll do it - I wanted to keep it at 10-15 mins max per pick (with a quick lunch break in the middle) - that is, if I don't get sidetracked big-time by work - I'm in our satellite office today, so that's unlikely.

Reggie Bush. Anything else (since we're not projecting trades) is just wrong.
Agree 100%. I will break my rule and project a trade if I get several homers from each side pushing for it, but otherwise, it will get too messy. I can't see taking anyone but Bush here. Waiting a few more minutes for a dissenting opinion, and then I'm making it ***official***

Trade down with the Jets at #4. Get Abraham in the process. Good as gold.

Have the Jets take Bush. Leinart is a favorite, but Bush would win more games. Have the Jets cough up a second and their '07 first later in this round to land a QB. Seeing as the choice won't start before next year anyway, why not?

Not a fan of either team, but I really like the Jets offering #4 and Abraham for the #1.

Trade to the Jets makes sense for Houston. (not a homer though)

given that the Jets will likely trade Abraham to Denver instead of Houston, I have to go with Reggie Bush to Houston.

Stick to this. We aren't going to agree on what any team will do in a trade, so let's try to keep it simple.

Not a homer. But I think the Jets should trade up too. Jets #1, Abraham, and next year #2 for Houston #1.

I really don't think just Abraham will be enough for Houston to trade.

I think the Jets should take Bush.

The Jets trade is one I have projected for months, but Jet fans have killed me on it, saying the Lets will only trade down, not up.

You're probably right.

With the first pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans select :

Reggie Bush, RB, USC

Comments (please, all, feel free to add your own) : Bush gives them a ridiculous 1-2 punch in the backfield, but still no run blocking for either of them....

The New Orleans Saints are on the clock at 1.2 I like Leinart here, but again, am open to suggestions.....

..and unrealistic..

1.02 - Leinart.

I like Young, a lot. Probably more than Leinart, but the Saints need a QB more ready to step in and start soon. An intelligent game manager is preferable to a high risk prospect.

Leinhart's a :IBTL: here.

I agree.

With the second pick in the NFl Draft, the New Orleans Saints select Matt Leinart, QB, USC

Finally, New Orleans has a heady QB who won't make huge mistakes in crucial moments. the first step back to respectability - he has some weapons there, and with a healthy McAllister, the Saints could surprise.

Tennessee is on the clock. I like Vince here, what do you think?

P.S. Picks will be updated in the first post.

Anyone favor Ferguson here? I've seen that talk, but I can't imagine the Titans pass over a possible franchise QB that has ties to McNair...

1.03 is Vince Young. As we know, he'd be in a great situation of being able to sit a year behind Steve McNair.

OK, with the 3rd pick, the Titans select Vince Young, QB, Texas

McNair's protege comes to Tennessee to take over the team after sitting for a year or two behind McNair/Volek.

Jets are on the clock - talk about a team with needs - they're everywhere for this club. Ferguson? Mario Williams? Ngata? Huff? Who will the Jet fans boo this year?

All of this Vince speculation is useless until he throws at his Pro Day. If he flops there which some think he will, his value will plummet.

I'm not buying the sudden love for Jay Cutler in this spot either though. Peter King actually put on paper that the Jets might have to trade up to #2 to get Cutler. :lmao: :lmao: I like his writing and read every week but he is a buffoon.

I would really like to see Ferguson here. Maybe with Hopkins being cut there is some indication that Vince is not a sure thing in this spot.

1.04: Da Brick

I could see Mario, but who knows what could happen if Pennington stays healthy? Brick should help with that.

I'd favor Ferguson here but I think the Titans will take Young. Volek is a servicable QB and he could carry the load for 2-3 years while the Titans rebuild.

I agree with you on the Cutler thing. The Jets just restructured Pennington to a $3 million base. That seems to me that they still want the guy to start. He has another $6 million in incentives in his contract.... it just seems that they're planning on handing him the keys back, not drafting a QB.

D'Brick is the pick at 4. I think we can get a little better discussion out of the 5-10 picks because they are not so clear cut.

With the 4th pick, the New York Jets select D'Brickashaw Ferguson, OT, Virginia

Getting a cornerstone LT may help keep Pennington's career alive. I still think they trade out of this spot, up or down, but for now they go with the best player on the board.

That brings up Green Bay at #5. Needs include LB and DE - seems like Mario Williams and A.J. Hawk would be the two considerations here - anyone disagree? Which player do you like here?

Very dissapointed in your pick. Thought there was a chance you might be forward thinking. Instead you follow the sheep.Vince Young would be a very bad pick here but you wouldnt know it for a couple of years because he wont play til then.

Ferguson is the only pick for the Jets.

How come the Jets dont get crap for picking D-Lineman in the first round every year like Detroit gets for picking WR's?

2000 John Abraham & Shaun Ellis

2002 Bryan Thomas

2003 Dwayne Robertson

I think the Jets fans would riot if they picked Mario Williams

I'll vote for AJ Hawk. I think he's the best Defensive player in the draft and although Barnett is on the Packers, there's enough room for both of them.

I don't think it's matter of sheep mentality, I just think that with the ties that Young has to McNair, the giant upside of Young, and the Titans need for a QB (don't think they're sold on Volek going forward) that the pick makes too much sense. I'm not going to make wild projections just for the sake of being different, I try to project how I think things will really go.

Green Bay.......THis is the first tough one.

I believe GB selects Williams. However, this isn't about predicting is it?

They should take AJ Hawk. (My pick)

EG....are we predicting what each team does or pretending we are the team GM at time of the pick and maiking our own pick for them?

If I ran the Jets I would take Jay Cutler . I think Pennington is done. But since I don't , I expect them to take D'Brickashaw Ferguson .
