What is the FBG'ers opinion on going after both Welker and Vincent Jackson in the middle to late rounds of the draft? And then get someone like Edelman with a late pick if available.

If Welker returns healthy and if VJax decides to return this year, despite VJax missing 4 games due to suspension, these are both top 3 round draft picks (in a PPR 12 teamer) that you are getting so late.

All that needs to happen for you to be successful is hit a HR on one of these 2 picks....if you hit on both => Championship.

When is the last time a player sat out a year due to a contract dispute?

Anyone else thinking of swinging for the fences with these 2 picks....

I am really considering the Welker/Edelman side of it, but I have a feeling Welker is going to go higher than I want to risk it.

The same will probably happen with Vjax. They are determined to sit out....they even mentioned the whole year, but I really doubt that happens...the player has too much to lose by not getting credit for a year of NFL service, however I think he sits out till week 10 (which is just too long to wait for him with the small roster that I have in my money league)

More likely to report week 8 or not at all.
League sources said Friday that Vincent Jackson and Marcus McNeill have received letters informing them of the Chargers' intentions to place them on the Roster Exempt List if they do not sign their tenders by Aug. 20.

A player on the Roster Exempt List is ineligible to play for three games following the day he signs. The Chargers used the tactic with tight end Antonio Gates to end his 2005 holdout.

That is unlikely to be the result with Jackson or McNeill, according to sources.

McNeill and Jackson have skipped the entire offseason and have not reported to camp. Unhappy with their contract status, sources close to the players maintain they are preparing to sit out the entire season.

However, there was the possibility one or both could report after the Chargers' 10th game and be on the roster for the six games required to earn an accrued season.

If they fail to sign by Aug. 20, which is virtually certain, and are placed on the list, McNeill and Jackson would have to report by Week 8 (after the Chargers's seventh game) in order to get their six games and accrued season.
Considering this doesn't even take his DUI suspension into account, I don't think Jackson will be playing much this year, and probably won't be able to contribute to a FF team until late in the FF playoff season, if at all.

Santonio Holmes is another one that falls into this category, except he'll be back much earlier in the season (well, not a holdout threat, anyway) and will be the undisputed #1 target, albeit with a much less accomplished QB

If you can get VJax in the 9th or later, then I say go for it. But he's been going as early as the 7th in mock drafts I've done.

I'm high on Welker. 4th-5th round seems like good value to me. He's gone as early as the first half of round 3; that's too high for me.

Meh. I don't think Welker is that much of a risk....unless something came out recently that I've missed, he looks likely to be ready for the regular season. I wouldn't bother waiting on VJax. He averaged 1150 yards and 8 tds the last 2 years. Nice numbers, but not spectacular. Not sure he maintains that pace after missing half the season. You wind up with a good #2 receiver for cheap. Personally, I prefer having those spots available for waiver wire pickups. Not sure I'd have ended up with the NYG Steve Smith early last season if I were waiting on another player.

Braylon Edwards and Cotchery down?
