2006 NFL DRAFT (1 Viewer)

I hate the Cowboys draft so far. They better get something decent with that 4th round pick.

This 2nd TE thing is such bull####. It shows they are still delusional about their development and FA pickups. Sigh.

Still available:

S: Simpson, Bing

OG: Jean-Gilles

OT: Jon Scott

TE: Byrd

WR: Avant, Demetrius Williams, Stovall

DT: Gabe Watson, Rod Wright, Orien Harris

Rod Wright's a possibility, too.
I meant to say Anthony Smith. Somebody who knows better talk me into this guy.
Anthony Smith is a guy the Steelers just fell in love with last week. They went through every Syracuse game and became very impressed, but they couldn't find his sixth blocked kick. They callled him and asked if it was 6 or 5. He told them which game to watch, it was 6. They watched, flew him out, and fell in love. According to Syracuse fans, this kid is amazing. I can't add much more. He's a little undersized. He's very smart. He makes a ton of plays. I trust the Steelers braintrust more than any...

As soon as I posted that I found an article stating what you posted. And I agree about trusting the Steelers' braintrust. I just wasn't zoned in on him.

The Niners have been having a nice draft, but it seems to me that here in the third could've shorn up the D some more by grabbing Ko, Bing or maybe Wright. I know they need to add a wideout and I hear Williams is pretty talented, but there are sooo many WRs still on the board (Demetrius Williams, Stovall, Avant, Orr, Aromashodu, Brandon Marshall, Greg Lee etc etc)

Surely a solid player would've still been there for them in a pick or two. Guess they really rate Brandon Williams highly.

that thud was me falling out of the chair...

who did the pats just get? Dave Thomas from Wendy's???

His Bio was hard to swallow just now...

Thomas was a frustrating player to evaluate because he has many of the receiving skills that is wanted in a tight end, but he lacks the all-around skills and athleticism to be an impact player in the NFL. He has decent height for a tight end, but is thin and lacks the bulk and size to effectively block in line and does not have the athleticism to adjust and maintain his blocks in space. Thomas has shown the ability to get through to the second level to seal block the linebacker inside on outside runs when he has a clear path, but when he has to chip a defensive lineman first, Thomas struggles to get to the second level in time. He is a smart and instinctive receiver that runs sharp routes, uses his body well against defenders and has the good hands to make tough catches consistently. He runs very aggressively after the catch and will lower a shoulder and deliver a blow to tackler -- consistently gains yards after contact. He is not an explosive player with a lack of burst off the ball and cannot get separation in routes. Thomas' lack of burst and speed makes him a good short-yardage receiving threat that lacks big-play ability. One added bonus is that Thomas has experience playing on special teams coverage units and has done a good job of making tackles. Overall, Thomas looks to be a backup tight end at best. He will contribute as a receiver on short and medium routes, in the red zone and as a special teams player, but he will never be a big-play threat as a receiver and will only be an adeqate blocker. In the end, Thomas will be a valuable backup tight end whose hands enable him to contribute as a receiver.

anybody care to speculate about this Rds 2 & 3 run on relatively under-the-radar WRs (Jennings/Hester/Travis Wilson/Brandon Williams) while so many better known names are still on the board?

cstu, do you think the Pack fans are happy with Thompson now? I gotta think they arent too happy other than AJ Hawk
I'd guess most fans don't know who these guys are but Hodge is comparable to Greenway and to get him in the 3rd is a steal. Jennings went a little higher than I thought he needed to go, but I considered him the SOD. Spitz isn't a big name but he's versatile (C or G) and has the ability to start this year. The fans should be ecstatic.

Boys are up and it will be K.Simpson or Watson. They need a safety for insurance and a DT. I am not happy with the TE either.

It's a very difficult class of WRs to grade. I think Hagan was a steal. I defended the Hester pick already. I wasn't impressed with Jennings, but his production speaks volumes. Jennings and Hagan were not surprising. Bloom has been pimping Wilson and he's no big surprise to me. Brandon Williams has had big fans all along, but it does seem early and like better prospects were there. It's really a case of what you like...

:lmao:
I think they could have gotten him tomorrow....He was ranked about the 10 TE overall...Strengths:

Has very good hands...Runs excellent routes...Will make the tough catch and the ability to adjust to poorly thrown balls...Pretty good natural athlete with fine quickness...Plays faster than he times and sported an impressive yards per catch average in college...Is a threat in the red zone and has a knack for catching touchdowns...Smart and knows how to get open...Has a lot of experience and good intangibles...Productive and was Vince Young's favorite target in Austin.

Weaknesses:

Does not have the size or bulk you look for...Lacks elite timed speed and won't stretch the field...Is not a great blocker...Needs to get much stronger...Has trouble beating the jam...Does not have a lot of upside...Skill set will not be a good fit for every team and he will need to be in the right system to succeed.

Notes:

Has the looks of an H-Back or pass catching specialist at the next level...In the right situation he could be a nice weapon in the short passing game but size and speed limitations will always hold him back and put boundaries around his role.

I wasn't surprised by Jennings and Williams, but I don't like the Hester and Willson picks. Hester has incredible upside and Wilson is a solid all-around receiver. I wouldn't call them bad picks but there were better options out there IMO.

new england took their yearly tight end :lmao:
I thought the same thing. At least they waited til the 3rd this year.
chaos you and I have been pretty much in agreement with most stuff on this draft, Dbrick is ok but I still would've rather gotten Mario. but Casserly was a fool and if he didn't want Bush He Should have moved down even if only for as little as a third.he's been a fool all along too...from the washington years and even when the Jets convinced him to take Aaron Glenn's and Marcus Coleman's bloated contracts. He's the Rich Kotite of NFL GM's

Jerry Angelo should call Marv Levy and thank him...because were it not for the Bills debacle the Bears would be having this year's worst draft in a big, big way :X

I think the Texans had a problem since their biggest interests were Bush and Mario and couldn't take the chance of NO taking Mario. They knew there would be a good OT in the 2nd so I think Bush forced their hand by asking for too much.

I don't like the Bills draft, but I still think they may have done better than the Bears. Close call though.

Hey, I really like Manning, I'm just a little confused about not having a TE at this point.

The Yobouty pick may give the Bils a slight edge over Chicago...but you can't be happy with the way this day has turned out I would imagine.

Frostee Rucker before Mark Anderson or Ray Edwards?
Absofreakinglutely.I'm flummoxed and fussy.

I was all excited to see Mark Anderson in a Bengal uniform.

Frostee Rucker? In the third? With the candlestick?

Guh.

Jason Hatcher DE big time under the radar prospect.
Oy. I don't know about Dallas. Parcells was too busy putting his staff together after Payton left and he left the scouting operation to JJ and his band of monkeys. Parcells was totally hands on last year and they rocked. He took his hands off this year and it really shows. I give them an F or a G.Hatcher is interesting, but he's not a need and they could have had him in the 5th or 6th.

Bears have drafted three guys I have never even heard of - the Bungalows at least got Youboty and Whitner (even if he was a total reach)...
