2007 DRAFT BLOOPERS (1 Viewer)

Insoxicated
Draft season is over... gametime is upon us.

Let's throw out some comical moments from our drafts this year. Not talking just about reaching a few rounds for a guy... I'm talking about true comedic blunders. What went down in your league drafts this year?

Here's my favorite moment:

16 Team League - $250 Buyin - Forced Rosters (3QB - Start 1)

One team kept Carson Palmer (2nd Round) but that's not the blunder.

In Round 5 they reach out and grab "McNabb". Everyone berates this guy for being an idiot and burning 2 of his first 5 picks on top QBs... but that still isn't the blunder.

Another fistful of rounds go by and they snag their 3rd QB... Josh McCown, to seal up the position. Nobody says anything until the guy walks back to his co-coach with a #### eating grin on his face... a grin that quickly turned to a  :goodposting: when someone yelled out "Thank God I've got you week 5"

Yep... that was the blunder.... all 3 QBs had the same bye week. :goodposting:

We had a few bye week SNAFUs too.

But the best part was when some guy was PO'd because players from his homer team were flying by and he wasn't bidding....turns out he didn't think he could; thought he was out of money but wasn't. God bless beer and its effects.

Round 5 in a standard scoring league...

"...I am going to go out on a limb here and take Reggie Bush"

My comment was...

"Is that limb made of a steel I-Beam?"

BTW, Reggie was taken in round 1.

14 team league is about halfway through a 19 round draft. this was a short while ago, and michael vick is still on the draft list. at this point in the draft, he's at the top of the site's projected list. in other words, the next person that has the computer auto select for them will get vick. everyone knows this is how the site works unless your players are preranked so we're all being as careful as we can to not run out of time and get stuck with him.

one friend of mine (i'll call him so-and-so) who is known for having random bad or annoying things happen to him (he missed last year's draft alltogether because he couldn't get java working correctly from his work cpu, and the other night he passed out in my garage drunk because the door to my basement was locked and he wouldn't call me even though i was right upstairs sleeping) is up for his 12th pick or so. after about half his pick time passes, we see the following four lines appear on the message board in about 1.5 seconds time.

"so-and-so has logged off"

"so-and-so drafts Michael Vick"

"so-and-so has logged on"

so-and-so says: DAMNIT #@$#@ WTF??!?!??!?!??!??!

of course i lost it and laughed histerically at him even though i sorta felt bad. he was on a wireless connection and i can only assume he lost it for a split second ...

I love this one. Best part is, he passed on Bush in 2, 3, and 4

Guy took MIKE NUGENT (K-NYJ) in the 7th round, after seeing him kick like 3 FG in an early preseason game.

Later someone said, "you just know during the season someone is going to finally lose a game to this guy and it will be because of Mike Nugent-- f'n Mike Nugent".

In my other $$ league, Bears defense in round 3 was interesting.... they were the #4 scorer overall last year in our format but still.... 3rd round on a defense?

Also, Devin HEster goes in rd10 before Santonio Holmes & Isaac Bruce. For some reason I thought people were sleeping on Holmes when he was still there early in rd10, so I grabbed Ladell Betts , thinking Holmes would be there in rd11.

had a $$ draft with some yuppies a couple weeks ago. had an first time owner whose a pats fan.. 7th pick, 10 teams, standard scoring

Round 1: Tom Brady

Round 2: Laurence Maroney

ROUND 3: WES WELKER

:banned: :hey:

12 team draft, guy (out of town) is 11th pick. He can't get connected. He calls me (I'm commish) right about the 9th pick to tell me he is having trouble. OK, so I run through who has been selected, wanting him to give me his next two picks and then he can work on getting connected. After I run through the picks, he asks (like he hasn't heard a word), so has LaDanian Tomlinson been picked? WTF!!! How can you draft 11th and asked that?

We had one dude, oddly enough one of the few that wasn't drinking, draft either 5 or 6 guys who'd already been taken. GB guys contributing $5 apiece to the week 1 pot.

Ask Wheelhouse and Construxboy about the "Ultimate Draft Plan". There'll be an article after this year when I win the championship. You ALWAYS draft better when under pressure. Like when driving 80 mph in heavy traffic on the highway towards Charlotte.

We have our traditional auction draft every year. The beer is flowing and the conversation is at a peak. Just before the draft starts the new guy walks into the room. Granted we have had the same ten people since 2000. The conversation stops and eyes begin glaring back and forth.

Then the auction starts and we don't hear a peep from the kid for a good forty five minutes. Meanwhile, each of us are thinking who is this kid waiting on? Most of the top notch RBS are gone and he hasn't even bid on a player yet.

Then Peyton Manning is thrown out and the bid starts at ...... before it is even voiced the new guy yells out fifty and is so excited he spills his drink all over the table. For those of you that know about auction drafts... paying 50 for Manning or any QB when you have a 200 limit is insane, especially for our scoring system ( 1 pt per 10 pass yards, 2 pts for pass TD's).

There was a long moment of silence and then the commissioner said going once, going twice... sold..... the newbie looked around puzzled and said that might have been the steal of the draft.

In that system last year, Manning scored 505 vs. 397 for QB10. Assuming you have normal RB scoring (maybe doubtful given your weird QB scoring), that's slightly more VBD than Gore or Parker last year.Point being, your scoring system places a greater weight on QB's than the normal scoring system, not lesser.

that's awesome that nobody said anything. you'll have to see if everyone can go the entire season without saying anything, or rather if he'll even clue in at all during the season.

Good eye.... I see my mistake.... I was going off of the scoring system for RBS and WRS.... for QBS it is one pt per 20 pass yds... sorry Ken

My other league is ruthless when it comes to blown picks. Some leagues you get a second cut. Not ours.

Keep 6 league. Small dynasty really. No draft pick bull, you pick em', just keep em'. 72 players kept every year.

End of first round, 1.11 of 12 teamer. Pick: Andre Johnson (start two Wr league and this guy ends up getting back Johnson from previous year, he was in the Super Bowl and had a Murderer's row squad).

1.12 - pick

2.1 -pick

GUY AT 3 SPOT LOOKS OVER AT GUY AT 2 SPOT'S CHEATSHEET AND SAYS, "Damn Al! I can tell now why you're always on ths side of the table! You don't even have Andre Johnson on your cheatsheet!"

(Al is 60, parties hard, and doesn't hear so well evidently as we would find out.)

2.2 - Al, "Andre Johnson."

Shockwave initially of disbelief goes through the table. Then uproarious laughter.

"Andre Johnson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I'm guessing Al didn't put Johnson on his sheet and thought he was one of 72 guys kept. Then he got confused somehow. Hell, I don't know. He also doesn't hear too well. If two people are talking at the same time he has trouble so he would later say.

Round 2 blown pick on a guy who had been picked 3 spots earlier. That's it, no second chance in our league. Round 2 pick = 0.

FUNNY HUH?

We get to about Round 7 and we take a break to eat the burgers and dogs we had the bar owner grilling outside for us.

Al starts a tirade. "I couldn't hear!!!!" Yada, yada, yada.

BLAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Starts kicking chairs in the bar and yelling. Goes on about 20 minutes or so until finally draft starts again.

Draft is over. I brought about 15-20 rookie football cards I've been looking to sell to the draft and let the guys take a look at them. You know, the Brady owner bought the Brady rookie, etc. Al is a Jamal Lewis owner and I'd shown him three Lewis rookie cards I had before the draft and he was thinking of buying one in particualr when we were done. He's still steamed. Not yelling incessantly but steamed. When the topic comes up he's back to yelling some. I just give him the Jamal Lewis card, "Here Al, this is for you." --- "Thanks Rhett." Ten minutes later I'm outside and here him yelling again, "I couldn't hear!!!!"

A day goes by. Message on league board addressed to everyone, " 'Make Love' to You All." Inside, "Team for sale. $55 or best offer."

STILL ANGRY -

GREAT STUFF, OUR LEAGUE.

P.S. "If you're in a little town named Kernersville right outside of Winston Salem, NC sometime soon, be careful about saying "Andre Johnson" outloud in public. :( ;)

You should try to go the whole season without anyone talking to him at all. The best leagues are the ones that completely ignore new players, right?

Someone drafted 2QBs in the first 4 rounds (we only start 1).

This is my work's "Bragging Rights" league (14 teams), so I guess I should have expected this something like this. However, I was still shocked by some of the things that happened:

- Drew Brees went #5 overall, ahead of P. Manning

- The guy who took Brees, then took McNabb in the 3rd round (we start 1 QB - TD's worth 3 points)

- Devin Hester went at pick 2.3, we all thought the guy screwed up his predraft list, but no... he was online

- The same guy that took Hester then took Berrian in the 4th, then proceeded to take Gould and Olsen in later rounds

- Adam Vinatieri went 3.1

- Bears defense went 3.7

- The same guy that drafted Bears defense took Baltimore defense at 5.7, he said he was worried about covering his bye week

:coffee:

Overall, I can't wait to beat up on these guys.

In our league an owner drafted G.Olsen in the 7th round (66th overall).....to make it worse he took Winslow in the 6th. You can start 2 TEs in our league, but his first 7 picks:

Westbrook, Manning, Lynch, R.Moss, Burress, Winslow, Olsen.....guess who I play week 1???

I was in an ESPN draft and someone couldn't make it, so they pre-ranked their players. The draft rolls around, and the autodraft winds up grabbing QBs with 4 of his first 5 picks (including Leftwich, who was already cut at the time). :bag:

This guy's whole draft...

now i'm sitting here with my wang in my hand wondering what happened, though. I look at my team and don't like it because i didn't think about drafting a team as much as i was so happy to get certain players in certain spot that i went with the Matt Millen "best player on the board" strategy.1.12 R Bush2.1 W McGahee3.12 TJ Housh4.1 A Gates5.12 Calvin Johnson6.1 Julius Jones7.12 Joey Galloway8.01 Fred Taylor9.12 Greg Jennings10.1 Warrick Dunn11.12 Brandon Jones12.1 Kevin Jones13.12 Chad Pennington14.1 Jerrious Norwood (keeper)15.12 Olinda Mare16.1 OAK D

Freinds and family League: No cash on the line.

10 Teamer.. standard PPR Scoring

Team Name : Foxboro Fabs (Obvious Patriots Fan)

He wasn't able to make the draft due to some last minute stuff so he pre-ranked his players. He clearly did something wrong because this is how his squad was drarfted:

Round by Round picks:

1.10 - Peyton Manning

2.1 - Antonio Gates

3.10 - Randy Moss

4.1 - Chicago D

5.10 - Adam Vinitieri

6.1 - Wes Welker

ANyone notice anything at this point? Yep.. no RB yet....

7.10 - Edgerrin James

8.1 - Thomas Jones

(not bad at all for having waited that long...)

9.10 - Mark Clayton

10.1 - Benjamin Watson (backup Tight End in Rd 10)

11 - Stephen Gostkowski (backup kicker in Rd 11)

12 - DeAngelo Williams

13 - Brandon Jones

14 - Chad Pennington (ouch)

15 - Eddie Kennison

I still gotta ask him what the hell he did to his pre rankings to have it not draft a RB till the 7th round.

16 team Yahoo league, 3 hour draft only to have Yahoo lose our picks and has scheduled a redraft at 2am EDT tomorrow. Funny haha? No, funny F-Yahoo

Held my big money draft in the private room of the restaurant I work at on a Sunday afternoon. I only know some of the owners vaguely, and some of them brought partners, so some faces were unknown to me.

As we were setting up for the draft, I went to the bathroom to answer nature's call. One of the other owners, I thought, was already in there, washing his hands. As I walked behind him, and reached for my belt buckle, I made eye contact with him in the mirror and said, "Man, I've been waiting for this day forever......"

Yeah, turns out he was just another customer, who must have thought he walked into a George Michael dream sequence. The poor guy was so spooked. He froze for a second, and ran out of the bathroom, with his hands still wet, and the water still running.

After I told the story to my leaguemates, I was bombarded with suggestions for new team names (The Idaho Senators, The Soap-Droppers).

Pick 2.07 in a 12-team league - Brett Farve.

Drafted by a GBP homer in the second round for the 4 year in a row.

10-Team League, 1 Keeper that costs you your first round pick... only 3 people kept. Guy who kept LT had the 10th pick, so he gets first pick in the 2nd... I was already depressed, thinking this guy is getting an even bigger advantage... he takes Drew Brees in the 2nd, Thomas Jones in the 3rd... I'm feeling much better about playing him now....

In the same league, the guy at 9 kept Carson Palmer, took Reggie Bush in the 2nd, Adrian Peterson 3rd, and then Bulger in the 4th. It's a start 1 QB league....

In my 12 team 3 keeper league... The #1 pick of course took LT, but then took Randy Moss at the end of the 2nd... His an old school Viking fan... I had to remind him Moss wasn't on the Vikings anymore.

This guys brother is a viking fan too... and had the 2nd pick... he took Jackson as expected, but then took Adrian Peterson in the 2nd, Deuce McAllister in the 3rd, Brandon Jackson in the 4th, and then Michael Pittman in the 5th... we were cracking up as this was the guy 2 years ago that decided he didn't need to draft RB's early, and went WR, WR, QB, WR, RB. Now he goes 5RBs... it's a start 2RB, 2WR, 1FLEX, but his choice of RB's was sad... and it also is PPR...

Brother in law calls me up to tell me about his team (first time going solo). Team consists of QB's: Rothlisberger and Campbell, RB's: Green, Bell, and Taylor, WR's: Cotchery, Berrian, Ward, TE: Smith, and Davis, Def's: Chicago, and San Diego. I think to myself not a bad draft for a first timer, but I would have thought he could have gotten one or two studs at RB and WR. Next thought was he must have been drafting from the fifth spot in non serpentine draft. Asked him who some FA were in order to build better depth. I found out that he was twelfth on the waivor wire, so I started wondering. I asked him where he drafted at and he said he had the first pick and took Chicago. Second round pick was San Diego. I have since advised him of the error of his ways, but I guess you have got to learn some time.

Getting geared up for our annual on-line draft in a long time league. Date is set for Sunday 8/26 9:00 PM EST. After seeing what others have kept (up to 3 player keeper forfieting a round per keeper) I know exactly what I'm going to do as I'm 99.9% sure of who will fall to me.

Getting all excited as the day of the draft arrives & am doing some last minute scouring of the news on the players I anticipate drafting.

Two hours to go & I can hardly wait....then the Hard Drive takes a crap. All of my contact info is on the computer so I've got no way to call anyone & nobody calls me.

A league mate does step up to the plate & drafts for me, but once I get a new Hard Drive installed & can get back on line, I see the draft unfolded almost exactly as I had predicted & every single player I had targetted was sitting there waiting for me to pluck them when it was my turn.

Unfortunately I wasn't there to do the plucking & through no fault of my league mate who did the emergency step in for me, I didn't end up with a single player that I wanted. :bag:

Needless to say, I've not only got a new Hard Drive, but after that fiasco, I've installed another external Hard Drive as back up.

12 Team $250.00 Buyin

And with pick #9 in the 1st round, L*******M takes "Tiki Barber".

2 folding chairs went down from laughter on that one.

Yes, another league-wide shot of petron was offered up immediately.

Draft was Sunday, 2 Sep.

- One guy forgets that it's draft day, shows up 1 hr late, then asks where the nearest store is so he can go buy a magazine

- His 14th round pick in our REDRAFT league... Kenny Irons!

We had a few bye week SNAFUs too.
I don't really even consider that a snafu. I don't even look at bye weeks unless it's later in the draft and I am having a real hard time deciding between 2 guys. I'd be more inclined to look at byes to help decide who will be taken by other owners, before it gets back to my pick, than who I will take. I'm not going to stray from my rankings because a guy will be available to me for 1 week when the alternative is someone I think will do better for the other 15-16 weeks.Besides, this is FF there are lots of roster changes made. I'll take the guys I think are better value, and make moves to deal with the byes, if I need to.

We expanded to 12 teams this year and added two new guys. One of the new guys did a great job...and he was a true newbie...never played before. The other has played for years and "knew what he was doing."

The "veteran" had the first pick of the draft....he drafted VINCE YOUNG in the third round...before Brady and Brees. Then in the 6th he took Robbie Gould and Balt in the 7th...the first defense off the board.

Live draft over the internet. Team selects Adrian Peterson CHI, instead of MIN. Once submitted, the deal is done. He came back to get the right AP with his next pick - but blew his second round pick to do so.

IDP league. Don't remember what round we're in, but it's pretty late (28 round draft). Guy selects ...

DB Darrent Williams DEN

I mention that the guy was killed, so he chooses another player.

A few rounds later, he announces his next selection ...

DB Darrent Williams DEN

In a keeper league I was looking to trade down in the first round and up in the second. I knew my guy would still be there late in the first but I wanted to get ahead of another owner in round 2 because I figure he's going for my second round guy. This should also snake a bunch of owners in round 1 who should have a good idea of who I wanted so when a RB goes off the board at my spot it will throw off their plan. Always good to start messin' with their heads early on draft day. Anyways I pull off the trade, wait until my pick to announce it (again I am trying to get in their heads), and my guy slide late to me as predicted. I even got the person I wanted in the second and sure enough it was the other owners plan to grab them with the second pick. Only problem is my original first round pick turns into "Anthony Thomas" . Such a beautifully orchestrated move and the knucklehead picked Anthony Thomas. Still worked for me but could have been much more effective.

12-team Redraft league, standard scoring.

Most of us didn't know each other and what ensued was one of the craziest things I've ever seen at a draft.

Guy comes in wearing a Reggie Bush jersey and talks about how he is a huge Saints fan. He goes on and on about how every Sunday he watches the Saints game and then spends the rest of the day watching ESPNews which is why he has no book or list of players :hifive: . He has the 5th pick and chooses Drew Brees. Very high to take him - before Manning - but I can live with that because he is a serious homer. 2nd pick, without any hesitation he blurts out "Baltimore Defense" as if he couldn't believe they fell. 3rd pick, Ahman Green. 4th pick roles around and again he blurts out "San Diego Defense!". I couldn't believe it. 2 DEF in the first 4 rounds. Rest of the draft he just calls out names...."Plaxico Burress! Oh wait, he's taken? Hines Ward!". It gets around to a later round (forget right now) and he says he's got a super sleeper. He is standing up just waiting for his pick to come. Finally it comes and he chooses....."Wide receiver on the Chicago Bears: Devin Hester!". It took all of my strength to not burst out laughing. He then goes on to say how Hester will make great trade bait. When told that he's just a KR playing some WR he tells us that as the Bears look at him more and see how dynamic he is, they will use him more on offense. Right.....

Altogether a very fun draft but this guy was just so funny because he thought he knew exactly what he was doing even though he had no clue.

16 team $$ league, live draft.

2nd year guy is on the clock at 1.9. He was horrible last year, but had been telling everyone he had been studying and would be greatly improved this season. He announces his 1st round selection: Chester Taylor

Lots of laughter as we thought he was kidding. More hysterical laughter when we realize he wasn't.

Keys and Benson will find this funny, since they were there too.

First year Dynasty, $100 entry, 10 team league, pretty standard starting lineup (1 QB .... plus a few flex). Anyway, a friend of mine who had never played FF stepped up sort of last minute for an owner who couldnt make it, paying entry fees and owning the team. He must not have read the rules very closely.

It's a $200 cap auction for 18 players. He procedes to buy Peyton Manning for $33 (not bad), Vince Young for $28 (!!??), and then to top it off Drew Brees for $20 (40% of his cap on QBs). Hilarity ensued every time another QB was nominated. He thought that everyone on your roster counted for your score and was wondering why no one was scooping up the top QBs, hence he tried to corner the market. He's trying to trade one now.

3 Keeper 14 Team league with scoring heavily favoring WR's - My keepers were Gore, Portis & Javon WalkerCalvin Johnson @ 4.13 is who I would've picked (gone the next round) / got Galloway instead - LaDell Betts (handcuff for Portis ~ one of my 3 keepers) @ 5.02 is who I would've picked (gone before my next pick) / got Bulger instead - Ronald Curry @ 6.13 is who I would've picked (gone 2 picks later) / got Shockey instead - Matt Hasselbeck @ 7.02 is who I would've picked (gone later that round) / got DeShaun Foster instead - Derrick Mason @ 8.13 is who I would've picked (gone in the 9th) / got Morency instead - Wes Welker @ 9.02 is who I would've picked (gone a couple of picks later) / got Vinatieri instead (a kicker in the 9th with 7 rounds yet to go  )....and so it goes.

Really wanted Calvin Johnson. Was dead set on drafting him if he feel to me. Figured even if he didn't light it up right out of the box, he would certainly help at some point this year & would be a definite keeper prospect for me.

Didn't like the QB pick @ 5.02 especially when that QB was Bulger. With SJax showing he is a monster, Holt's knee being iffy & their suspect D. Methinks St Louis will be an even more run oriented team this year, than what we saw last year. Feed the ball to SJax chewing up the clock & thereby keeping the opposing offense off the field to protect the suspect D.

Obviously I didn't discuss strategy with anyone in that league , so I can't complain about what my league mate did for me. Since he couldn't read my mind, I'm sure he did the best he could...well...except for drafting a kicker in the 9th

I actually drafted Kenny Irons in the last round of our draft thinking he might be a potential rookie keeper. I totally forgot he was already on IR.

This Guy in our league drafts Adrian Peterson in the first round and everyone snickers........

Then as the draft goes on he comments on someones pick "that guy has a really low ego rating."

Everyone looks puzzeled and someone finally asks him what the hell he is talking about.

We find out he is using the Madden 2008 player rankings as his cheatsheet!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh man, our money league this year was hilarious!

One guy drafted 3 tight ends, when you don't need ANY in this league! And those three were Shockey, Heath Miller, & Ben Watson. As a point of reference here, Crumpler went completely undrafted.

Another one brought his laptop with him, and said "hey, check out this awesome Youtube video", and it was Braylon Edwards catching passes blindfolded. Obviously, this being a Cleveland-area league, we immediately asked why he can't seem to do that with his eyes OPEN. =P Then in round 8 or 9 I believe, he thought about it and eventually took Braylon - so of course we all say it was because of the video. OK, not a bad pick at all or anything, but still funny.

Oh, but it gets a LOT better...

The fellow with the #1 pick takes Brady at the 2/3 turn, then thinks about what to do next and comes up with...THE BEARS SPECIAL TEAMS! Yes, we draft D and ST separately, and umm...wow.

The SAME GUY goes on to draft James Jones at the 6/7 turn, and Brady Quinn as his only backup QB.

And that may not even be the funniest part of it!

The guy at the other end, pick #12, started off great with Henry & Bush. But then, when it came to him for his next two picks, he spent a long time debating. He eventually got up, and selected - no, I'm not joking - Rivers & Romo! Then we all ragged on him to the point that within 5 minutes, he was backpedaling and saying how OBVIOUSLY he was going to trade one of them. =P I had to keep myself from laughing too loudly at the whole deal, it was seriously the worst thing I'd ever seen in this league.

He also reached insanely high for Rackers, and his WR3 is Anthony Gonzalez.

All in all, good times. =)

For those of you that know about auction drafts... paying 50 for Manning or any QB when you have a 200 limit is insane, especially for our scoring system ( 1 pt per 10 pass yards, 2 pts for pass TD's).There was a long moment of silence and then the commissioner said going once, going twice... sold..... the newbie looked around puzzled and said that might have been the steal of the draft.
Wow, what a bunch of a**holes.
