2007 DRAFT BLOOPERS (1 Viewer)

28-round league with 6 keepers per team (one from rounds 1-7, five from rounds 8-28) and NO WAIVER WIRE. One guy keeps 3 perfectly good QBs in the lower rounds and then uses his first round pick on... Peyton Manning.

He then passes out after round 21 -- he'd been doing shots most of the time. We make the rest of his picks for him. Yep, he got Michael Vick. We also forgot to give him a backup kicker, and there's no waiver wire. Oops. That's what you get for failure to stay conscious.

I have two one happened last year the other about 12 years ago.

Twelve years ago we were in a 12 team total points league based on the performance scoring. Back then there was still not a ton of info out there like to today. So in the 2nd rd guy drafts Mike Cofer K SF, and states he just got the highest scorer from last year. In the next round he drafts Tommy Kane who was going to play in the CFL. We have still not let this guy forget it.

Last year one drafter was a little drunk and in RD 7 took a kicker that was injured ( dont recall who it was), so in the next round he picks his second kicker. After the pick is on the board I yelled they both have the same bye week, the guys face was stunned. They didn't have the same bye week, but his look was priceless. Needless to say this guy finished as the worst team and lost our toilet bowl which means he picked number 2 in this years draft.

12 Team, keep 3--we submit our 3 keepers Aug 1 and drafted three weeks later. Guy keeps Drew Brees. His pick at 2.02? Donovan McNabb. Everyone laughs at him for wasting a pick when he already has a top QB. "I do? Oh, I forgot I retained Brees."

Also, guy drafts Gould to be his kicker early, two or three rounds before anyone else is even thinking kicker. Then he drafts the Iggles DST. Then he goes and drafts a second kicker.

"WTF you doin wasting your picks on kickers?" we ask.

"You guys are morons. Ever hear of bye weeks?" he starts. Now, we do have unlimited free waiver wire moves... but anyway, he continues, "This way, I can play Gould until he's on a bye, then play my backup kicker. Then I can drop that second kicker and pick up a DST for when they are on a bye. That way I don't have to drop a 'real player' to cover it."

:moneybag:

OK, first off, this guy wastes an early pick on Gould and another one on a defense, then picks a second kicker. Fantasy sins right there. But, he does so because he doesn't want to waste a draft pick on someone who might pan out later--Jacoby Jones, Leon Washington, a handcuff RB, whatever. Because he doesn't want to maybe have to drop them later. That's just stupid.

But then the blooper part--I explain to him that Philly's bye is in week 5 and Chicago's is in week 9. Therefore, he'll be needing that backup D before he needs to play his second kicker...

I was helping a buddy prep for his draft by customizing his ADP from his draft last year, when I noticed a trend - his boss - with the 1st pick (buddy had #3) was a Pittsburg homer. He also fills out each position with one player before drafting for depth. So as we were running through a Mock draft I kept making picks that were confounding my buddy:

1.1 LT

2.14 Hines Ward

3.1 Rothlisberger

.

.

6.14 Heath Miller (6th TE of the board)

7.01 PIT D - (4th D off the board)

Real draft:

2.14 Rothlisberger (4th QB off the board)

4.14 Heath Miller (4th TE of the board)

7.01 Pit D - (2nd D off the board)

Unbelievable...

Keys and Benson will find this funny, since they were there too. First year Dynasty, $100 entry, 10 team league, pretty standard starting lineup (1 QB .... plus a few flex). Anyway, a friend of mine who had never played FF stepped up sort of last minute for an owner who couldnt make it, paying entry fees and owning the team. He must not have read the rules very closely. It's a $200 cap auction for 18 players. He procedes to buy Peyton Manning for $33 (not bad), Vince Young for $28 (!!??), and then to top it off Drew Brees for $20 (40% of his cap on QBs). Hilarity ensued every time another QB was nominated. He thought that everyone on your roster counted for your score and was wondering why no one was scooping up the top QBs, hence he tried to corner the market. He's trying to trade one now.
:rolleyes:This was classic. Obviously, nobody wants to trade for them right now, or at all. He's going to have to trade Manning if he wants ANY value out of this.
