2007 RB's with over 250 touches (1 Viewer)

Free agency and the draft are over, and it appears as if the trend in the NFL is to have multiple RB's rotating during a game now. Here's a snippit I took from the ADP thread discussing the reasoning behind his selection by a Minnesota newspaper:

Six of the NFL's top 10 rushers last season missed the playoffs. Five of them were workhorse backs with at least 303 carries.Meanwhile, seven teams had two No. 1-caliber rushers that split time and had at least 155 carries apiece. Four of those teams -- Indianapolis, New England, Chicago and New Orleans -- reached the conference championship games. The Colts beat the Bears 29-17 in Super Bowl XLI on the strength of a combined 190 yards rushing from Dominic Rhodes and Joseph Addai.
Whether or not more teams take this approach is still to be determined, but the NFL traditionally has been a follow the leader type of league. That being said, here are the questions:How many RB's will have over 250 touches (carries + recepts) next year?More importantly, who are they?

Last year there were 26 guys that did it.

Off the top of my head in no order whatsoever . . .

McGahee

Rudi

Lewis

Henry

Green

Johnson

SJackson

Maroney

TJones

Benson

FWP

Tomlinson

Edge

Dunn

Foster

CTaylor

Westbrook

Gore

Alexander

Portis

Caddy

Portis

Lynch

That's my best guess for 2007 as of today.

Show us some data that shows it's a trend. So the RBBC teams did better. When push comes to shove, you need to win a game, you put your best guy out there. The number of 300 carry backs has stayed virtually the same over the last 6 years. I don't see this changing.

With the addition of Sears I expect Caddy to return to his rookie year form. Tampa is going to be pounding the rock. :goodposting: Our line will be big :drive:

Was RBBC the REASON these teams madethe final 4???Not really, Two teams have HOF calibre QBs. The other had a great D in a weak NFCThe other had a Great all around O in a weak NFC.

Depends on how you look at it. The Colts chose to invest their money in other positions and they let Edge go in lieu of a decent back-up and a rookie, so RBBC may actually have been a reason they were successful. The Saints took a polar opposite approach by using two elite RB's and they figured out a way to get both of them involved and exploit defenses.

The Bears had two first rounders running for them, and the Pats had a first rounder and 4 time pro-bowler sharing duties.

I'd say all four teams used RBBC to suit their team's system/strengths, and they were all successful doing it.

Were there other factors as to why those teams did well? Absolutely. However, the one thing they did have in common was RBBC.

The writer in the article pointed it out, and I found it interesting so I started the thread. Another way to look at it, how many teams have shifted to RBBC recently and how many have shifted to a feature RB?

I agree with the other guys as long as they stay healthy, but these guys seem far from a lock for 250+ to me.Thanks for replying though. Not sure how many had 250+ last year, either, but your list looks about right for the number of RB's to get 250+, probably in the low 20's...

Certainly not all of these are locks . . . but I posted who I thought would get that many. As of today, I think Dunn has one more year left although he may barely get to 250. Foster to me still seems like the majority ball carrier in CAR until he gets banged up and with his job on the line I think he might stick in the lineup more (and I HATE Foster). IMO, Lynch has the best shot of the guys on this short list. Taylor's chances hinge on how injured ADP is and whether he'll need surgery.

Why do you HATE Foster? The guy never gets into trouble, doesn't complain, nor does he have a attitude. He has no character issues. If you don't like his skills as a running back, that is one thing, but I don't know why anybody would hate him.

I have nothing against Foster as a person or a player, but I have never been a fan for fantasy purposes. Up until this year, the hype has far exceeded his actual production and he's gotten banged up every year he's been in the league. I think he's an average RB but many have been pimping him for years as the second coming.
