2008 Fantasy Season in review (1 Viewer)

I was just looking over final statistics for all of the positions and noticed a few things:

1) WR scoring was way, way down this year compared to last (and not just the #1 raning pts that Moss exploded with...I'm talking the top 10 to 20 WR's are all way down in points comparison as well.

2) RBs - more of an NFL trend, but there were alot of successful RB's that played in RBBC or 2 back split time format this year. More big backs and small speedsters have made alot more of a fantasy impact than in years past.

3) Except from a late season surge from Tony Gonzalez and Gates...in general TD scoring by TE's wasn't much this year. I guess instead of teams throwing play action TD passes as much to TE's inside the 5...they bashed it in with big RB's more this year. Just a guess and observation on a few teams.

First Round RBS were busts: LT, LJ, Addai, Barber, Lynch, MJD.....

No overwhelming QB scoring....I think this supports the strategy of waiting for a QB then possibly making a platoon. I don't think many QBs will be taken early next year

This season has once again proved that rookie running backs can be sucessful in their first year....Slaton, Jstew, Forte, KSmith (Would have been better if on a good team)....Dmacc was kind of a bust.

And two backs systems can be sucessful.......I would have no problem spending an early pick on JStewart next year for example.

I don't think the top ranked RB's were as much of a bust as in any other year, but I definitely agree with your analysis on the rookie RB's as Forte, Slaton and Chris Johnson we're all legit RB starters this season. Its been several years since a couple of rookie RB's did anything significant in fantasy. This year marked a return to the norm of years past when we could always count on at least 1-2 rookie RB's to be top 10 backs. We haven't really see that for several years as RB's were starting to follow more of the trend of WR's (i.e. taking several years to develop).

MJD was a bust?

 and what league would an owner draft LJ this season in the 1st round. I'll give benefit of the doubt as a type and he meant AP who should have gone as a top RB overall this year (who wasn't a bust either).

Thought I'd resurrect this thread, since we are going into the 2009 fantasy season. Might help on some draft strategy insights if 2009 follows some fantasy trends from 2008 season.
